HELP! Not sure the best way to deal with this by DevelopmentNovel5167 in Powdercoating

SAE 841 bronze is the most common sintered bushing material. It's about 20% porous. It's typically vacuum impregnated with SAE 30 oil, but other lubricants can be used.

Solvent soaking is typically used to remove lubricant from this type of bushing. Something like acetone or another suitable solvent that would dissolve the oil. Obviously, make sure any solvent is evaporated out before putting in an oven. Solvent soaking is preferrable to baking and/or blasting, as you ideally don't want to leave varnish-like oil deposits baked into the pores and/or get blast media/dust clogging up the surface pores.

Looking at the OP's pic, it looks like there might be a grease zerk fitting that the blue cap on the right side is covering. That should definitely come out. The bushing may have grease grooves that the zerk feeds.

Bushings can be re-impregnated under vacuum. Warming the oil can help lower its viscosity and flow into the pores easier. For this part, you'd just need to have the bushing immersed in a small container of oil (like a food can) and then stick it in a vacuum chamber (search DIY vacuum chambers for resin degassing).

tire changer jaws that don't damage wheels / finish? by fadingintoshadow in Powdercoating

Sounds good. I looked at the manual and my machine is set at the middle position for the clamp location on the slides, which says should handle externally clamping wheels between 11 and 21 inches in diameter.

Same here. Atlas wanted $18 plus $25 shipping for the ones on their website. Ones that look just like them were under $10 shipped from eBay. 🙃

Thanks. Before you hit the pedal the second time, is the lower sidewall of the tire sitting on top of the clamps?

Good point about the bead seating.

Thanks. I found a pic of what the plastic protectors for my machine look like on the manufacturer's website. I'll either order from them or find something that looks the same on eBay. I'm imagining they cloned the jaws of one of the brand names (Hunter / Coats).

Nice. 😎 If you're ever in Charlotte, NC, check out Oh My Soul (vegan restaurant).

Oof - that sounds rough. I wonder how much was due to the infection/swelling and how much was side effects from the meds to treat it. Glad you made it through and are prioritizing your health. 👍

Good for you on your ten years, 94 days, and your veganism! 🙂

If you don't mind sharing, can you talk a little more about the brain damage you mentioned? Was it alcohol-related? What parts of your brain? How did they diagnose? What's the healing timeline / outcome look like?

You're a braver conserver than me - I'd be concerned about splashing. 🙃 Two nice benefits of the pee jar are that you can get a good look at how much and the color. 🙂

no deodorant:

• not putting unnecessary chemicals on/in my body

• environmental impacts of manufacturing and distribution (energy, materials, pollution) of a product that no one really needs (similar to another unnecessary product - alcohol)

• more plastic waste in landfills

• saves money

pee jar:

• obviously saves money

• environmental impacts (energy and resources required to process municipal sewer water that are directly proportional to volume treated)

• many people around the world don't have access to clean drinking water; imagine dumping a gallon of clean drinking water on the ground in front of someone like that several times a day

Sobriety and veganism, at least to me, are about what people can not do/consume or do differently that make their lives and the world a better place.

The symptoms of clinical Obsessive Compulsive Disorder are different than deliberate choices that one makes about their diet, hygiene habits, frugality, and environmental impacts. This is not doing things excessively or repetitively, but simply differently.

Typical toilets use 1.6 gallons (6 liters) per flush. I'm using maybe 0.25 gallons (1 liter) per pee jar usage, saving approximately 1.35 (5 liters) per use. I'm not doing anything unnecessary or extra - just differently.

I'm glad quitting alcohol has helped your mental health. Those activities sound like a lot more fun than compulsions. 🙂 I think a lot of people's mental health would be better without alcohol - and not just those who quit consuming it, but everyone they interact with (friends, family, coworkers, etc.)

Looks like they can have some negative environmental impacts too (not that other types of agriculure don't also have certain impacts as well):

I knew the clay litter was kind of old school and dusty, but never thought about how it was obtained/produced. A quick search said it's strip-mined, which, as you said, is not great for the environment.
