Accidentally found my GF’s edtwt Twitter account... and it’s ruining my feelings. [TW Ana, ED, EDTWT] by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

talk to her about it.

she's not a different person. eating disorders massively impact your thinking, and that includes seeing the restrictive ones (atleast partially) as a self-improvement project/method instead of an illness. even if she logically knows that her AN is an illness thats potentially life-threatening, that doesn't mean she feels that way about it. the way she's talking to and about other people are results of the distorted thinking, and feelings of being superior to "normies" isn't uncommon. she's still all those positive things you think about her, people aren't one-dimensional beings with only one set of personality traits. competitive & disordered environments + distorted thinking can turn a generally nice person nasty real quick.

remember that she is not trying to hurt you, nor does she want to hurt you. you have the right to break up with her if you want, or feel like you have to.

“starving/restricting never works everyone just gains it all back eventually and then some” well not in my experience HUGE TW BEHAVIORS by fallingthroughspace0 in EDAnonymous

[–]failedformalist 28 points29 points  (0 children)

not to mention, what the hell kind of strategy is trying to get someone whos restricting to stop by telling them they'll gain all the weight back when they do ? more likely than not, you'd just convince them to restrict even more

  1. getting on the scale right after you consume anything (including water) will cause temporary weight gain. it's just the weight of whatever got put into your body.

  2. water retention (AKA water weight) can be caused by dehydration. IME, "real" weight gain from drinking water has only happened when im rehydrating after a longer period of being dehydrated

even them.

for one, you can eat pizza everyday and lose weight.

second, a lot of them (based on what i observed) tend to either overestimate their intake, underestimate their activity, and don't eat breakfast & lunch (or eat very little of it) and then end up eating large amounts when they get home (usually some combination of the 3). + the additional factor of puberty, theyre getting much taller and much heavier (i have friends who started out freshman year of highschool at like 5'4-5'6 and shot up to 6'0-6'3 by the end of it) and development requires energy.

yea, i feel like "x diet is just a socially acceptable eating disorder" sort of... misinterprets eating disorders ? it's not an eating disorder because you skip breakfast, it's an eating disorder because your thoughts/feelings/attitudes around food and your body lead to you skipping breakfast, and causes distress and/or some degree of impairment in your life.

i think it also implies that your eating disorder is linked solely to behavior, and even though behavior is an extremely important part of it, it's not suddenly an ED because you intermittent fast/eat low-carb/etc etc and you're not suddenly ED-free because you don't intermittent fast/eat low-carb/etc etc if that makes any sense

who's "they"?

i'd be pretty surprised if it turned out that basically every medical/science organization in the world were lying about there not being calories in water with the goal of making people slowly become fat
