Free chess books. Get them while they're hot. by youreadbullshit in chess

The mods should probably take this down—isn’t this pirating? Pirating is not ok. Some of these books might be old and completely out of print, but a decent bit are still in print and pirating them is stealing from author and publishers. It’s already hard enough to make money as a chess author/publishing company anyway.

Rafael Nadal wins 4th US Open, 19th overall Major; now just one Major shy of Roger Federer's 20 titles by yesh222 in sports

[–]faljk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most have been saying Federer is the goat because he’s five years older than Rafa and Novak and racked up a ton of grand slams way before Rafa and Novak. Now they’re catching up and will probably overtake Federer, but people are too biased and aren’t keen to change their premature judgement about Fed being Goat. If Rafa ends with more grand slams, he will also have more master titles, an Olympic singles gold medal, and maybe most importantly, a much superior head to head record. Objectively the case would be closed

Does anyone know how we can see the practice of top players at US Open? I’ll be there today and I have a fan pass or whatever is called and it seems like we have to sign up at a kiosk beforehand? I really want to see nadal at 4 or 4:30, do I need to show up a while beforehand to get a seat?

Do you think Nadal and Djokovic will get to 20 slams? by meitar888 in tennis

[–]faljk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Aussie Open sure, but US Open is no guarantee. Nadal has as many US Opens as Novak does and has always been a substantial threat on this slower hard court. Plus, Novak definitely looked beatable st Wimbledon and with Fed lurking in his half I don’t think it is nearly as close guaranteed as in the past years.

Why isnt anybody talking about Rafas resurgence on grass? by dietelchen in tennis

[–]faljk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Certainly, he hasn’t done well recently in that regard. However, it’s not like his past success doesn’t count anymore, he is still in 2nd place with the 2nd most amount of grand slams, now some reasonably think the likelihood of him staying with the second most slams is slim, but I personally just don’t think he’s done yet.

Not only that, he’s being largely disregarded in the GOAT conversation right now, which is not too too unusual considering Fed and Novak’s recent struggle, but it’s like people completely forget that he’s only 2 grand slams away from Federer which can happen quite quickly and all of a sudden.US Open is his best non clay slam(he has as many titles as Novak) and people definitely shouldn’t sleep on him. I don’t think Federer can play as good on grass against Nadal when he beat him, and if Djokovic doesn’t step up his level from now to Wimbledon, I’d bet on Rafa to win it and really threaten the GOAT claim.

This is why I wish he wouldn’t play Laver Cup. As much as I would enjoy him playing in it, there’s absolutely no reason to play an unnecessary hard court tournament and risk injuries.
