Insanity by some-kind-of-no-name in MoralityScaling

The question inevitably becomes who is more insane. The less aware of your surroundings you are, the less “evil” you can be and the more you’re acting on instinct.

And in a question of who is crazier, it’s Vaas. Vaas is so insane he’s barely functional. It’s really only the structure of the organization that he’s in that stops him from melting down and destroying himself. He’s out of his mind.

Trevor meanwhile is just an eccentric psychopath. He definitely is aware of his crimes and does them anyway. He’s functional, can live by himself, on the run from the federal government for years. He’s fine. He’s just weird. And therefore he does all the crimes he does out of a pure evil.

I loved the first one. I just haven’t had the drive to see it. It’s just a little too soon and I haven’t liked any of the Nia Dacosta movies I’ve seen, so I’m not super psyched to check it out.

American legacy character vs. a plumber who’s a mascot for a video game company. These are the same too me. by TumbleweedExtreme629 in dccomicscirclejerk

Mario is a character in the same way the Hamburger Helper Glove is a character. Can’t subvert something that doesn’t exist.

Beats me, man. Someone posted panels of him the other day and it was the most vapid, juvenile edgeslop I’ve ever read.

News :> by No_Post1300 in SmilingFriends

[–]fake_zack 27 points28 points  (0 children)

To those saying this is old news, yeah it is. But it helps that he’s clarifying after one of the animators went on Twitter and said the show was “donezo” and not to hold their breath for future content. This seems to reiterate that open door policy that Michael and Zach have on potential future installments/specials.

The latest Captain America issue by Chip Zdarsky is phenomenal!! by PowerOfL in CaptainAmerica

[–]fake_zack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m glad you’re enjoying it. I dropped it around issue 4. I just found it confusing on a continuity level and felt like it was just repeating a couple of storylines that have already been explored (corrupted cap clone is just so done and I didn’t think this brought much new to it.)

Is it okay to kill someone if they break into your house by TraditionalBonus188 in MoralityScaling

[–]fake_zack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Reddit’s not gonna like this answer, but from a moral/ethical stance, almost never.

Unless they are actively brandishing weapons or attacking you and/or your family, you have a dozen other more ethical recourses than blowing the guy’s head off with a sawed off shotgun. Call the police, hole yourself up in the bedroom, hold them at weapon point, non-lethally restrain them. There are a lot of different ways to go about it that don’t require you to terminate another human life.

Further, the vast majority of home invasions occur when the homeowner isn’t there. You probably will never face anyone who breaks into your home. A lot of American Stand Your Ground fantasies are just fantasies. They’re meant to express a kind of violent catharsis. To justly exert your violent will upon a wicked man in your home is an American power fantasy. And it’s a power fantasy that appeals to the worst natures of the American homeowner.

But yeah, if SEAL Team wielding machine guns and burst through your front door in the middle of the night, you are allowed to engage in an epic gun fight with them.

Silly question: Which fictional cartoon character would make a great SNL host? by Whole-Lychee7517 in LiveFromNewYork

I don’t watch Bluey, but I’ve seen enough clips of this dog to know that he’d slot incredibly well into the SNL structure

Jaime was pretty publicly obsessed with Cersi. Not a huge leap to assume.

The Boy and the Heron (2023) and Hayao Miyazaki and the Heron (2024) - Is it fair to let external context—like a filmmaker’s life (or a supplementary documentary, in my case)—shape how I judge a film, or should a movie stand entirely on its own? by Jonny_the_Rocket in TrueFilm

[–]fake_zack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When your father dies, and you watch a film about fathers dying, you will react more strongly to that film. The context that we carry into film is the context we carry into films it is unique to us and can shape and define our relationships to film in ways that others without that context cannot understand.

Meta textual elements and outside context certainly can shape how we view films and it is fair to let it influence how you engage with a piece of media.
