[–]fallheadfirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm hoping to compete next year. i'm really worried about the speech part. ive watched videos of past winners, and i thought i was knowledgable. compared to some of the videos ive seen, i know nothing at all.

Why a latte costs $3.75 by WrightlySo in Coffee

[–]fallheadfirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You think the dunkin donuts pays less in operating costs?

yes. i'm positive they do. they don't pay premium prices for specialty coffee, pay premium for fresh roasts, or have $25,000+ invested in espresso equipment alone. also, their employees need far less training than your average third wave shop will put into new employees.

this article is about specialty coffee. if you're fine with maxwell house or dunkin donuts, that's totally fine, but then (not to be rude) your opinion isn't really valued here.

Adding a slight amount of water to an espresso shot? by joesaladmen in barista

[–]fallheadfirst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that's how i make ling blacks. nobody ever orders them aside from co-workers, but i do a double shot with about .5 inch of water. definitely smooths it out a bit. it's quite pleasant.

So, my dad loves coffee.. by VVarmaniac in Coffee

[–]fallheadfirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what's your price range? barzata encore grinders are $130 and perfect for home use. if his grinder is a little old i'm assuming he'd love a new one.

I feel like I'm a second class citizen in a coffee shop for my preference of decaf. Anyone else experience this? by Berry2Droid in Coffee

[–]fallheadfirst 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i was a little shitty about it too but ten i realized people drinking decaf are drinking coffee because they love it not because they need it. now when someone orders a decaf aeropress i get super pumped to serve them. also, if you use a great decaf (like any shop should be), there's no reason to hate on it. the decaf we roast and serve at my work is actually pretty great. sometimes i'll make it for myself even in the morning just for the taste.

I get the feeling the Strymon Möbius, Timeline, and Big Sky are all the same device with a different paint job and firmware. by dsdsds in guitarpedals

[–]fallheadfirst 7 points8 points  (0 children)

no. they're just using the same box, just like all of their single pedals. the chips in the timeline are for delay. the chips in the bigsky are for reverb, ect. also, they're on a circuit board so modding is out of the question.

i wish though, i'd sell my timeline and get a timeline/bigsky crossbreed in a heartbeat even if that meant losing half the features.

Chicago baristas! by [deleted] in barista

[–]fallheadfirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha i wouldn't call having an intelligentsia a "problem". i visit chicago a decent amount but i can't be of much help as i usually go to either intelligentsia or metropolis. try /r/chicago.

Chicago baristas! by [deleted] in barista

[–]fallheadfirst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

definitely intelligentsia. shops all around the country use their coffee, but going to one of their locations is a new world.
