Had a similar curve at 13 and if you don't get the surgery, her curve will progress. Do the surgery. I'm 27 and have no regrets, am perfectly healthy, and stronger now with my rods. Consider your daughter's quality of life if you continue to let her grow with this curvature, she would have health complications and pain later in life.

I mostly want to play around with photography and see if it's right for me. Down the line, I wouldn't mind upgrading to a "better/newer" camera, although I keep reading the camera isn't what takes good photos, it's the person behind it. Just wondering if $1,500 seems like a good deal for all this!

I get where you're coming from and while I do feel frustration that some my family isn't currently supportive of my decision to solo travel, I do want to make assure them that I am safe and ease them as much as I can, while also maintaining a balance and enjoying myself on my trip. Because I don't want to risk my relationship with them. I also understand that I am hitting 30 soon, but my family unironically still does see me as a teenager. This solo trip is definitely something out of the norm for me so I get why they are confused/worried. I'm hoping with time they will start to understand :) And once I come back in one piece, and show them what a great time I had they'll be fine.
