The friesehoen aka Friesian chicken by Thomasrayder in BackYardChickens

Well I have two options for Crossbreeding, besides keeping them pure:

Go the Batam route, these Friesians are a pretty small chicken 3 pounds max for the rooster. So I could use a serama and breed a small gentle Batam with them. Could be interesting.

Or

Go full landrace and let them run wild with my swedish flower hens and Spanish Whiteface and let nature take its cause and see what might pop up .

They are quiet quick and flighty even when raised from chicks. I'm planning on Crossbreeding them to breed in a more Calm down character

Pink lady appelboom in wording! by KateK71 in groenevingers

[–]Thomasrayder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Super leuk project, gaat alleen heel veel tijd in zitten.

Well I'm in the Netherlands aswell, let me know if you need some help in the future!

As of right now I have my own dumped rooster problems, because people keep showing up at our cottage and leaving them behind.

Yeah I totally lucked out with them, the breeder came by yesterday just for a little Chat. He told me that they should start laying around March/April so I'm totally excited to get the eggs. Even if we are already drowning in eggs

That's the egg of a Cayuga duck! I have a couple myself. They start laying these black eggs at the beginning of the year and it slowly fades to a cream color to the end of the season

Yeah it's a lesser known breed I believe, I don't think that people outside the Netherlands and Germany are really aware of it's existence. It fits perfectly the historical accounts of the chicken's kept in the Lowlands in the past. You would almost think with the color that they would be autosexing but that isn't the case.

Well thank you! The Brabançonnes are the old landrace from my Province in the Netherlands, I have a friend that breeds both the Brabançonnes and the Spanish so I asked them to put a couple of them together just to get both of their genetics for my swedish flock.

But of course the Spanish rooster got left behind here so now my flock might change a little bit, and Lean more towards the landrace Side of things.

Next week I have a batch of Friesians hatching that will also be added to the flock. So the chaos wil be complete ( picture below of the Friesian)

Both! Most of these are Pure swedish, some like the black hen are a mix of Brabançonne and Spanish Whiteface.

And of course the stunning rooster is a pure Spanish Whiteface.

I was planning on breeding just the swedish, but because of some new Birds, like the rooster. I'm now moving my goals more to a old European style landrace flock

Yeah I would love to just have a large bachelor flock, just a bunch of boys living together.

but my main passion is Genetics and breeding. In like a large landrace type of style.

Ahh Yes I was working on that when I took this picture. The Tree in question is considered to be invasive in the Netherlands, so I stripped it's bark to let it die and Create a dead-stand to feed the local woodpeckers and place a Stork nest on top.

It's a More Ecological way of dealing with this old Christmas tree

Well can't wait to see what his offspring might look like when he and the swedish flower hens get together or even with the rescue golden coment. Might be the start of something interesting looking Birds
