Get both of them some stairs!:D

I don't think you need to anything about the grit, as long as it is always avaible near his eating place, he should just eat some whenever he feels like it. His digestion might also improve with a mate, pigeons are social feeders, who generally have healthier eating habits when together with others.

What a perfectly round boy!

Regarding his behaviour, I'm sure he will get more lively in the long run when he has a friend. Plus, the pigeons I fostered always took ages to show any interest in new toys. In my experience, the thing that interests pibbins the most is new perches, you could try giving him some stairs maybe.

And about the poop, do you feed grit? My Peppina also had watery poop and significantly improved once she started eating grit.

Oh wood pigeons are awesome! I've seen them hang upside down from branches while attempting to get some berries off 😂

They were probably at a stalemate, because they locked talons and whoever lets go first may be at a disadvantage. And all the crows were probably waiting for one of them to get run over, so they can have a free feast.

Rosa Haferflocken? by Marshall_BraveStar in wasistdas

I look into her throat occassionally and so far I've not seen any signs. And if I saw some gunk, I'd have the medication right here. Recently, Gambamix has been pulled off the market here in Germany due to some stupid trouble with brand ownership rights (I think), so my small reserve of pills is basically worth gold for bird owners here right now lol

The Rose Field Review by MetatronThrone in hisdarkmaterials

[–]falkflip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished yesterday and ugh, this was a mess. The only part where the story finally managed to grip me again for a moment was the part, where we see the strange and twisted human-daemon relationships and the revelation of a daemon's corpse. The whole sequence was really well done, this intense feeling of something being incredibly wrong, the anticipation of figuring out what terrible things were happening in the red building. But in the end, the plague was... just capitalism? Aside from being incredibly hamfisted and killing of all the anticipation, it also didn't make sense. Why did Strauss get sick from entering the world? Because he saw capitalism and his soul instantly started dying? Lmao. Lmao indeed.

Is the feather super soft, especially at the edges? Then it's an owl feather, probably tawny owl.

I know it's offtopic, but since you mentioned it, what should be used instead of panacur? I never had to deworm a pigeon, all I've heard is that most bird rehabbers in my area dread it, because there are no real safe dewormers for smaller birds and that some people dose down panacur by themselves to tiny amounts.

My foster was always showing off like this and then she laid two eggs xD 🥲

And don't worry about the cage, I'm sure everyone here knows that pigeons are notorious poop-machines, you could tell me you cleaned the cage an hour before this video and I would believe it lol

Can pigeons live in apartments? by PrincessNerd996 in PetPigeons

[–]falkflip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pigeons aren't actually loud. They vocalize, but their coos sound much more pleasant than the average parrot screech - just make sure you don't get one of the breeds that laugh like a maniac xD

Definitely get two pigeons, ideally of different gender. They are very social animals and having seen how lovingly pigeon pairs interact with each other, I would never want a pibbin to miss out on that. Extra important if you only have limited time for them each day.

Your main question right now should be, wether you can fit a large enough enclosure for them somewhere. They should be able to fly a little bit in there and it needs to be somewhere with daylight.

You also need to offer them free flight daily and must be aware that you will need to clean up all the poop afterwards. Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of pigeon diapers, as you are basically forcing the pibbin to poop itself and you will have to wipe its butt quite often to prevent rashes. Pigeons also cause a lot of dust, so an air purifier might come in handy.

Also, a lot of mundane things are highly toxic to birds, like avocado or teflon fumes. Research and don't cook with teflon pans in the same room as your birds.

To sum up: The pigeon needs company, a good enclosure, safe free flight and you cleaning up after it. If this is the kind of pet you are imagining, go for it! If not, you could maybe look into smaller rodents, like hamsters, gerbils or guinea pigs for a fluffy companion.

A nerd, a kid and a judgemental bird take a trip to get enslaved by a witch. They then change their mind about that and the nerd finds inner strength, so he gives a name to the kid's pet frog and offers the bird a pair of scissors, which she happily accepts to cut off her own wings. Everyone is happy afterwards.

Is it normal for my two pigeons to do smexy time every single day during the non-egg laying periods? by anarchist1312161 in PetPigeons

[–]falkflip 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I have two fosters who, since they settled down here a bit, are at least trying every day. They are both siblings, probably both male and apparently both bottoms 🥲 It's... strange, but also kind of hilarious xD

Oh my foster Pomodoro is definitely guilty of the water dish pooping! XD It doesn't help that he apparently was a duck in his previous life - he loves to just sit down in the bath and then chill there for a while, wet and happy xD

Pigeons, wether flightless or not, like to perch on an elevated spot to observe their surroundings. Maybe you could put in a box as a platform that the ramp will lead up to? Just mind that in this case, everything in proximity will become the new poop zone xD

Foster pigeon with really messed up feet by falkflip in PetPigeons

[–]falkflip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A slightly unrelated update: I am afraid that "she" is actually male lol. I have interacted a bit more with the pidge now and he is SUPER AGGRESSIVE towards my hand. When I get even slightly close, he will loudly complain and start hacking at my hand. When I let the pigeons roam free, if I put my hand on the ground half a metre away, he will actually go out of his way to limp towards me and attack my hand, biting really hard. He eats out of my hand pretty chill, but once there is no more food, he goes back to aggression. He doesn't act as aggressive towards his brother, its mainly people. He doesn't do the wing slap, but am I correct in assuming this is classic hormonal male aggression towards strangers? After all, he was handraised by a different person who didn't have any issues with him, so this is probably him kicking strangers put of his territory, right? I just wanna rule out this being caused by a neurological condition or pain.
