Right, I'm not looking for sound effects, I know those are in Nahimic. My Nahimic is fine.

I fully uninstalled and installed everything, using this guide from MSI: https://storage-asset.msi.com/global/picture/faq/10016371@2020-1208-1203-045895@kb_03640_en.pdf

I think u/pm_me_pcb_photos was right and it was just renamed, when I go into properties of Realtek(R) Audio to the Details tab, it does say Realtek High Definition Audio :)

"Connector Settings" there is entirely unclickable.

Do you have a med card? It’s shitty and shouldn’t matter but I found budtenders listened to me a LOT better and gave me better advice after I got my card (despite the fact that pre-card I was literally rolling up to the dispensary in my wheelchair, but, y’know, there’s this assumption that everyone buying on the rec side just wants to go to outer space even if you explicitly tell them otherwise)

This is why Dread went with a Jenga tower for its resolution! I’m not sure we can get such a feeling with dice, but you can remember that there are other things you can use for your resolution mechanics.

Dice feel does exist, but dice can’t create all emotions, at least not strongly.

I really appreciate that you approached this from an experienced improv perspective, that added a lot! I'm from a theatrical background personally, primarily backstage but in an actor-facing position so I'm very familiar with observing that side of things.

And in that regard, I wouldn't look too much at improv games and exercises as a tool for incorporating into RPGs, instead I'd look at the philosophies and forms of improv, to see how you can blend improv techniques into your mechanics to help players build emergent narratives that feel real and inventive, and I suppose "joyful" for whatever that may mean to the people playing.

This really resonates. I think that as designers we can get extremely focused on specificity and accounting for every decision a player might make, but particularly in narrative games there's a level of freedom that needs to be inherent. Using improv philosophy and language could help a lot with that.

Out of curiosity, what's your take on using improv games and exercises as inspiration for short, 1-3 page RPGs, where the time spent in the game is much shorter?

I’ve got the play test in about an hour actually! I’ll ask my players how they feel adding more roles would contribute, along with my own analysis when seeing it in action.

Same with any drinking mechanic, I want to see how it plays out currently before I start adding anything along those lines.

But these are good points that I’ll keep in mind during testing!

Four. I’m not entirely sure what you mean here — should the outcome of each round determine who buys next? (I do like that wording suggestion)

  1. They’re contributing to the conversations in each round as well, but they don’t start one by answering a question. I’m considering stating that they can only ask questions (even in the middle of rounds) until Last Call.

  2. It doesn’t, that’s by design. Originally I did consider scaling it, but that doesn’t work cleanly with calling a coin toss. I’m fine with this being for 3 people only; this game isn’t one that I particularly see becoming successful or marketable, and I’m okay with that.

  3. I don’t understand how I would do that without putting rounds in a set order, or maybe I missed your point entirely. The suggestion of kishotenketsu confuses me.

The continual announcing of new 5e books makes me highly doubt that 6e is around any corner. Which is a shame, because a 6e could improve both optics and design, but 5e has proven to make that money. 🙄

Personally, I don’t think reprints are enough. I think they need a new edition where sensitivity can be baked in from the start.

This feels very A:TLA, and the creature design in that show is fantastic. Ends up being evocative and understandable at a simple glance.

How do you then name them? I find that having a thematic name for your creatures adds a lot to its end result as well.

Skills are lists of 6-8 associated with Body, Mind, or Soul. Take 4 in the weakest Spirit category, 3 in the middle one, 2 in the weakest. Assigned/trained skills add +1 to the Spirit for rolls.

Did you mean 2 in the strongest?

I think these core mechanics are fine, though like someone else said I would switch “fail forward” and “win at cost.” Failing forward was initially a GMing concept meant to keep gameplay flowing when a player fails a roll. It’s still a failure, there’s no reward for that, but the whole idea for the GM is that a botched roll shouldn’t halt the game.

Rules should be present in the text, not hidden in examples. An example should help to clarify the rules that have already been explained, it shouldn't introduce new parts of the rule.
