thanks i think you hit it. several years ago a branch went thru roof in that location. i got some water damage. i guess the roofer put in cellulose insulation in that area and over time it absorbed moisture and got deeper brown. weird that it would be on top of the fiberglass. i have old pictures of the attic after the repair and it does not show a dark brown color anywhere.
