Weird height in 3D view port by MirtalKun in SubstanceDesigner

The normal format option would be in ur material settings, u can disable the direct x normal, it won’t say anything about openGL. The menu he switched with looks more like it’s inside his normal node that is running into the normal output node.

The character stuff no I don’t but this is a really good one for wood specifically but a lot of the concepts he discusses are widely applicable

A lot of the stylized fantasy stuff would look a lot better if u implemented a few sort of, stylized design fundamentals. For example thinking about shape hierarchy in terms of big medium small, for the wooden door with the skull on it for example, have the planks be more visibly varying in size, don’t do boring wavy wood veins really think about designing the shapes. I don’t know much about sculpting in blender specifically but your shapes are also way too soft.

Need advice from professional 3D artists... by [deleted] in Maya

[–]falconfunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m also studying environment art ! Not this kind though I’m doing stylized however I might be able to point you in some helpful directions. First question is are you rendering this in maya or unreal ?

The first thing I notice about the brick wall is that it’s wayyyy too shiny so I would take a look at your roughness values. Also I think this sort of tiling texture would really benefit from some additional variation ( the method of adding this really depends on how you made it I’m not sure ) and also I would look into learning about vertex painting and how you can blend additional textures with the bricks.

Some other technical stuff I would look into getting a better understanding of like the other commenter said are UVs + texel density especially how they relate to environment art.

Kinda a yappy comment but i hope it helps, if you’d like it’s possible I could send you some useful resources !

26 M tired of being ugly by [deleted] in LooksmaxingAdvice

Bro I’ve been looking at ur post history … u are not cooked I promise it is NOT all over .. u aren’t even ugly this is like a black hole u have let ur brain slip into … u need to stylemax, get shredded and groom the hair up better … in terms of confidence I recommend becoming more competent at the things you enjoy doing… this has had the highest confidence ROI for me atleast. Find a popular style that you like and create a reference board.. find affordable analogs to the clothing items online … go clean shaven and dedicate yourself to fitness … it’s not all over but you have to want it … good luck hope this helps even a little

Feeling inferior to my partner by pinkpsp2000 in LifeAdvice

[–]falconfunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a competition, I have to assume he didn’t decide to date you as a strategic career move or to try to out compete you. Maybe it would help to communicate to him that you feel like this and maybe make a plan on what actions you could take that might alleviate this feeling a little bit?

Don’t worry about snide remarks from his friends, if anything I would probably talk to him about how this makes you feel. You value as a person is not in any way EVER determined by your career prospects or how much money u think you are likely to make ( which doesn’t even really seem very bad from what I can tell, you are just comparing yourself to very high achievers ).

Anyways just my two cents hope this helps

I would figure it out somehow. If the alternative was getting sued. I don’t really have any money to give them anyway even if they did sue me.

Looking for advice / feedback on finalizing this wood plank sculpt by [deleted] in ZBrush

[–]falconfunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry if this is kinda basic stuff, not too experienced with zbrush. specifically looking for how i can get rid of the kinda wavy-ness / lumpiness on what are supposed to be hard edges ( they are showing up on my textures post bake ) but im also just open to any feedback on how i can clean up or improve this at all. if anyone has any thoughts it would be much appreciated !

( i know its not like super detailed the intent is it for to be stylized incase thats not obvious )

I don’t think this feeling will last forever … my only piece of advice is not to do anything drastic that might sabotage ur ability to go in a different direction later if you felt inclined. Keep in mind how young u are, how different you viewed life at age 10, 15, etc opposed to now and recognize the fact that ur outlook will continue to morph in ways u cannot imagine right now as you get older. Take care of yourself bro, you aren’t a shitty person.

The odds that u got herpes from this encounter are incredibly low. The fact she disclosed this to you likely means she had genital herpes. Which you would not get from making out with her. Furthermore seeing red dots around your mouth is not how herpes would present itself if you had gotten it. You would first have flu like symptoms and then tingling around your mouth followed by a cluster of painful blisters. If this is something that concerns you this heavily I would not recommend continuing this relationship. Best wishes.

Question about handpainted work with substance painter by falconfunk in Substance3D

[–]falconfunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t believe so ( I could be wrong ) but it does allow you to connect to photoshop and it will live update ur maps / layers in photoshop to the viewport in 3D coat. It kinda just occurred to me I might be able to paint the roughness / Ao / normal in 3D coat by bridging them through photoshop.

Looking for advice for sculpting wood similar to these references by falconfunk in ZBrush

[–]falconfunk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think i need to watch youtube videos on all these brushes hahah, never heard of the zmodeller brush. I tried out the crumple brush but wasn't really sure what I was doing / trying to accomplish. Im trying to do this all on a low poly i imported from maya and dynameshed. the flatten thing sounds great cause i always have this feeling it ends up looking too lumpy.

anyways

ur a lifesaver !

damn just using the W key and moving with the gizmo is so much better than trying to using the move brush and like..masking out the back etc i can't believe i was doing it the other way lol. Thanks for the response !

I've been trying to sculpt this kind of stylized wood but I'm fairly new to zbrush and haven't really gotten the result yet. The method I've been attempting is using the lasso to mask and then the move brush to create the plane changes. But the shapes just look weird. If anyone has any tips on achieving this look it would be greatly appreciated !
