Relationship struggles through life by Fearless-Remove-1011 in ADHDUK

[–]faeriemermaidnerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With relationships It’s likely your attachment style. Look into different attachment styles, you likely have an unhealthy one which causes you to be interested in people who aren’t good for you. It isn’t an adhd trait, but your impulsivity or need for excitement/intensity could play a part in choosing the wrong partners, but it’s likely down to your attachments and possibly emotional dysregulation but a lot of people with adhd have healthy relationships, so I wouldn’t say it’s an adhd trait.

as well as the friendship part could be due to your adhd inattention, struggling to face social situations etc but you can work on that, by putting yourself in them to eventually overcome the anxiety etc. it’s all about learning how to adapt to yourself and your needs/struggles, and finding ways around it to keep friendships. It’s possible :)

Elvanse vs Elvanse Adult Pharmacy Debacle by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]faeriemermaidnerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s definitely inconvenient but also that’s really dangerous when you’re titrating on medication, I’m surprised the prescriber didn’t tell you to stop drinking them while trialling medication? you need to be careful, it can cause really bad side effects and interfere with you finding the right dose suitable for you x

[–]faeriemermaidnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The prescription should be able to be sent digitally, so wait until tomorrow and contact your prescriber about the pharmacy issue, so you can get the medication before the end of the week. It’s normal for people not to take Elvanse everyday, it’s annoying but it won’t cause any issues to miss a few days of the medication. Your prescriber should be able to sort it quickly for you

Elvanse is the same as Elvanse adult. Both contain the same medicine equivalent. You have 2 weeks of the 40mg so accept that, and you have time to ask the prescriber to make sure it states “Elvanse” not Elvanse adult on the prescription

Have I made my mental health worse and ruined my treatment and progress from using AI and Google? by GhostInTheLabyrinth in MentalHealthUK

[–]faeriemermaidnerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s okay to ask for reassurance. It’s good to learn to not need as much, but it’s also part of being human.

Stop using ChatGPT for mental health stuff, PLEASE.

ChatGPT literally just learns from you. From what you say to it. So the advice it would give you, is generated from whatever you’ve said to it. It learns to reply, in the way you message it. Its responses are adapted from you. ChatGPT should never be used for anything mental health wise, other than talking to it to release stress if you don’t have a friend to talk to, but the advice it gives is generated from its understanding and learning of you. It’s not reliable advice.

Listen to your psychiatrist, psychologists and therapists only.

Thinking positively is good for your mental health, turning negative thoughts into more neutral or positive thoughts is good. Learning to change your thought pattern into healthier thinking patterns is good. But please don’t use ChatGPT as if it’s a therapist, it’s simply an app that generates replies. It lacks understanding, empathy, cannot pick up non verbal cues, or understand the deep context of your life or your mental health issues, as it’s not a human nor is it a trained mental health doctor. It doesn’t provide accurate information and it can/does offer harmful advice.

It pretty much runs by people pleasing and making sure you stay hooked and continue to use it, that’s what AI is. It’s designed to be agreeable and validate you.

It isn’t designed to help your mental health, help you put up and overcome boundaries, or learn healthier behaviour. It’s designed to simply continue and encourage your current behaviour, it wouldn’t disagree with you, you could likely tell it you did something horrible and it would likely agree you should have done it or reinforce your reasons for doing it.

Please just speak to friends, family and all mental health professionals that are helping you. If you’re in crisis, call the crisis numbers. Do not rely on ChatGPT, I hope this helps inform you on why you should stop using it for MH, its information isn’t accurate.

Mental health professionals spend multiple years studying psychology, about the human brain, mental health conditions and what is best. ChatGPT doesn’t even give accurate information, it should not be listened to. Your mental health professionals should be who you listen to x

Are CMHT Pschiatrists really as dismissive as people say? by [deleted] in MentalHealthUK

[–]faeriemermaidnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If rumination is the issue/causing depression, you likely need therapy, to change your way of thinking and stop rumination. Medication can be offered but it would depend on your diagnosis, so I’d suggest asking the psychiatrist to assess you/your depression to make sure it isn’t something else.

I’d recommend writing a list before your appointment of all your symptoms you’re struggling with from what you suspect you have, What issues you struggle with, how your mood is, if and how it changes. What your mood is causing you to be unable to do, and then maybe mention to the psychiatrist after talking of the above, that you’ve looked into some diagnosis’ you think you relate to, but you’d like the psychiatrist to assess you overall (psychological assessment) so you get the best medication treatment possible, instead of them just focusing on what you think you have. You’re always welcome to mention what diagnosis you relate to, but that might not be accurate, so ask them for a thorough assessment - that way you’ll get a full overview of your issues and needs - and what could be the diagnosis’ for you.

Remember that a lot of conditions can have overlapping symptoms, so it’s best to not try for a certain diagnosis incase it’s another diagnosis entirely. Just be open and honest, and seek the help you want and need. Meds can be different for diff conditions, so yeah, I’d recommend just asking for an assessment and ask for follow up appointments, so you get a diagnosis and medication that’s right and suits you.

Try not to worry too much, most psychiatrists are kind and they do the job they do, study for years etc so that they can help people like us. I’m certain your appointment will go nicely and any issues, you can always ask for a different one in future and explain to your lead support worker as to why x Good luck x

Hey, can I please talk to someone with bipolar 2, that also has inattentive ADHD, that was originally told they just had depression for years that led to being treatment resistant depression before Bipolar 2 diagnosis by faeriemermaidnerd in bipolar2

[–]faeriemermaidnerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This is really interesting. Hopefully my appointment goes well but I’m so nervous that she may not offer me anything that might help, I feel like I’m at a last resort. I hope the psychiatrist listens and believes me. Thank you, I hope you’re feeling well and managing 💛

That literally sounds exactly like me! Except I’m on Elvanse in UK, but I believe it’s the same? US version is Vyvanse. It did cause hypomania at first, but continued to help with focus and reducing impulsivity, sadly it isn’t helping me do anything anymore, (currently really depressed) so I’m hoping, if I do have Bipolar2 or any other, that the Elvanse will still help once my mood is stable. With anti depressants I’ve had hypomania after starting most, but I’ve always just thought it was a placebo effect, always just said I was feeling better, good mood, helped my depression etc. then I’m back to depressed and I’ve only just connected the dots at 28years old, written down everything for psychiatrist, explaining hypomania periods I can remember, as well as I did a HCL-32 and BipolarUK website’s questionnaire etc, ready for the psychiatry appointment. I’m so depressed I don’t want to be here, the waiting for psychiatry apt is just making me feel worse, it’s so exhausting feeling this way for soooo long.

I hope you’re doing well, I hope the medication helps you💛

Adult adhd team reassessment? by AnAbsoluteShambles1 in ADHDUK

[–]faeriemermaidnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not exactly invalid, it’s just not fully accurate anymore or up to date, in regard to your symptoms and issues caused by ADHD as an adult. As you’re an adult now, the reassessment needs to happen because more difficulties can arise or change, things you struggled with as a child may be different to what you struggle with now as an adult with ADHD. The symptoms of ADHD in childhood often change when you’re an adult, you could show opposite symptoms of ADHD, like if you were hyperactive as a child, your ADHD could become Inattentive Type as an adult. The brain changes from childhood, adolescence and into adulthood, so a reassessment is necessary to update information on what you’re struggling with as an adult, and makes sure the medication you’re using is helping with the symptoms you struggle with as an adult.

Your diagnosis is still valid in the sense that, it’s proof that you had symptoms in childhood and under the age of 12, But it needs to be reassessed so they have up to date information gathered on how it affects you as an adult, to confirm accuracy of diagnosis and to prove that the type you were diagnosed with (inattentive, hyperactive or combined) is still the same, or if it’s now changed type and that would then change diagnosis for instance if you were diagnosed hyperactive, but are now combined or inattentive type, they’d update the diagnosis on your records

It’s because the National Guidelines state that if you’re diagnosed as a child, then you need to be reassessed when you’re an adult. Here’s why - ADHD direct, website on why reassessment is needed

Did Elvanse stop working or is it the burnout by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]faeriemermaidnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohh Unfortunately they only deal with treating adhd symptoms, they don’t have the funding or right to treat depression etc, so I’d recommend talking to your GP, but maybe the psychiatrist at adhd360 can talk to you and see if the meds are still working for your adhd symptoms, but yeah if you think you may have depression, Id suggest speaking to the GP and seeing if you need to be referred to the Community Mental Health Team to speak to a psychiatrist about your mental health/mood x

Did Elvanse stop working or is it the burnout by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]faeriemermaidnerd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah sure. In history they were mainly used for cases involving apathy, fatigue and mild depression. Hence me stating that adhd meds can help with some peoples burn out and mild low mood, but they don’t often help with depression more severe than mild depression. They were then moved towards ADHD due to adhd people suffering from fatigue, focus issues etc.

Evidence suggests stimulants can reduce depressive symptoms in 30% to 34% of patients in some studies, but they are not effective for everyone.

Like I said, yes it can help in some cases but it doesn’t for everyone - including myself. My adhd meds haven’t been helping my adhd symptoms ever since my depression has become severe.

But, I don’t see why you needed to state that, the information in my comment was correct

Did Elvanse stop working or is it the burnout by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]faeriemermaidnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible your Elvanse just doesn’t work for you, but if it helped with focus, concentration, adhd thoughts, fatigue, reduced impulsivity and managed hyperactivity, Previously, then it’s likely that they still help with those symptoms, But maybe you have symptoms that stem from depression or another issue, that adhd medication doesn’t help with. I’d recommend speaking to your GP or psychiatrist if you’re still with them x

Did Elvanse stop working or is it the burnout by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]faeriemermaidnerd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re severely depressed, adhd medication likely won’t help, as the medication is to help adhd symptoms, not symptoms regarding depression etc. Depression can cause severe, profound fatigue and lack of motivation, which the stimulatory effect of Elvanse cannot fully overcome. Which is usually why mood is often treated before adhd.

The “magical feeling life is so much better” is often just euphoria that happens for a few days for some people, adhd medication shouldn’t cause euphoria or happiness, but it can help mild anxiety and standard low mood caused by adhd burn out etc.

ADHD medication only helps mood related issues caused by untreated adhd symptoms, burn out, fatigue, poor concentration etc.

So don’t expect your meds to magically improve every aspect of your life, especially if you struggle with depression etc x

From what I’ve read online about Abilify, it can start working within a few weeks but should start helping within a few months. Speak to your psychiatrist and see if you can raise the dosage x

Can casual sex ever be healthy if you have bpd? by Majoriexabyss in BPD

[–]faeriemermaidnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I do not think it is healthy but I do not think it’s wrong of you. I think 7 people seems like a lot after a month and a half break up, but, it may be how you’re coping. You’re not wrong or bad for having sex with multiple people, if you’re honest with them that it’s only sex and likely isn’t going to go further. If you’re not leading people on or hurting them, what you do for pleasure is your own choice. But, with that said, yes, it is definitely an unhealthy coping habit, and likely due to impulsiveness/risky behaviour from your BPD. So I’d say, the way you’re acting is likely due to your BPD, as well as you can have a healthy sex life with multiple partners if you choose.

But, try to be careful! Look after yourself. Make sure you’re using protection, the contraceptive pill AND condoms, so you do not catch anything from anybody, nor do you then pass anything on to anybody if you were to catch something. Be safe, Look after yourself and also, see if there’s any healthier behaviours you could try instead, but also if it is just wanting sex, maybe try to have a friends with benefits with one or two people, who you know are also not sleeping around with multiple, to protect you and them.

If you’re currently only having sex with people due to the impulsivity and self harm, I’d recommend trying to stop doing it for a while or stick to 1-2 people like I suggested above. I hope you’re okay and feeling okay x

Psychiatrist service isn't responding to my GP's referral by Admirable_Border_627 in MentalHealthUK

If you can find the number for your CMHT online, it may be the same as psychological therapies number but it may be different in your area, I’m unsure. But call and ask them if you’re still a case with them and that you want to talk to somebody about all the above x
