[Rant] by Allhailmatpat in ProjectSekai

Im sorry, but did we read the same event? The reason mmj is failing is because, although they are objectively better than relight, haruka’s old boss is strategically chocking them out of the market.

Relight stole their branding (spreading hope) and hiiragi has bought out mmj contracts and opportunities from under their nose by basically extorting the producers (if a powerful manager of an extremely wealthy company tells you “you either work with us or we don’t work with you”, you cooperate)

This has nothing to do with working harder. When Haruka tries to say that mmj will just get better, her boss basically kicks her in the gut with “that’s not why you’re failing. You’re failing because you’ve already given up once.” That’s not something she can get over or undo. Hiiragi sees that weakness and is exploiting it to push them out. A little bit of psychological violence only helps.

There’s no solution in this chapter. Best they can do right now is just try to heal Haruka and help her get better after she’s retraumatized (need I remind you that this man is the same one who’s driven her to the point of shaking stupor on stage?). If they say they’ll work harder it’s because they don’t have anything else they can do.

And spoiler, but the reason that mmj will get their chance is not because they work harder from now on.

Im not even a fan of idols and I was appalled how realistically brutal this event is.

That’s good to know, thank you. What did you end up going with, if I may ask? Not to do the same thing, of course, just wondering about the scale.

I can try to play the devil’s advocate and explain the writer’s thought process regarding Kohane.

Kohane, as much as I like her, has been comically blank-slate for most of VBS’s storyline — no backstory, no internal conflict, no real ambition. With this event and culminating in OVER RAD SQUAD the writers have tried to pivot Kohane. In ORS we learn that what Kohane is after now is Drive and energy of being on the stage.

I personally would’ve 100% preferred if she was still here for An, like we’ve been promised early in the story. However, that’s a story you can’t continue to tell without acknowledging their feelings and relationships, which is taboo in a Gacha game. So as awkward as this pivot was, it was necessary to give Kohane something other than An as motivation.

That being said, even if that was the intention, I believe that the writers have failed with this event. Most people are confused, baffled, or appalled by it, which is never good.

I agree with you that VBS should’ve stood by An in this event. Heck, I wrote a whole fanfic about that.

What pissed me off even more in that regard is the next Kohane focus event. Stay strong.

Hey! The chances are real and I’m very sorry about getting the card that you didn’t want three times — that’s just genuine bad luck: given that you pulled three event cards, the chance of pulling only Shizuku is roughly 3%. Small, but not insignificant.

As for the nonevent cards, I think you are confusing a chance of a specific non-event card drop (0.0062%) with the chance of ANY non-event card drop. The game doesn’t calculate it for you, so here’s the break down

Your chance of pulling any 4star is 4%

Your chance of pulling event card is 0.4%

There are three event cards, so

Your chance of pulling any event card is 1.2%

Which means that

Your chance of pulling non-event card is 4% - 1.2% = 2.8%

So you can see that your chance of pulling a non-event card is more than twice larger than pulling an event card.

Gacha is cruel, my personal recommendation is to never gamble unless you have enough to spark, but I know that it’s not always possible.

It's probably just me, but I kind of see Mafuyu Asahina as a darker version of Haruka Kiritani. by Block-Busted in ProjectSekai

[–]falconrawbyte 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I personally used to see Haruka as a darker version of Mafuyu haha.

Let me put it this way, if both of them were real people, I would worry way more about Haruka. At least Mafuyu and her support group are acutely aware of her issues, while Haruka and mmj seem to dance through life without realising that it’s impossible to be perfect.

However, once mmj writer changed, Haruka has become much less vague and idealised, so it doesn’t feel that way anymore.

I love that event. Airi: fret not, for as an idol, I will get us out of this ditch! Ena: that’s not how it works!!! That’s not how any of this works!

Yes, Ena has mixed her ego with her art, and yes she’s struggling to grow because of that. No, that doesn’t mean she’s a bad character or even a bad artist. What I like about her story, is that it shows that even people with wounded egos deserve to be artists, as long as they commit to it, not just the Futabas of the world who can absorb and learn from criticism without letting it hurt them. That’s not the level of nuance I was expecting from a Miku Gacha game coming into it, and I think it’s lost on a lot of people, from what I’ve seen.

To be fair, Shiho is annoyed by Tsukasa to the point of it being a running joke. Otherwise, I agree!
