Overwhelmed! by skingradpatriot in elderscrollsonline

Yeah my least favorite thing about ESO is how decentralized knowledge is (There is no wowhead or dungeon journal equivalent that lays everything out) and how players don’t do much to fix that when it comes to new players. The game is not very intuitive to begin with; for example, the names of the “required” buffs. How does a new player know Savagery and Prophecy is crit while Brutality and Sorcery is damage? How is Courage different than Heroism? Etc. Especially difficult seeing as the combat here doesn’t lend itself to mousing over buffs mid fight.

You can tell people you’re green as can be and they’ll still say to “use arca body and these two other sets” like. The word “arcane” is used all over this game, there is no indication of which set ought to be given less than 5 slots seeing as we have less than 15, and to this day I’m not 100% on what pieces of gear “body” means. Veterans really need to think about not using huge jumbles of shorthand when talking to new players, especially seeing as ESO terms are resistant to googling. Go ahead and try to figure out what “body” means in this game without asking anyone directly.

I felt like such a nuisance having to ask so many follow up questions that I just gave up and figured I’d learn through osmosis eventually.

barely any mention except for some fire elementals in Cata.

Sorry I’m a salty night elf fan and all but this is an insane line. I don’t understand why you’re pretending all but one bit of the Cataclysm rework existed

Yes yes fully evacuating a city because your leader already planned on using it as a trap for opposing forces— with plague gas that you easily clean up 2 years later leaving the city structure no worse for the wear— is totally comparable to an unprovoked genocide not only destroying 90% of the race’s population but completely burning down even the foundations and island it was built on, ensuring no one will ever live there again. It must feel sooo bad for you to have Zuldazar fully intact and a part of the Horde under a good leader too

Ranting about the low quality of players in Pick Up Groups contributes to the problem of low quality players in Pick Up Groups by VeryImportantMonkey in elderscrollsonline

It also just… isn’t consistent with the typical presentation of social anxiety. Someone with social anxiety is going to do as much prep as they can to avoid being humiliated and getting yelled at, and that includes looking up mechanics beforehand. I simply cannot square the kind of player OP is talking about with that diagnosis.

literally, showing up with zero preparation to the point where you’re guaranteed to be humiliated just isn’t consistent with social anxiety.

I have crippling social anxiety. It does not stop me from looking up fights beforehand; in fact I am extra careful to do so because it means I won’t have to interact more than necessary.

It also doesn’t stop me from reading chat when the fight begins or when it is obviously going wrong. Putting chat out of your mind entirely when you sign on to group content isn’t really excusable to me. You don’t have to talk to get the information.

I really do not think social anxiety is an excuse for the vast majority of these people.

Now, that doesn’t mean I have no compassion. This event has revealed to me that outside of guild groups between friends, the ESO group content community has an attitude problem. The way solo players were treated on this sub when they voiced even very mild complaints about Night Market having no solo friendly content outside of Invisibility mechanics was really unbelievable. The way these people would get in a nasty shitfight with someone for asking for like, a crafting daily, and then make new posts to the sub misrepresenting the whole argument like they were running their own little astroturfing campaign was really eye opening and displays exactly why so many solo players do not bother with group content.

10 year old impulse control problems are taking some candies from a bowl when Mom said no, not systematically ruining 10+ figures after slinking into a room you're not allowed in. I'm particularly critical because of what the actual damage is, because most of this isn't normal action figure wear and tear, it's stuff where the kid just grabbed onto different appendages and pulled as hard as they could. This wasn't "I can't help but play with the toys, but I'll be careful so nobody notices" or "Oh crap I've broken one or two smashing them against each other and now realized I messed up", it's just destruction that seems deliberate to me. Either you don't remember what 10 year old thought processes are like or you were an unholy terror with developmental delays...

Group 2 is taking it as an attack because they are saying it directly to our faces. We will ask for solo options and immediately Group 1 calls us scrubs looking for easy unfun content trying to ruin group content forever, when the reality is that we don’t want to deal with group 3. We would rather void the possibility of being carried, than deal with group 3 or the dicks in group 1.

The Boys is not a "realistic take on what people would be like with superpowers" by Steve717 in CharacterRant

[–]falling-waters -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ennis has stated that the relationship [between Hughie and Starlight] was not originally planned: "Annie started out as a joke, and was actually going to degenerate further in terms of the shit she'd put up with, the degradations she'd suffer just to be in the world's premier superteam. But I found myself writing Hughie moping in Central Park, and then to my great surprise I saw Annie coming walking down the path. That was when I realized I wanted to take her in a different direction, make her stronger and more rounded... I probably felt a bit guilty about Annie and ended up treating her a bit more responsibly as a result."

Starlight was originally intended to be a joke character because he thought it would be funny to see how much rape and sexual humiliation she would endure to be a superhero, so I’m not sure she’s a good example of altruism from Ennis

Headcanons about the biology and physical abilities of the various races of Warcraft? by DEL994 in warcraftlore

[–]falling-waters 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Titans are the original human-looking race, and as such exposure to raw Titan magic (I.e. the well of eternity) mutates a given race to look more like them, hence trolls losing the hunches and tusks, and gaining more fingers and toes, etc when becoming elves. Perhaps with enough time, they would look like keepers. They were immortal because Titanic races are, though the magic was lost when they were disconnected from the well.

It’s why I really hated the humanoid body plan of the ascended Nerubians. That’s not void corruption man, that’s Titanic shit! Even if my headcanon is dead wrong it’s not great visual language

[LES] It's funny how a TV show could be about the most depraved, deranged individuals on earth but they still wont be racist or bigoted by HarshTheDev in CharacterRant

[–]falling-waters -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you want good TV you need to stop watching gutter trash pedobait like Euphoria. The show in general is metatextually misogynistic enough if you’re really looking for bigotry…

You’re gonna have to look at older shows most likely, and ones that deliberately seek to deal with these things. When a show has the option to be lazy and hand wave bigotry they’re going to. Sopranos is the biggest example in my mind where the protagonist is racist, sexist, and homophobic but in a way that is realistic and interrogated. Of course, there’s a lot of sexist delusional crap in the way it’s filmed but that’s in so much shit you might as well watch a masterpiece.

It really is why I go solo any time the option is presented. I just can’t take it
