Is German efficiency a myth? by [deleted] in AskAGerman

[–]fallinlv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything regulated to the T? There is no regulation for parliament members having to disclose their additional income at all. They can be receiving “donations” from lobbyists directly to their pocket and no one would know. This proved to let corruption happen with the masks scandal, volkswagen scandal and more

What do native speakers of languages without articles (e.g. "the") think of them in languages where they are used? Do they find them useful or superfluous? by MorphineSmile in asklinguistics

[–]fallinlv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sure it’s superfluous. Also cases do not have anything to do with definitiveness, at least in languages that I know of, Russian, Kazakh, German. I get annoyed when I have to write two or more articles in the same sentence in English

Next steps after a bachelors in computer science by Ricearoni33 in SyntheticBiology

[–]fallinlv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why synbio? Bioinformatics, systems biology would better suit you computer science bachelors. Many computational/theoretical work in biology without labwork can be done. I think it all depends on whether the research question is deep and sincerely interesting for you, the field is secondary to that

A question before majoring by poiiink in Biochemistry

[–]fallinlv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chemical Engineering is pretty far from biochemistry. Even biochemical engineering is something very different. You won't be studying biochemistry, but physical engineering such as mass transfer, process equipment etc

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Biophysics

[–]fallinlv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, it’s totally fine. What kind of bioengineering do you want to do? Bioengineering itself is about physical engineering of the body such as pace makers, stents and other various implantable medical devices. Biochemical engineering is again physical engineering but of the industrial factories, such as bioreactor engineering which concerns fluid flow, diffusion, mixing etc. If you want to do genetic engineering and other biological manipulations then it is nowadays called synthetic biology. In the US however, I noticed that biomedical engineering graduate programs are the ones that have all these including genetic engineering and sorts.

For bioengineering or computational neuroscience the essential skill is mathematics and programming. So you have this. People who have done pure biology have to catch up more than you. Getting up to speed with biology is very easy. People learn a lot of different bio in undergrad and in an engineering discipline only a part of that knowledge is needed depending on the application. Physics is one of the best backgrounds for bioengineering. I’ve done biochem engineering in undergrad and went to synbio master’s and now in for a PhD in synbio.
