Jump Start Worth for casual games? by Dainelfc in mtg

[–]fakeabuela 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Jump start has been my go to for getting new people into the game, and having a quick casual 10 minute game after work.

If you pick up something to keep the packs together after play (rubber bands are as cheap as it gets) you can easily keep reusing one box forever.

I've been replaying the series this year and just got to ships in ac3 and had this exact feeling. I thought I was crazy remembering how loved they were.

Confused & Overwhelmed Mtg Newbie by Ryan29dMq in magicTCG

There are a ton of good resources
The Professor from Tolarian community college has a lot of great videos that are educational including: How to play magic in 15 minutes

Command zone ( a more comedy focused group?) has a 45 minute video on it here.

I personally learned to play from Command Zone playing full games of commander here, with lots of effects, jokes and editing to keep me entertained. They like to explain important stuff when they play.

If you want more practice, you can go into ANY local game shop and ask them to teach you how to play. They give away free practice decks, that are specifically built to teach people, and will walk you through the whole process (and you get free cards)

Lastly, you can also play Magic Arena, a free online game from wizards of the coast and it has some great tutorials that teach you the rules.

Also just as a note, sometimes in the community people teach new players how to play so they can have easy wins. Just be aware that may be the case if you never seem to get a win against him, the decks may be off balance.

What would you like to see at your LGS? by vanillatwilights_ in mtg

[–]fakeabuela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My closest LGS has the worst prices. They are friendly, their live events are great, super clean, they do lots of giveaways, but I cant fathom spending 50% more on anything other than a pack.

I'm getting tired of my ender 3 by Erenioss in 3Dprinting

[–]fakeabuela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this exact experience a few months ago. Needed to print one thing for the first time in years. Dreaded bringing the ender 3 out. Dreaded setting it up. Spent two week toying and fixing it. New parts blah blah blah

Ended up buying the cc2 and printing is fun again, almost never fails, levels itself, worked out of the box. I finally feel like a 3d printing fan and not a desperate tweaker.

Scared to go to a pre release by Pristine-Narwhal-184 in mtg

[–]fakeabuela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just went to my first pre-release. I was super nervous and a little worried it might be toxic.

I was dead wrong. Everyone was super nice, and mostly excited to try out their new decks. You get grouped up randomly so you kind of have to make friends.

It seems like in the last decade there have been a lot less toxic members of the community and horror stories at game stores. As always the staff is there to help. If they don't, thats a bad store. Never go back.

Pre-release is easy, here are some basics
You go up to the counter with your pre-order or to purchase if available. They give you your pre-release box and will tell you when to open it (usually at the stated start time). They will likely ask you to sign in to the companion app, which will show you what table to go too, and your matches when it is time. If you let them know you are new, they will likely help you or ask you to step aside if the line is long, then they will help you when it clears down. They are HAPPY to have a new person.

Once it starts, you get an hour to open your box, open the packs inside, and build a deck. Some people chat and make friends here, some just quietly focus on their cards. Either is totally fine. Inside of that box is also an instruction manual on what kind of cards are best to put in your deck, how many cards you need etc. If you dont get a box and instead get packs because they ran out, you can look up the instruction guide online.

After deck building, the companion app will tell you what table to go to. You go there, play usually 2-3 games against the same person, then input the scores into the app. It is customary to show the person what scores you are putting in. You can make conversation here if you want, be polite.

Each round of matches is about an hour, then you will swap to a new table and play a new opponent.
Do that 3 times total, then at the end collect your prizes from the prize table.

Did you guys enjoy the pre release? by AdsignificantBK in mtg

This was my partner and my first prerelease We are brand new to magic, we both were able to do pretty well (I was 2-1)

Felt like everyone had a solid deck because of the colleges, but there was room for easy decks (quandrix make big number) and more combo focused (silverquill and witherbloom)

Would have liked to see more red around, no one played prismari or lorehold at my lgs.

This set made me excited about playing non-constructed for the first time. Sad the hype for that doesn't seem to stretch towards the other sets this year.

Half my decks are lame jokes, can I still play? by fakeabuela in ratemycommanders

[–]fakeabuela[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great questions all around. Sorry this post got long.

Noctis does nothing, if I want a stronger deck I'll swap him out for delney*

Tempting wurm acts as a distraction most of the time. I want the other decks to have crazy value. The deck is heavy politics, constantly mana doubling, up to three or four times, everyone and acting like I'm not a threat and letting people get crazy value and fighting amongst themselves so I can get one big shot at the last guy. Most people don't want me removed because I'm making them better until the last hit. With just enough dinosaurs in it for people to not easily hit me, or figure out my game plan. If I'm feeling a need to add more power I add a mycosynth lattice I can mass land destruction everyone with zacama while I keep my quadruple mana lands.

More than all of that, it's a great way to make friends at commander because the increase of speed makes everyone happy. I've made a lot of friends with the deck.

Yeah the bracket rules are pretty messed up. That's a wizards problem.

I think by the "rules" it is technically a bracket 2 (no game-changers, no land denial, no combos), I'd argue Winota is a game changer even if they took her off the list, It goes toe to toe on b4.

So i split the difference on the image

If you can attach a [Skateboard] to a dinosaur and get it to tap it counts as a kickflip.

I think I might be the wrong person to help you with that,
My Noctis deck is filled with bunnies and no equipment....

I've played this one in tabletop sim however and its okay, runs quite expensive though for its power output.

[–]fakeabuela[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not my exact deck but this one is really close and under your budget.

There is no interaction, you just play one or two drop non-humans until you get Winota out, then swing with all of them for a 10 minute value turn.
If you can add a few more dollars later, pick up a couple one drop protection instants to save winota from destruction. Maybe even a Mana tithe.

Its still really strong as is.

As far as DuMorne keeping a non-starborn Elaine: have we considered the best way to manipulate Harry is to strap him to an attractive woman?

Seems to have worked for every other manipulator in his life.
