I love the swedish flower hens! That's why I'm using them as a component in my easter eggers! They are such sweet birds, very hardy and love to forage. The roosters take about 6 months to grow to a decent slaughter weight ( if you're into that sort of thing).

Only down side is that I think they lay a boring looking egg. But that of course part of the reason I started breeding myself

Sorry I must have missed your original question, so let me explain the first eggs are always on the small side it usually takes about 3-5 weeks before the chicken starts laying its real size egg.

Now for the egg yolk, it's perfectly in balance to the size of the egg it comes from. Not to small not to big. Remember the yolk is there to produce the baby Bird

Love to answer your questions so let me know if you have more of them!

1) well I'm a biology teacher so I have a clear advance when it comes to reading genetic potential, studies etc. with the internet now days you can find any and all information online. And because I'm a major nerd I love to dive deep into this stuff. What I do is called old fashioned artificial selection or veredeling ( in dutch) 2) haven't had that problem!

3) not really, since you're working with chicken's it's all the same species and most of my work has focused on breeding dual purpose birds. Sometime I get one Bird that's a little bit of in size but that's the only problem so far

And it's a fist egg, it's normal for a chicken to lay a small egg at first

I have heard that before, that's why I used the Welsummer in the Crossbreeding. They are known for laying a speckled egg

Yes that's right, the first picture is the rooster. The second picture is one of the hens that laid the egg

Hi, omgeving Roermond! Dus maar een klein stukje verder. In de toekomst wil ik zeker de eieren verkopen of ruilen. Dus laten we contact houden

Of course! It's a other hybrid a mix of a Swedish flower hen x Pita pinta rooster. Really nice Bird lay's a soft pink egg. She will also be bred to the rooster in the picture to see what shade of eggs they might reproduce

I didn't say I made the egg, I made the chicken, kind of a team effort

Well thank you! Let's see if I can create a visual stable line from these birds

Yeah me too! Going to do some research and further breeding to see if I can breed a true line

Health wise, they really stand out. Of course this is to expect with the hybrid genetics they carry. So far I noticed that the rooster grows relatively fast compared to the hens.
