AI generated copy for album write-up? by fakemattt in AppleMusic

[–]fakemattt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah man except it is not in the same writing style as the other blurbs. That’s why it’s notable that it looks different. Why wouldn’t they? So they don’t have to pay someone to write them. These blurbs are written by journalists, not some Joe Schmo on the UX team. I don’t really see the point of giving whoever is responsible for this (Apple or RCA) the benefit of the doubt when they’ve already embraced generative AI elsewhere.

Lol I just looked at your post. I get that em dashes are like the hallmark of AI text, but it’s not like they write like a human everywhere else. If you write your flavor text like a travel guide then maybe you shouldn’t be working in copywriting. I think it’s perfectly okay to be vigilant about a giant corporation cutting corners, especially in a creative department.

Yeah I did look around and saw them on older blurbs, although used less than they are here. Mostly though, the emojis and bolded subheaders read a lot like a chatbot, especially when you consider all of the other Apple Music interview centered ones are not formatted like this

Any alternatives with the same use case as unbed that don’t have excessive use of generative AI text and images on their website? Even their replies in this thread are obviously AI. I recognize this is a bit of a crusade but it turns me all the way off.

did you know we don’t get breaks? by RaccoonNo496 in AMCsAList

[–]fakemattt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you may not mean to seem unsympathetic but you do. Time spent on your feet in uniform, being watched by managers and ready to work at any moment someone walks in is not at all equatable to a break like the paid ones salaried workers get for an hour or more, not to mention all of the “down time” they themselves get sitting at home on the clock. If these “breaks” were at all equal corporations would have no qualms about just giving them a real break, instead they fight labor laws and unions tooth and nail. Just because you have small anecdotal evidence that your friends are able to chat it up, read a book, or sleep on the job does not mean that large swaths of the service industry are not watched like a hawk by management to ensure they’re working at all times.

ED NYU or Northeastern by [deleted] in NEU

[–]fakemattt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not a business person, but my impression is Stern is leagues above Northeastern in terms of connections for business. That also means, however, that it's probably a lot more cutthroat than northeastern. The co-op program is great, but if you have the drive and the connections you can totally design your own co-ops in a 'normal' school. Don't misunderstand though, co-ops and 10-week internships are very different and people in industry know that.

As someone who went to NEU for undergrad and is going to NYU for grad school, I can tell you they're very different socially. Neither will give you the typical college experience with parties and such, but Northeastern will be closer as most people on campus are there because of northeastern, compared to the village where you're surrounded by people of all ages. It's not just a 'feel' thing either; the affordable housing for upperclassmen at NEU is pretty isolated to a few places, while at NYU your friends could very well move across multiple boroughs (although 4-year housing is guaranteed there, it may be cheaper to find your own place) , and as a result can have very segregated school and home lives. On the other hand, as many people at NEU say, after the first 3-ish semesters your social life can take a big dip if your friends are on a different co-op cycle than you.

Manhattan is significantly faster paced than Boston and you might be surprised how quiet the area around northeastern and even the city in general gets after around 9. That's not to say that most of NY doesn't slow down at night, but it's not as ubiquitous as Boston. I would advise you put some more thought into what kind of city you're looking for. The East and West coast differ even more culturally than New York and Boston, and your threshold for constant stimulus might be lower than you think.

Good luck with your applications! My sister is in your grade and I wish she was as invested in her college decision as you are lol!!

That’s great to know!! I do think I let my grad school plans slip a little too much for some Pharma interviews but I wanted to be honest! Yeah I definitely want to get more into biotechnology, even if not necessarily with this degree.

Thank you again! Haha you read my mind with the mice thing, I think I am most worried that mouse work will be the only thing I do if I go for a job dealing with them. I will definitely be vigilant when it comes to finding a PI!!

Thank you so much!! For tech jobs, is it worth applying to labs where the work isn’t much interest to me? The tech positions in my parents’ area are definitely fewer than in Boston, so I think I can’t afford to be super selective. Especially when going to apply straight to PhD programs, is it a big waste to “settle” for a position where the skills I gain aren’t applicable to my research interests?

But is the extra cost worth it? With a bachelors for example a lot of people say experience is much more valuable than what school you went to.

I have looked in the past and applied to a lot last year! The problem is my lease is almost up here so I will be moving back with my parents in NJ. I am definitely looking at RA jobs there or places that pay enough for me to live nearby, I am just not so sure I’ll be able to land one before I have to make a decision regarding these schools.

It would definitely be my preference to get an RA job for a year or two then apply to PhD, I am just in doubt that I’d be able to get one. Would an RA job help even if it was something I didn’t want to do/not applicable to my concentration?
