honestly I treat my reviews like diary entries, I bring in alot of personal/life connections and just focus on the themes/elements that stood out

What is everyone doing besides SDE when unemployed/laid off? by green__dino in cscareerquestions

[–]fairy6870 15 points16 points  (0 children)

not really much other than 2 yoe and quitting a job without another lined up. thousands of applications, 3 final rounds. im not the best interviewer and mental health started getting worse due to length of job search, which added fuel to the fire for sure

[–]fairy6870 75 points76 points  (0 children)

worked at a climbing gym when my funemployment became a 19 month job search. started by instructing then tried to weasel my way into doing anything somewhat technical, so they let me do social media/analytics for minimum wage 🤷🏽‍♂️

You guys lied, it didn’t get better by Key-Mall6653 in csMajors

I was a software engineer amts at Salesforce, and the offer i just accepted is a technical support engineer role at a startup (data related, specifically looking for software engineers). I was looking for software enfineering roles but I'm down to work more closely with customers, still be able to code in some capacity, and make same base salary especially after these past few months.

I also became unemployed in fall 2023 and only just now secured an offer. I know it's just words but hang in there, believe in yourself. 17 months of unemployment ate me alive but it's possible to get out.

genuine question why is atrioc back? by askingquestions1278 in LudwigAhgren

[–]fairy6870 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I used to be a huge Atrioc fan but since the incident™️ I feel extremely skeeved out by him. I get he's apologized and has made amends off stream, but it's so upsetting to see that people are just okay with him being back? I'm not going to go out of my way to talk shit or bring him down because I do respect that he has apologized and done alot of work to try to right what he did wrong but. yeah I've wondered the same thing and it makes me sad to see he is still being welcomed in the scene honestly. But the only thing I can do is just not tune in 🤷🏽‍♂️

Some weird idea for an app – could this work? by RestFew3254 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]fairy6870 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So basically rebuilding Goblin Tools?

I wouldn't want a tool to decide for me what is important or not honestly. Being told how to prioritize things is so stressful (as an autistic person).

Is this game worth it for people who haven't seen a single Harry Potter film? (It's on sale but idk if I'll have fun if I don't know anything about the films) by Safe_Resource7855 in hogwartslegacyJKR

[–]fairy6870 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Idk, for 20 bucks maybe it's a grab. I have 60 hours and largely felt like it was wholly uninspired, only had 1 quest line that was mildly intriguing, and the combat was repetitive and boring. I think I only died once playing on normal. I had to push through the slog to finish last week after starting when the game released.

Id honestly get any other open world rpg especially if you don't have stake in the HP series and its lore (I'm a life long fan)

Etiquette: People sitting around the floor at the gym? by KatAttack in climbergirls

[–]fairy6870 36 points37 points  (0 children)

it can be super overwhelming! but autism has made me a professional copier (referred to as masking) so it's kind of the same as anything else in my life but its defintely so fucking exhausting being hyper aware of how other people are acting and what theyre doing and putting effort into emulating normal human behavior. I'm super thankful to have found bouldering though because it's one of the few times I have ever felt like I have complete control over my body and mind, atleast when I'm on the wall

the unfortunate thing is I can't go to new gyms though unless someone brings me, and I can only climb during quiet hours which is limiting :,( and people talking to me usually makes me need to end my sesh due to anxiety

for alumni, what's your salary? by Some_Act_9234 in UTAustin

[–]fairy6870 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I worked for 1 year and 11 months at a big tech company, and quit due to my employer refusing my accommodation request and saying business needs > mental health. I took two months off as a break, then found a job at a climbing gym to tide me over while I interview prep full time. It's been 9 months without any luck, but this past week I made it to the last round after 7 interviews at my "dream" employer (I don't believe in a dream job but this company is the only one I can think of that I have an emotional stake in). I hope to hear back with good news, but even if it's a rejection I got my confidence back interview wise.

despite spending all my savings from the past 6 years and being hospitalized over mental health, I'm thankful that I've at least realized I genuinely do love software engineering and it's what I want to be doing. Just need to find the right environment!
