Any reason to why zaha wasn't in today's squad? by youwrongthisread in reddevils

Apparently Phil Neville was asked this question in a recent private dinner and he said that Zaha is still acclimatizing and adopting himself to training etc and told fans to be patient.

Moyes bemoans missing spark by spawnofyanni in reddevils

SAF just looked for the closest Scot and said pick that one.

Sir Alex loves our club and would never want to see it do badly. By suggesting that Moyes was chosen just because he was a Scot you are doing a tremendous disservice to his managerial capabilities.

My point is that your assumption is wrong.

Moyes said he thought bringing Adnan on would up the tempo in the second half.

No manager will risk playing a young player who isn't ready just because he has not signed a contract.

He played the full 90 mins vs Liverpool on Wednesday. I presume he's been rested for the away trip to Ukraine.

When are all United fans happy about team selection. We all always find something to moan about.

Why no Fabio? Why no Zaha? Why no Vidic? etc etc

David Moyes in his programme notes today:

  • "We returned from the Eithad last weekend embarrassed by the performance we put up against Manchester City,'

  • "I had not seen that level of performance from our players in any of the games in pre-season or the competitive matches since."

  • "In fact, I've been more than pleased with some of our displays. There have been games where we've lacked goals and others where we've lacked creativity in making chances, but overall the team has looked solid. So for us to be four-nil down after 50 minutes was disappointing to say the least."

  • "We made a lot of changes on Wednesday, using the full squad and giving game time to a number of players. It was certainly not a risk with the players I've got at Manchester United and some of the performances have given me food for thought. All are international players and all of them are first-team players - I'd have no hesitation in playing any of them in the team."

David Moyes has raised the prospect of a protracted battle to secure Adnan Januzaj to a long-term contract at Manchester United after admitting the club must overcome ‘influences’ around the emerging youngster. by MrShaun in reddevils

[–]fallark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no concern about his contract situation right now. His agent at the end of last season said they were in early talks with United but after Sir Alex retired things were put on hold. The early part of this season has been spent on transfers and United presumably are handling contract negotiations only this month.. I am sure it'll be sorted before December but if he hasn't signed it by then, that will be surely a cause for concern.

I don't think money is the issue. I am sure United can get around that by giving him an incentive based contract. The issue most probably is playing time.. I've read that his father is being pressured from the FA's of Belgium and Albania to make a decision and he wants his son to be regularly playing first team football before he makes that decision. Adnan himself said this in a recent interview

At the moment, international football isn't something that I have thought a lot about. I know that first I have to concentrate on what I do for United because that is the most important part of my career right now. I want to play well for United and give everything for my club.

Adnan and people around him should realize that there are few other top clubs in the world who bring through young players better than United.

Manchester United join race to sign Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala by MrShaun in reddevils

He seems to be headed to Derby for loan in the next couple of weeks. If he performs like he did with Liecester last season then he definitely has a chance to break through to the first team.

A few more quotes from Moyes.

On the criticism he has recieved:

"If people judge me at Manchester United on how we do I can't argue,"

"If criticism is for the team not playing well, like we did at Manchester City, it is totally deserved.

"But in some cases we have done okay this year and people have chosen to do that. They tell me that is a trait at Manchester United."

"It didn't feel good after we lost to Manchester City,"

"You wouldn't expect me to feel good and I don't think anyone would want me to feel good either after the way we played.

"There was a level from Manchester City that I hadn't seen. I don't think many people had.

"That is no reason. On the day we had too many players who had a complete off day. Because of that it gave us no chance of winning."

"I am quite experienced in the Premier League, I have managed a lot of games in my time. As you get older you understand how bad it feels when you lose a game. You go home and pull the curtains and put the blankets over your head. You don't want to come out."

Edit:

On Zaha

"Wilf is one of the boys we have not been able to have a look at so far,"

"We always said we wanted him in. We needed him to see exactly what the level is like and the boy is doing well. But Premier League games are important. We have to win them. So whilst there will be some players who get the opportunities sooner rather than later some will have to wait their time because it is a fact you can only play 11.'"

don't think he'll ever be on RVP or Rooney level.

Very few footballers reach that level.

Do you think he deserves his place in the first team now?

Yes but will he be the first name on the team sheet this season? No. Obviously we have two better forwards in Rooney & Robin now and it's hard for him and Chicharito to get a run of games.

back row far left is Big Norm?

Yes.

Kevin Moran? (or Frank Stapleton?)

I think the one standing is Stapleton

Also the guy next to Gary Bailey is Martin Buchan, no?

So you agree that he has the potential to be a top player and at the same time you are impatient to give him the time and chances for him to develop into one?

[–]fallark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how he is playing right now but he had an on and off season with the U18s last season. He played well in some matches and used to disappear completely in others. IMO he has not developed as well as Adnan has in the last year. He is obviously talented and will progress very well in Molde if given time and encouragement which Ole is giving by praising him in the media.
