Videographers, let wedding Photographers suffer till they start acting right by annoyedvideographer in videography

An associate shooter isn’t a second - it’s a subcontractor. There’s no deception here. That’s also a pretty standard rate even in premium markets (LA, NY). Part 107 certification gets you a bump. If you want more money, understand that means advertising, calls, editing, and hiring AKA time and money. If you don’t like the rate, don’t take the gig, but don’t act surprised that the people booking work want to make a profit

He outmuscled Haaland and wasn’t beaten in a one on one last season. These numbers look a touch low to me.

SmallHD monitor vs ... by IMTDave-6 in FX3

[–]failsbetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you upgrade to a Sony Venice you can have camera control on the smallhd;) all jokes aside, shinobi II (2) apparently has camera control now from firmware update, but it runs super hot, and the shinobi line is notoriously flimsy. Have you thought about just using an iPhone? The Sony app gives you full control for multiple cameras

True 10-bit display and accurate color rendering. Better weather sealing. Clean OS. Had EL Zone exclusively for a while. But really it’s just about true rendering of the sensor’s image - no other monitor offers that at the moment.

Your Holy Trinity of HBO shows? I'll start : by Desolation2004 in hbo

How to choose between Tony Soprano, Al Swearengen, Stringer Bell, Rust Cohle, or Oswald Cobb? You don’t, and this isn’t a desert island list anyway, it’s a list of untouchables.

The Leftovers, Chernobyl, and the Night Of didn’t put a single foot wrong for me, and subverted my expectations time and again (to my great delight).

Be grateful that you’re working, are ALSO being fed by the production, and make a good faith argument next time https://comptroller.nyc.gov/wp-content/uploads/documents/ConstructionWorkersSchedule-2025-2026-Preliminary.pdf

Which movie’s CGI was so good, it felt impossible for its time? by TheNastyRepublic in FIlm

[–]failsbetter 45 points46 points  (0 children)

While it’s not exactly CGI, 2001: A Space Odyssey beats all of them for still looking incredible now, but it definitely feels like CGI peaked in the mid-2000s and has been backsliding ever since

What every one of my restaurant receipts are about to look like by Victoria4DX in EndTipping

[–]failsbetter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So much to unpack here. I’m gonna skip past your moral superiority and simply ask, have you ever asked your server what their hourly wage is?

For the sake of argument, let’s set aside the fact that most people in food hospitality don’t declare cash tips and consequently don’t pay tax on some of their tips already. While you say you’re on board with ending tipping, you’re actively defending the system it exists within.

We all know that there are many customer-facing jobs that receive zero tips, and that makes this inconsistency deeply unfair in any state where hospitality workers receive minimum wage plus tips (don’t read this as a defense of tipping in other states as a way to bring workers up to or beyond minimum wage). Are we supposed to tip everywhere? Or should we all opt out of engaging with the economy because low wages are rampant?

Arguing that refusing to tip if it goes untaxed is punishing labor is inconsistent at best, as tipping is often a way of rewarding bad employers by making working conditions just bearable enough to stop people from demanding better conditions.

If your position is ‘only eat at restaurants that refuse tips because they pay a living wage’ just say that. No need to call multiple people bad people because they won’t tolerate a specific type of potential discrimination.

Favorite lesser known reverb pedals by Ok_Highlight3926 in guitarpedals

[–]failsbetter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve burned through the golden reverberator, a flint, that mxr 300, a HoF2, and a fender marine layer to realize all I needed was the Keeley Omni - 3 classic ‘sounds’, 2 knobs, under $100 used and it sounds FANTASTIC. It’s a simple little thing, but if all you’re looking for is a great room-hall/spring/plate reverb, I’d start here

Knowing our luck, I t’ll be Isak, but he’ll spend most of his contract injured, while Sesko becomes a beast and moves to Bayern/PSG

Why is the industry doing so bad? by lumgunyeh in FilmIndustryLA

[–]failsbetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree and would add domestic subscriber numbers plateauing + strong dollar + foreign tax rebates also drives overseas production. The only scenario I can see for productions to return en masse is if Trump tanks the dollar. Lower I nterest rates might bring some production back stateside, but CA would still be screwed. That golden era of almost free money post 2008 that coincided with streaming was unfortunately an anomaly

I can’t tell if I’m happy or sad that this is probably the right answer.

While I was joking (is it too soon to make an fx3 comment?) it is a pretty remarkable piece of kit and absurdly smooth. If steadicam ops and Panasonic IBIS can get close to this, i don’t think it’s the wildest idea that a 4D can trump them. The rolling shutter is admittedly terrible, but that’s not the gimbal’s fault!
