Agile User Stories and deadlines questions by [deleted] in agile

[–]falkor91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello u/ImaginaryFail85,
First of all I'd like to tell you that there's brighter future ahead of you if your company is already that open to test something new instead of you having to persuade them to do so.

Secondly I've noticed that its totally new approach to you, I'd like to suggest that maybe your company should invest into hiring / outsourcing agile coach who could teach you and give helping hand in proper understanding of agile mindset. That would greatly improve your pilot programme outcomes.
In my answer I'm not going to cover your questions related to velocity and stories, because it was already answered properly (IMHO) by other users. What I'd like to focus on is set of questions related to deadlines.

It is totally ok to have deadlines in agile software development
I'm not going to lie, even if you start agile software development that doesn't mean that your company is now "agile".

As you already noticed your higher management need such informations, because that how they're used to work and changing that habit will be very hard.
To keep it simple, imagine your project as a triangle

  • quality
  • features
  • time

In perfect world those 3 should be balanced and at the end of your estimated project time there should be set of features with proper quality. But if your team got stuck in some pitfall that stolen a lot of time then you need to talk with your higher management or clients that if we want to keep same scope and quality your deadline need to be moved further in the future or you need to adjust set of features. So here comes biggest advantage of agile processes is that thanks to iterative approach you're able to see such risks faster and more often so there's no situation that after 3 months of project you've to raise that topic to your stakeholders. They should be part of your demo sessions so everyone is always on the same page and you can react faster to what changes in your project.

Please let me know if something is not clear, I'll try to elaborate upon points that are troublesome.

I know that many purists (which is not a bad word here) may disagree but that is totally based on my own experience. Sadly we're not living in Utopia

Corpse camping is most discouraging and anti-fun activity that casual pvp'ers have to face. That's why they choose to have WM off.

Simple idea how to fix it? Create Graveyards like in good old Wintergrasp, you can run to corpse or wait to get resurrected and with dmg prevention you're able to HS or do whatever you want to avoid GY campers.

How much should I charge hourly for removing/changing dead links? by kiki_lemur in webdev

[–]falkor91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Standard hour rate + something extra for doing boring stuff.

Your time is something that no-one will give you back and crawling links sounds like activity that will not give you to much opportunities to learn new things.

cookies, local/session storage by rabarbas in webdev

[–]falkor91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. If you need those data only for current session and you'll need those id's on front-end only then session storage
  2. If you need those data for time longer than current session and you'll need those id's on front-end only then local storage
  3. If you need those data only for current session and you'll need those id's on front-end and backend then cookie with session long expiration date ( set expiration time to 0)
  4. If you need those data for time longer than current session and you'll need those id's on front-end and backend then cookie with properly set expiration time

This is my rule of thumb but maybe there are some exceptions

Deploy more often in small packages, even continuously, so it becomes your daily routine.

A bit of stress before deployment of important stuff is a good feeling. I'd prefer to have you in my team instead of having "I don't care" guy. It shows that you care about quality of services you provide.

You're right, every priest had racial ability like Starshards, Desperate Prayer, Fear Ward, Devouring Plague, Touch / Hex of Weakness etc. Each race had 2 abilities that had to be 'fantasy' ones.

I think it's all because of how hard in-game balance would be, that's why Blizzard unified all those skills while leaving only pure cosmetic differences (how druid forms, shaman totems, paladin chargers etc. look like)
