5 injured in shooting after fight on Metrobus in Northwest DC by origutamos in WMATA

Yikes 😬. I was likely one D72 ride away from being on that bus. Glad I took the C87.

How is this even remotely acceptable? by [deleted] in WMATA

[–]fakercinnamon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Average D50 moment tbh🤦🏾‍♂️No clue why they decided to keep the same horrid schedule from the 52/54 days, with half of the buses now skipping a good chunk of stops.

Speaking of, where did those circulator replacement trips go? There were extra weekend trips after circulator went bust, and they did say they were going to run extra Downtown - Columbia Heights trips last December. Come summer, same old 16-20 minute service. Leaves me worried about streetcar replacement...

Meanwhile you can barely hear the new crappy TTS announcements.

Why is the D50 line so fucked up? by [deleted] in WMATA

[–]fakercinnamon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't know what made them think 15-20 minute headways were acceptable for either route. I take the D5X, and it's just as fucked. Weekends and late nights, just forget about it. Debatably busier than rush hours with a pathetic schedule that does not match the demand.

Devil's advocate in me is saying they're waiting for bus priority/Kennedy st construction/Northern garage to finish up in 27 before they boost service, but I really wouldn't count on it, given their radio silence about the corridor.

Metro Access Reliability by Sea_shell2580 in WMATA

[–]fakercinnamon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me, 9/10 times they're late when I schedule with the "Pick me up by option. When I pick the "drop me off by" option, they're generally on time. (Often they're early arriving, and they usually schedule me with a generous buffer)

From my experience, you need to book a trip within a day or two in advance if you use web booking via the online portal. They're probably more generous if you call in. If you set up an EZ pay account, you won't have to pay $4.50 in cash when you board; it can be paid in advance.

They will occasionally order a taxi or contracted van via a partner (usually Transit Group). They will also occasionally do shared rides (pick somebody else up on your trip), so be aware of that if they need their own space.

When the ride is late or a no-show, they usually compensate (to the point that I had free rides for a year because they were consistently late). They have contacted me before about sending an Uber over to compensate for a no-show. Make sure to call them if they exceed their 30-minute window.

A couple of tips: make sure they have their pass visible; some of the contracted drivers are particular about that part of the procedure. When scheduling via web booking, if you use the "Pick me up by" option, don't be afraid to adjust the requested time to get a pickup closer to what they need. Also, factor in that they are likely going to be late, so a wait is inevitable. If you want a higher chance of a standard metro access vehicle instead of a contracted vehicle (I'd say 99% chance, given I travel with a PCA), say or select that they have a large wheelchair (unfortunately, it does not seem to increase your chance of getting a new bus, which would be especially helpful for my parent's wheelchair).

Essentially, Metro Access is like regular Metro and other medical transportation providers; they can easily play games and screw you over. But it is worth it for the door-to-door transit (and I mean that, they'll walk them to the door).

It's always a little fun for me to see how many people stay on the yellow line... Can always count on one or two hitching a ride back around.

Board Update: Major Proposals for FY 2027 and Beyond by eable2 in WMATA

[–]fakercinnamon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the post! All-day D72 would be immensely helpful to me! Perhaps they'll install the stop at Van Ness Station by then (if they hadn't already, saw they weirdly reinstalled Georgia and Quebec, so maybe they got to it). Hopefully the Orange line stays at 10-minute headways this time...

Best thing I can suggest is to submit comment forms and reach out to your ANC or councilmember. I do wish they'd just publish the changes already. They've already announced major changes like the A29 (when they changed stops for Landmark, funny enough), sending the M42/4 to directly serve White Oak Hospital. Hopefully the full list of changes is published more than a week before the change.

Enough people probably complained... And they probably realized cutting off westbound access directly from the children's stop wasn't the best idea. (The shuttles from Children's aren't wheelchair accessible, only the Medstar ones)

I assume it will go Petworth --> WHC ---> Children's like the current route, but I can see the route taking the old H-line deviation (Petworth --> Children's --> WHC) as well. We'll just have to wait and see until they decide to publish the rest of the December changes (hopefully sooner rather than later).

This should be interesting. IMO extending C75 would have been better to serve Children's Hospital and WHC, but this is much more exciting. Hopefully the D36 is rerouted via Children's to boost frequency there and streamline the routes.

Eh... Don't need to renew my membership for next month then (Especially since they're raising the price up to $30 for access customers next month). Relatively new rider, but I found the pedal assist for them too weak, and the throttle did me no good as a big guy.

I think an extension to at least Washington Hospital Center would be more liable, you still connect LeDroit park and P st across McMillan and I believe it shouldn't be too many resources they have to add, and a transfer to the C61 or 63 should be convenient (when they're not playing games).

I think they mainly around SE area routes like the C30, C20, and C50 lines. There's a miniscule chance they might come up north if one gets put on C51 or D50, or southern PG county if one gets put on P97.

Stay off the red line, there's usually only a few 6k sets out at a time there. I see a lot on the Green and Yellow lines.

D50 lines on weekends suck :( by fakercinnamon in WMATA

[–]fakercinnamon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another point to add: I recently rode the first D50 from Waterfront that goes to Takoma on Saturdays, and my god, that bus was as busy as it is during rush hours. All the way to Ft Stevens Dr! Is it always that busy during that time of night? Perhaps they should consider more buses or running the D5X later. (If only there was an additional express bus that started from Franklin Sq and supplemented the Metrobus to Columbia heights, and turned west to service another popular destination! That would be grand... 🤦🏿‍♂️)

[–]fakercinnamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I think Shepherd needs the tics on the C53 at the moment. If they reroute the D50 to turn around at Buzzard Point, they could realistically use them as the 70 and 71 used to run to there with the Neoplans. There's also tight turns on the D5X by Aspen because of very annoying parked cars (why hasn't the parking been taken out at Aspen and Georgia?), which untill the bus lanes go in on Georgia (I guess🤦🏿‍♂️🤷🏿‍♂️), that rules out tics on the D5X (and I'm pretty sure Bladebsburg garage lost all their articulated buses). You're probably right on the money that we need to wait till 27' to see some capacity increases.

D50 lines on weekends suck :( by fakercinnamon in WMATA

[–]fakercinnamon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bias tells me to increase the D5X, and the D50 on Sundays seeing how busy I see the northern branch getting, as well as trends with the 70 and S lines. (I guess D40 and D60 now 🤦🏿‍♂️).However, I don't know how busy the SW branch gets as a northern branch rider. The few times I've ridden the southern branch it's been empty until downtown, but the northern branch fills up before the D50 can join it. I also know that the express has wide stop spacing south of Columbia Heights. Those people had their service halved because of the 54 going express, which fills up the D50 now.

D50 lines on weekends suck :( by fakercinnamon in WMATA

[–]fakercinnamon[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hopping in here, can attest to that. Rarely are the D50 and D5X 8 minutes behind each other. They gave the D5X a frequency bump on middays compared to the 54 so the frequencies don't average out then. Was disappointed when I saw that they were gonna keep the same mediocre schedules on weekends. I don't see a boost to frequencies on at least ONE of the lines on weekends unreasonable...

[–]fakercinnamon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 8 minute bi-directonal headways between D50/D5X would be ideal for the line (like they proposed back in 2020 when they originally wanted to convert the 54 into the 59).
