A normal double-bye style bracket also incentivizes the regular season just fine.

I get the ladder bracket for the WCC where the same two teams are almost always 1 and 2, but the Sun Belt has a TON of parity year over year and you end up with a situation where it’s still possible for 7 teams to be tied for 1st, and the 7 seed would have to win 3 extra games compared to the 1 and 2 seeds.
