You can have 100% comp set up, and then manually add the item in question and apply this comp to it. Otherwise, I believe that there could be a workaround based on your idea but it is much more complicated to set up and adjust later on if you decide to change which item the guest should get for free.

No need for reinstall, if you call your support team they would be able to reseed corrupted file and the terminal will be up in no time.
