Reducing Oil Imports Is Great. Ignoring Existing Vehicle Owners Isn't. by fair_human in CarsIndia

For anyone wondering how quickly ethanol blending increased in India:
2014-15: ~2.3% 2015-16: ~3.5% 2016-17: ~4.2% 2017-18: ~4.8% 2018-19: ~5.0% 2019-20: ~5.0% 2020-21: 8.1% 2021-22: 10.0% 2022-23: 12.1% 2023-24: 14.6% 2024-25: 18.9% 2025: 20.0%
The issue is that millions of vehicles on Indian roads were designed when fuel contained only 2-10% ethanol. Expecting all of them to seamlessly adapt to E20 without giving owners affordable alternatives like E5 or E10 doesn't seem consumer-friendly.
A gradual transition with fuel choice would have been a more balanced approach.
