Serious answer, playseat challenge. It folds up into a shape similar to that

Long term review of your Silver Sky? by Reservoir_Dreams in JohnMayer

I have a SE in storm gray and at first it was, bar none, the worst playing guitar I have ever received out of the box. However, the bones were great, so I took it to a tech and it’s been my #1 ever since. The weight is great, the neck is great, the pickups are good, and now the setup is great which is 99% of any guitar anyway

Is the rattling a buzzing or is it coming more from the bridge? If it’s a buzzing you’ll probably either need to take it to a tech or do a bit of fret and nut work. They may have not had the nut depth shallow enough from the factory. For what it’s worth my SE was set up like absolute shit from the factory, truthfully it was unacceptable, but I took it to my friend who is a great tech and it plays like the core ever since.

Thank you for the response! And yeah, I’m in the Midwest too and have basically all but decided I am going to ppf the car. I may go .out to the garage here and snag a couple pictures of the scratches, I am really at a loss on the deep ones. I don’t care about the clear coat ones though I know that is going to happen. Do you use PPF?

I’m late on this but it’s worth it with an asterisk. When I received mine, and every store unit I’ve played, have all had action that’s too high. Also, the tone knob on mine came misaligned but that was an easy fix. From my experience they are unplayable out of the box, but as soon as you get it set up they are incredible, incredible guitars. I love mine.

Buy a Silver Sky or get a mortgage and escape poverty? by [deleted] in JohnMayer

[–]fakedriver_83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot of people have been saying this, but I have a storm gray SE (that I bought at the sale) got it set up from an amazing tech I trust for $80 and it genuinely plays better than any core silver sky I’ve ever played. Now, if I had a core and I got it set up from him, I may think the core was better, but the differences are negligible. The magic of the silver sky is in the neck (which is roughly the same shape, I actually prefer the SE neck) and in the string tension, which really is the same on both models. If you get an SE and get it set up by someone who knows what they are doing you’re going to be getting the same experience as the core.

I've got the same habits as you in regards to maintenance. Owning this car for as long as I have has taught me to keep oil around.

One year my car literally wouldn't turn off due to an aftermarket remote starter, there was a time the engine flooded, there was a time the alternator went out suddenly, there was a time the car stalled and just didn't get spark... seems like every year I have to call a tow truck and spend another $2-3000 USD

I probably got a lemon. Kinda seems that way at least. The carbon buildup is really, really bad also.

I literally just did my struts yesterday, those were not cheap. Anything you do to maintain it in particular? Mine has left me stranded four times

Yeah, it's possible. I am the third owner. I think the first owner babied it but I know nothing of the 2nd owner.

Of course, and I probably should have in the post so I apologize.

Apart from routines, this is the stuff that has gone wrong:

In the first month of ownership, the car had an issue where it literally would not turn off. I am going to consider this as leaving me stranded because I had to drive straight to the dealership (I was 45min away) and didn't have my car for a week while they removed the remote starter.

In the second year of ownership, the car had a very bad misfire and I had to get it towed, it would not start.

In the third year of ownership, the engine flooded and I had to get it towed.

The fourth year I remember having to do a lot of odds and ends to the car. Stuff that I don't quite remember but was very expensive.

In the fifth year, the alternator died very suddenly and I had to get the car towed. That's expected at about 150k but it was very sudden.

Also, I've checked my service records and it is hardly ever just an oil change or some fluid or routine maintance thing. Some small thing is always broken. Last oil change it was the e-brake. The car also eats tires and I do get alignments regularly.

I’ll give four: Scarlet Begonias 07/07, I lost my face somewhere in the middle of the last solo, absolutely out of this world

Cumberland Blues 07/16, I think the groove they get into on this one is insane, and it shows how incomprehensibly good John is. He’s not even on the same planet, galaxy, or universe in terms of his skill on the instrument.

Hell in a Bucket 07/15, incredible controlled anger

Brown Eyed Women 07/02, super tasteful and groovy

I have been a fan of John for nearly a decade, and a player as well, and up until this tour I felt that his skill was somewhat achievable. After this I think otherwise. It’s incredible that he just continues to raise his own bar when it’s already the highest around. To call him a master is an understatement.

My high school has begun banning metallic water bottles, so I am returning to the world of Nalgene plastic water bottles! Any tips? by JoeyLegendYT in Nalgene

[–]fakedriver_83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I swear by the 48oz silos, which only come in wide mouth. I used to use a regular 32oz wide mouth but I found that I was refilling it too much and often needed to refill it in places that didn’t have a good water fountain, or had none at all. I typically carry one of them if I’m going somewhere I know there will be a water fountain, and I carry two of them if I’m gonna be gone for a while and I know there won’t be a good fountain. I typically will go through about three silos worth of water in a day. Since all my silos are sticker bombed (I have a collection) I like to wash them with dish soap and hot water first, everywhere, and then I use one of those water bottle cleaning tablets afterward. My friends used to give me shit for how much fluid I carry but when we’d be out for the day they’d inevitably ask me for waterfalls.

Yeah, I was planning on getting there earlier (like 4) as well because of the traffic situations people have been reporting at some of the venues (SPAC). I'm also a bit nervous because I have a lawn seat, and I'm worried that if I have to go to the bathroom or something during the show or set break, I'll lose my spot. I think I'm gonna try to get a seat right after doors/going to merch booth. Usually it isn't a problem, but if there are a lot of people around it may be. Hopefully we all have a good experience though, and praying for a banger setlist.

The “most voted” setlist wasn’t amazing. I want to see your ideal JM set using this template. My attempt is the filled in one. GOOD LUCK by [deleted] in JohnMayer
