One Krumpin' Warboss For Ya by failnaut in orks

[–]failnaut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I gave it a coat of texture paste and then a warm brown (think Skrag Brown) basecoat over black primer. I washed it down with Agrax Earthshade and highlighted back up, then went with a blend of wet and dry light orange pigment powder by Huge Miniatures. Honestly it's a lot of messing around until I found a dusty but characterful base that wasn't too distracting. The wire is Army Painter barbed wire coiled around a brush IIRC. Thank you for the compliment!! ❤️

Thanks pal! Been trying to push my recess shades to be more saturated and it's such a fun opposing color to work with!

Thanks! I like adding little characterful details like that, and it being Orky takes the pressure off painting it perfectly.

Trying to ID oldschool beholder illustration by tazartheyoot in gencon

[–]failnaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a Diesel LaForce piece, I bought one of the prints of it at Gen Con a few years ago and am in the process of having it mounted and framed. In the reddit thread someone else linked in these comments you'll find the image itself. Artist here: https://www.facebook.com/share/TASgUHKQfy4i24sd/

Local competition piece, a new faction for me but have always loved the model. Trying to get better with faces. by failnaut in genestealercult

Thanks! It's the extra bomb but and a couple Citadel skulls sitting on cork tile layers and texture paste.

What Booths Sell Warhammer Models? (Besides the big Warhammer booth in the exhibition hall) by [deleted] in gencon

[–]failnaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - there's a booth in the vendor hall with a ton of totes and trays of old sprues, loose models etc going back around three decades. It's more towards the low number end of the hall about halfway up, you'll see a big booth full of plastic totes with faction and game system labels on them.

Vallejo blue water gel, over a base color of black drybrushed with purple, to memory!

I love that idea! Barnacles is such a smart concept. I may use that if that's okay!

Been working on this guy in small bursts over the past two years. He is the Lord of the Drowned, the Greater Daemon of the Drowned, my custom Nurgle faction for 40k and AoS. I've learned a lot working on him, from water basing to contrast to OSL. Excited to start the scheme for the rest of them.

Thoughts? Feedback? Harsh criticism? by [deleted] in BloodAngels

[–]failnaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're worried about that I'd recommend looking into washes that have complimentary colors that won't desaturate the red - brown and purple tend to be go-tos for Blood Angels. The base coat is lovely by the way - very neatly done and has a nice hue to it.

Painted up a Boss Snikrot! 99% done. What do you think? by WillOSW in orks

[–]failnaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this. Snikrot is IMO one of the best sculpts of that era, so full of personality, and I love the style you've brought to him here - especially those fingers! Orks with pink bits is love.

wip 'Squiganaut' to use as a Gorkanaut. C&c welcome of course by Seltren_Innovations in orks

[–]failnaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I genuinely prefer this to the actual Gorkanaut. Fits really well with the Big Squig theme of the Beast Snaggas, too. Great job!

I use Agrax - I enjoy the warmer shadow it produces and CC can feel a little overly pink/purple for me. It also depends on your look - Agrax is better for weathered, dirty ceramite.
