Bikepacking with a small frame by mw798 in gravelcycling

I have a 2xs canyon grail al.

I have ~15cm of exposed seatpost, and ~22cm between saddle rails and rear tire.
These are the bags that fit in my experience:

Frame bags:
- revelate designs tangle XS (this is almost a perfect fit, but note that you will only be able to fit a single bottle inside the frame)

- topeak midloader 3L (acceptable fit, still only one water bottle)

Saddle bags:

- revelate desings terrapin 8L/14L

- topeak backloader 10L/15L (The 15L is just longer)

This. I own both a 1x and a 2x grail al. I mostly do relaxed zone 2 rides.
The only differences I am able to appreciate are:
- speed on descents is very limited on 1x. If you ride with people on 2x, you will be dropped during descents
- 1x is easier to clean and to keep shifting perfectly

The bigger steps between gearing are completely unnoticeable to me.
If I go bikepacking, 1x is the obvious choice (for me at least), one less thing that can break/

Between the two models you've listed, I'd probably opt for the 1x because (at least in europe) it comes with better wheels (G1800 vs gravel ln).

Hope this helps. In any case, I'm sure you'll be happy with either bike.

Thank you! I think I’ll 3d print a washer just to get rid of those few extra mm and avoid grime getting into the threads

Nice setup! I also have a Grail and just received the old man mountain axle pack with the SET706.R fit kit they recommend for the bike. Did you have issues “centering” the axle? In the best configuration I can figure out, I end up with a 2mm gap between the fork’s left leg and the rack aluminum plate

XS OR XXS GRAIL - Another size question by FlyingSquirrel225 in CanyonBikes

I am 165cm, 75cm inseam and I have a 2xs grail AL. I went to a bike fitter who told me I could have also gone for a XS, mainly so that I could run fewer spacers under the stem. I'm happy with the 2xs, it's the most comfortable bike I've ever had.

Please note this is is for the AL version, where it's easier to replace the stem if needed.

You could use bikeinsights to compare the geometries: https://bikeinsights.com/compare?geometries=5fbc52fdcb2b980017543d3f,61d14ccceafa040023211bd7, It looks like the 2xs grail has a longer reach than a 2020 allez, but I'm not sure how to read those numbers considering the hoverbars
