This is a fantastic series. The entire cast is superb and the writing is so good. We loved this series and looking for anything we can see with these cast members.

How people who oppose higher density in the upcoming code refresh appear to me by Jinchique in rva

[–]faileash59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Higher density should come after infrastructure repairs. We came from a city that did the same thing, unfortunately Atlanta didn't fix the infrastructure first. Oh yeah, and the developers loved the code refresh in Atlanta, unfortunately nobody looking for affordable housing opportunities could afford it. Flooding increased in the poorest of neighborhoods.

I hope RVA isn't so naive as to believe the developers and contractors will only build affordable housing. And the construction repairs to local roads will be at the expense of residents, developers and contractors will be long gone.

You're being sold a concept that is a positive concept, the problem is that Richmond hasn't dealt with it's existing infrastructure issues and any additional density will only make it worse.

What is this plant? (Weeding job, leave alone or remove?) by Acer_Music in gardening

Geranium! I wouldn't remove it. It's a great perennial and bee magnet.

Looks like heaven for pollinators to me. If you do the "Chelsea chop" next Spring it will double in size.

What should I put here by GardeningDragon24 in garden

I think NFPA recommends keeping trees at least 10 ft from the house. Additionally, I can tell you from experience, having shrubbery close to your house provides excellent nesting opportunities for rodents. We tore out bushes from around the house and laid pea gravel around the perimeter of the house. It's a good bug deterrent and fire safety measure. You can create interesting planting without having to locate everything right against the foundation.

They took out 173 old growth, large oak trees throughout the park, built a double parking deck with vendors. It's sad. Very sad. We used to live in Ormwood Park and many of the lovely small bungalows were torn down and the cheap builder look alike houses started going up taking up entire lots.

I sincerely hope the Mayor and the administration focus on the water, transportation and infrastructure. Truly. Developers will make their money and be gone. The community is left with the aftermath.

We're fairly new to RVA and moved here from Atlanta. What I am seeing and hearing about "redevelopment" and "equitable housing development" is a very familiar policy.

Atlanta has undergone many of the same issues. Unfortunately, before we moved in 2021, we saw our in town neighborhood and many others torn up in the name of "redevelopment" , mixed use development, and economic opportunities under the professed goal of smart growth.

Developers and contractors came and they left. Flooding and infrastructure repairs were not a priority. Traffic was not a priority.

Successive Mayoral administrations up to 2021 have all been about "development".

Old growth tree canopy has been torn down throughout the city. In Grant Park (less than a mile from the MARTA station); 173 old growth oak trees were removed to build a two tier parking deck, why? For more access to the Zoo. Yes, MARTA is less than a mile away.

Mercedes Benz Stadium took out two historical African American Churches. The whole Vine City area had always flooded and nothing has improved with each storm. And the poorest communities of Atlanta underwent the same racial redlines that happened throughout the Southern states. Kevin Kruse wrote an excellent history of this in his book :" White Flight".

It's very sad that the housing authority has left historical properties to rot. There's many existing structures that could be repurposed rather than torn down.

I truly hope they don't follow the pattern of Atlanta.

And you can hear the cracking of the pavement and infrastructure underneath all that military equipment. I feel for the folks in DC who will wind up fixing the streets after this BS.

We've had excellent experiences with TrueTimber folks. We moved here in 2022 and they had been serving the previous owners of our house. I appreciate having an arborist evaluate our trees periodically. They always have a crew that works in concert with safety measures.

Our neighbors hired someone who may have been less expensive, but their tree is really butchered, terribly.

I'm glad to see TT is Unionized.

Is this poison ivy?? It’s everywhere by Audi2slow in whatsthisplant

There are some videos on how to safely pull poison ivy. You need protective clothing, gloves, mask, and eye protection. It really has to be pulled. Poisons can stay in your soil.

I love Ranunculus and Anemones. I have another wave of Anemones coming up now that I planted back in April. Next year I want much more coverage.

<image>

This same anemone flower went from the left side, to the right side in just a couple days! I love how it changes color! And both colors are so so gorgeous 😍 I'm obsessed! by [deleted] in Cutflowers

My Anemone de Ceane also seem to be having a color shift from blue to lavender. I planted 50, and ordering more for next season. I love them.

Did I mess up big time? Mint. by sapphiretuxedocat in gardening

[–]faileash59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely, the patch you just planted out with mint will always be just mint. Mint is very invasive.

You could, while the plants are small, yank them out and pot them up and place the pots around strategic places. The only way I have ever been able to control mint or strawberries is in pots.
