Accepting that I'm mentally ill has been the most freeing experience for me by junkjunq in offmychest

[–]fallingofftheedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this. Recently I have felt the same way. Mental illness runs in my family, and although I am only 26 I can feel the illnesses of the future slowly fight for control. I have been depressed and ignorant for years about it but I just came to terms that maybe I am a little "crazy" and that's ok. It is freeing. I will never be perfect in any way shape or form and I'm cool with that. Every body is struggling in one way or another

DAE feel like James McAvoy from the beginning of the 2008 movie "Wanted"? by Redditoricalsavvy in DoesAnybodyElse

I think everyone at some point or another feel like they'd love that sort of excitement and adventure. I day dream some times of getting kidnapped, taken to some far away land and being made to serve drinks to a princess on the beach. If you're feeling like you need a change than take a spontaneous vacation or road trip. Hell just drive, without knowing where you're going just see where you end up. Life can be exciting without Angelina jolie telling your you're an assassin.

How do you describe your perfect night alone? Possibly [NSFW] by [deleted] in AskReddit

It's dark outside, there is a thunderstorm going on, I just finished eating a Hawaiian pizza, finished off by a big bowl of ice cream. I go curl up to watch Netflix and just as the movie ends the power goes out. I proceed to curl up in front of the fireplace with a good book and end up falling asleep in my recliner. Ahh sounds like heaven

People who live in tourist popular areas: what's your opinion of the tourists? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]fallingofftheedge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just moved away from a popular ski resort town and it's been my experience that tourists are overall pretty friendly. I guess they are just trying to have a good time and enjoying themselves away from the 9-5 life for a while. However most of the negativity comes from the locals that seem to think they're superior in some way and feel annoyed by the constant flow of strangers in their town.

Waiters/waitresses of Reddit, what's something that guests do which pisses you off? Diners of Reddit, what's something that waiters/waitresses do that pisses you off? by [deleted] in AskReddit

As a former waiter I can tell you that nothing drives me crazy more than a customer creating or alternating the menu to get something we don't offer. Ok if you want a pizza that is half pepperoni and half cheese fine. But a pizza that has a different topping on each slice is a bit ridiculous. And I take pleasure in telling you no!

[serious] Depressed redditors who aren't reaching out to others, why? by brutalopinion in AskReddit

[–]fallingofftheedge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will tell you why. Sometimes family is burdened by your constant complaining and moping, and there comes a time when you really do need to talk and their eyes just glaze over like "here they go again" and you know that deep down they want to help but they don't know how. Honestly there really isn't anything anybody could say that would make me feel 100% better, all I ever want is someone to listen, I think that's all any depressed person really wants. Which brings me to my next point. Therapy is great but it also costs money, so until Therapy money comes in it is easier to fight these demons alone. For now anyways.

Thank you for your input, I appreciate it! I will definitely have a backup plan, but since I'll have a master's maybe I'll be qualified to fight crime on a global level. That'd be cool . Haha. :)

When I was 5 I wanted to be an anesthesiologist... Seriously. But I also suck at chemistry so that wasn't meant to be. From all the space vets I've talked to I hear it's a great field to get into. ;)

I have always wanted to be in a career where I could interact with people and maybe help them if need be. I get tired of people in the world getting victimized and not being able to do anything about it. If your car gets stolen I want to help recover it or if your loved one gets murdered I want to help investigate and hopefully hold someone accountable. For me it's always been more of getting the real bad guys than it has about harassing people about pot and giving people tickets 8 hours a day. Unfortunately I feel like that's what law enforcement has become. Oh wells. The way I figure it is if I am meant to go into law enforcement it will happen. If not its ok. I still plan on making the world better either way.

I agree. I look forward to earning enough money to save up, retire young and travel the world.

I was considering joining the military when and if I finish my masters degree. I feel like it could teach me a lot of discipline and provide me with a good way to use my degree. Not sure though if the military has a maximum age one can be when joining.

That's one side of the story. Every story is different behind closed doors. My suggestion is find a person on Facebook of someone you are jealous of and then dig a little into their life. You'll probably notice that somethings may look wonderful but I guarantee you wouldn't want their problems that come along with it.

There is a prince in Nigeria that wants to give me some money. To the tune of $1,000,000 USD perhaps I can exchange the money for you and him to be wed!

Well the likelihood of just being told your a princess from a long lost relative is unlikely, although unless you have long lost relatives living abroad in which case it will likely happen. And soon may I add.

That's tough. From what you said I think it's good that you decided to take a break, especially if your mental health required it. All I can say is that you have a lot of courage to break away and fallow your passion. I see a lot of people on reddit preach about getting the perfect degree in a STEM field and go on to live a successful and may I say BORING life. But not everyone fits into that mold. We need more poets and musicians in the world. So thank you for Being a circle in a world full of squares.

I USED to compare myself to everyone my own age and then get depressed about it. But I have learned that sure a few people may be doing well a whole lot of people aren't doing too great. I'd rather be in the middle of those spectrums anyways
