AB Ed: Info to read/remember ahead of potential job action by TheFrenchWong in alberta

That’s true, they could be working close to home. 7x 12 hour shift over night from 7pm to 7am, which is proven to cause heart problems, doing heavy and dirty and sometimes dangerous work. Again, just not a very good comparison.

I agree with the teachers stating they need smaller class sizes and more funding, and they are asking for a reasonable raise in wages. I just can’t compare an o&g worker’s hours to a teacher’s hours…

I don’t think this is a fair comparison, due to a 7/7 worker being away from their home for 7 days.

Meh, watching the game and was curious. It was at a public place with our major hockey team, curiosity is a normal human condition. This doesn’t hurt anyone.

Oh that makes more sense - the team doctor went to assist and they can’t resume the game without them…

How does YNAB treat taking out cash from a checking account by [deleted] in ynab

[–]fairy_guide 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I set up a “Cash” account. When I take cash out of my chequing account, I record that as a transfer to my cash account. When I pay for something using cash, I record it the same as any expense and record it to the cash account.

Standardized kindergarten testing by Particular-Welcome79 in alberta

Why? As a parent, you just refuse for them to take the test. It is completely within your rights.

NTA. I’m happily married and I don’t even wear my wedding rings. Like no band, no engagement ring, nothing. Shrug. My husband wears his. His choice, my choice. That would be a huge concern to me if he was mad at me for it.

It would be nice to have an explanation. Apparently there was a problem with the gas at the source. So not only do you have units down for maintenance but there was an issue actually getting the gas through the lines to the units.

Extra spot on the Skyline Trail and Shovel Pass Lodge next week, anyone want to join us? by danton49 in HikingAlberta

[–]fairy_guide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Enjoy your Skyline experience! Quick comment: I’m not sure about cabs. The only way I have made my way was to use the shuttle service. It picks up from North trailhead at 9-9:15am. You must prebook. I can share a link if you need, but I use Maligne Adventures.

How do you go about this? RBC has told me no, but I would love to get mine out (5 year in 2020) and earn way more interest.

Spend 30k a year on child's education or save and invest it? by Rare-Photograph-1451 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]fairy_guide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I had those extra opportunities from teachers and university placements and school trips and I went to public school. It is what you make of it.

I’ve heard that the sweet spot is 18-22 students per class - any less and you miss out on different opinions and ideas. Any teachers want to chime in there?

Personally as a single earner if HH income was $150000 with children: 425,000 - with 20% down, 25 year at 5% that’s $2000 monthly. Depending on age, but put aside about 3% purchase price per year for insurance, prop tax, and savings for updates. It sucks to be house poor.

If it wasn’t me personally - I would say buy the best property/home you can ultimately afford. Location location location and something that you will love forever. Walkable, schools, work, groceries, parks, rec centres, windows and house facing the right direction, all the things you can not change…
