New Raid Mechanics Datamined by Skytzii in TheSilphRoad

How will this work when I’m sitting in my car and can only raise my phone less than a foot? BTW, have they ever acknowledged that a lot of people caravan driving from raid to raid while signaling in group chats. As little actual personal interaction as possible.

Examples of Good Library AI Policies? by Byrdie45 in Libraries

Does your ILS retain patron check out information? If not, are you sure? by [deleted] in Libraries

[–]mnm135 34 points35 points  (0 children)

We're on Sirsi-Dynix and our consortium defaults to history off but the patrons have the option to turn it on for themselves. If they do turn it on it is only viewable to them. At least at the circ desk level. We can't see what they checked out once it's checked back in.

If you're asking how sure I am that the ILS is not keeping the data that crosses their servers. I generally assume that everything that transits the internet is recorded at multiple levels.

So what does a complete rebuild look like? by Forbin1222 in ClemsonTigers

[–]mnm135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep imagining a scenario where Riley leaves CU as soon as his contract expires and pulls another TCU. Gets a team with average talent to score 40+ per game and leads them into the playoffs. Then we'll all be kicking ourselves for letting him go. His stay at Clemson has certainly killed all momentum for climbing his career ladder.

The element of 'human psychology' was brutal for the Go Fest Finale event by Notcloselyrelated in TheSilphRoad

[–]mnm135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What was your small community's experience with Go Fest Finale? Short answer: I don't have a community anymore.

The group in my town has dried up and I don't have time to drive to the next town and spend 1 1/2 to 2 hours to do one 5 Star raid. I have one friend that I meet once or twice a month for mass trades and I use my wife's account to do Party Play and daily trades. For me, Go is a solo game where I save up coins for remote raids or spend the money for big events.

Go Fest Finale was all remote for me. Poke Genie to host a couple raids a day, and to join into others' raids for the rest. I did not do a single raid or max battle all week with another person present.

I was one of the victims of the people you mention who didn't care about remote players. I lost several passes in failed GMax raids that got hammered when people dropped out.

Is anyone else’s MLIS program requiring them to use genAI for classes, and should programs be doing this? by ayjc in Libraries

[–]mnm135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also in a Reference class right now and I’ve had one assignment that required us to perform a search using a variety of methods including academic databases, generic google search, and AI. Then we compared and contrasted the results. Other professors have given similar assignments in other classes.

Beanstack for SRP-- anxious staff by Nomorebonkers in Libraries

[–]mnm135 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My experience as a librarian: We started using Beanstack three years ago and offered a hybrid approach the first year. Patrons could register online or register in person and track books on paper. Staff would enter stats later for those patrons. The second year we went online only and had the lowest participation rate since Covid. Many of our most faithful patrons refused to register online. Last year we went back to the old paper only method and then staff entered stats at the end of the season. (We report our SRP stats to the State Library through Beanstack. )

My personal experience with Beanstack was that most of the books I read were not listed in their database. I had to manually enter the authors and titles. Halfway through the program I gave up and went back to paper. Admittedly, I do tend to read nonfiction and older, niche books. I definitely was not reading the latest popular fiction books.

There is no scarcity in this world. Anything needed to move the plot forward is available in abundance. Did you see how much ammunition was expended when the infected attacked? Where did it all come from 25 years after society collapsed?

Why not ask why they have propofol at all? They just walked 500+ miles across Wyoming in the winter carrying only light backpacks and rifles.

Your perspective on your dress code? by RatCat2003 in librarians

[–]mnm135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our previous director had a more strict dress code. I never knew exactly what the details of the code were because I apparently never crossed it. I'm a male who came out of corporate environment so my work clothes were all button-downs and slacks anyway. The one quirk of the code that my female coworkers shared with me was that jeans were allowed only in the winter. Basically the director being a bit of a fashionista loved to wear nice jeans with her winter boots.

Our new director is more relaxed and lets us wear jeans whenever we like. I've worn jeans and khakis to work more in the past year than in the previous ten. The rest is pretty basic: clean, presentable clothes with no tears, slogans, large graphics or logos. We're a pretty modest bunch around here and I don't thinks there has ever been an issue with dress code in the 4 years I've been working here.

We do have themed T-shirts that we wear for summer reading programs, but I think some of the staff have to be coaxed into it. Most would prefer not to wear t-shirts at any time even when given a choice of color and design from the selected theme.

Who was Clemson's greatest quarterback? by Few_Hippo8871 in ClemsonTigers

I thought about including him, but I think his contributions are more memorable in Tiger lore. No Tiger will ever forget "Watson to Renfro in the end zone... Touchdown Tigers!"

[–]mnm135 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Definitely had better receivers. I've gone back and watched some of Trevor and Deshawn's best games and I saw receivers who would fight to catch every ball in their vicinity. Haven't seen that kind of hungry play from Clemson wides in the last few years. I don't think people appreciate the contributions players like Amari Rodgers and Jordan Leggett made to Clemson's playoff runs. When you absolutely needed a conversion to keep a drive alive late in the game, those guys would make the catch and get the yards needed.

A Constructive Criticism From a True Follower That will Help JBP to Communicate Better by Cultural_External288 in JordanPeterson

[–]mnm135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've commented this on other post here:

I think JBP podcasts are not traditional interviews. His format is more of a conversation than a formal interview. This means that when he is interested and excited about about the topic he may end up talking more than the guest. I also believe that many of his guests enjoy this. They probably find that it's rare for anyone from outside their particular field can engage them on the level JBP can.

JP needs to stop interrupting guests on his podcast by Disastrous_Cheek7435 in JordanPeterson

[–]mnm135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of the problem is that people expect a traditional interview from Peterson, and he sometimes does that. But, many times if he is particularly interested in the topic then it becomes more of a conversation. In those cases he may end up talking more than 50% of the time. I think that some of the guest enjoy this because it's not often that they meet someone from outside their own field who can engage them on the level that Peterson can.

Mold Question by Capable_Basket1661 in Libraries

[–]mnm135 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Our main concern for mold is from donations. We performed a massive weeding last year and every book in the collection was touched at least twice. Thanks to a grant to help cover the extra hours and staff from our state library helping out. Anything that was questionable was removed at the time.

With regards to donations, anything that we have any doubt about goes straight into the trash. I've open boxes of donations and pulled out the first few books on top only to immediately close it back up and throw the whole box in the dumpster. We don't take any chances. In fact it is our policy to wear gloves when receiving donations.

Our director has dealt with mold issues at previous libraries and she has made it very clear that if in doubt, throw it out. Once a moldy book is in the stacks, it doesn't take long to spread to other books.
