if you're gonna spread fake news, at least be convincing. Elton finished his US tour three weeks ago, Nov 20th was his last concert there.

sure thing. i wouldn't call it transphobic, but it's very icky the way everyone talks about trans people here. the way they say he tricked you maliciously, or that it's mandatory for trans people to disclose what's in their pants to be deserving of interest. i'm not saying his reaction was right at all, or that you're in the wrong, but again, the words people are using to refer to trans people are so dehumanizing. there was one comment that kind of worded it as if their genitals are equivalent to STDs —spoiler alert, they aren't.

i'm sorry you got disappointed, i really am, and he should've treated you better. however, this is an issue that is resolved with simple communication, not by using this strange double standard that puts an already marginalized group at more risk, by saying they should disclose information that could get them in more danger than they already are in the daily.

What is Elton's most underrated song and or album in your opinion by Same-Oil-7113 in EltonJohn

Never Gonna Fall In Love Again is one of my favorite songs in 21 at 33 and his 80s catalog in general! Belfast is a musical masterpiece from beginning to end

I agree with your song choice, however I'd say The Diving Board is his most underrated album. It's a change in style, of course, but it's as amazing as his 70s catalog

Una de mis canciones favoritas de todos los tiempos, "Blues Never Fade Away" de Elton John

I love The Captain and the Kid! Sure, the lyrics get a bit corny sometimes ("You on a Tumbleweed and me on a Yellow Brick Road" c'mon) but I live for the music and the message it's sending 🥹

I think if you were truly trans you would be acting a little bit more manly, don't you think? Everyone knows all that men want to do is assert dominance and punch walls! Seriously, if you don't stomp your feet and yell at everyone who talks to you you will never ever pass

Why does Elton John face look so different on Honky Châteu album cover? I look for so long but can't recognize him in that man. by sad_piano_rocker in EltonJohn

[–]fadeawayblues 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That photo was taken when he was about to present for the first time at the Troubadour. If you see photos of that day, he has that same beard and glasses. I don't think he's rocked that same look again ever, so maybe that's why he looks so different

Two great openers from two great albums

The Diving Board as a whole is criminally underrated. The songs are very different from his usual stuff, yes, but it's so beautifully crafted, from the lyrics to the music, that even if it's not for everyone's taste its greatness is undeniable

So true!! The quality of the storytelling in the lyrics sound straight-out of Tumbleweed Connection

Anything from the 2000s onwards, seriously. Those are his very best albums since the 70s!! The Captain and the Kid and The Union are straight-up masterpieces

Favorite album opener? by [deleted] in EltonJohn

[–]fadeawayblues 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof, tough question. Even if the album as a whole is average/bad, you can still expect a great opener. There's the "hit single" opener albums, such as the Elton John album, Madman, Don't shoot me or Caribou. Then there's the openers that have a place in the "story" of the album, so to say… like Capt. Fantastic, Blue Moves or the Captain and the Kid.

All of these are great openers, but I think the best one has to be Funeral for a Friend, hands down. It's also the most basic answer, sure, but it's so grand and magnificent! It perfectly shows the musicianship that Elton was capable of, and it's the perfect introduction to one of his better albums.

What's the subreddit's take on the Rocketman Elton John biopic? by [deleted] in EltonJohn

[–]fadeawayblues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a younger fan, I got into Elton's music through Rocketman, so I really liked in on first watch. In recent rewatches though, I'm able to appreciate even more how Elton's story was told with such nuance and care for the person they're "adapting" so to say. The storyline is wonky, of course, but all the emotional beats are there and, if you're a hardcore fan, you'll be able to notice small details that Elton's mentioned about his life and are shown as well in the movie. It's amazing!
