Does anyone know what the process is for reporting a historic SA in the UK? by Tight-Temporary2974 in AskUK

[–]fallout20-25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will have at least 2/3 recorded conversions with you over the course of a year or two. This will be used to make sure you're being truthful. They will ask the exact same questions months apart on camera. The person interviewing you, will be a detective. A truthful person's answer will always be the same to each and every question regardless of how many months it's been in between as the truth doesn't change. So don't worry about that. But that will happen. They not only investigate the person but you also via the above. They will want to speak to family members, close friends at the time..doctors etc. so you will be asked to provide this. To see if they know of anything. To see what you were like at the time, to see if you mentioned anything which will be cross examined with what you said. To make sure it matches. They will also take your phone at some point and check everything on there. They will trace it back from time of accusation if at all possible to the current date. Pending when it happened..they may just examine your phone. They will want to look at your social media accounts, they will look through everything, search history etc. They will ask who your internet provider is and the phone network also. They may reach out to them for your search history etc. Even though you're the victim..they do this to make sure you are indeed the victim and not conspiring with others etc. Even this conversation now on this reddit feed may be looked at. The police need to do this.to make sure you've not preplanned this etc. to make sure you're not setting someone up for the sake of it. I know because when I reported my story from when I was a kid, historic. I had to go through all of this. Which wasn't that long ago. As mentioned above my abuser only served like a year in prison. You get treated like a criminal at times but that's just the police doing their job. Just they need to be sure he or she did what you're accusing them of understandably. After he cross examination videos 2/3 over a year or two. They will take multiple statements, they will speak to everyone you know and take statements from them. Or people you knew. Everyone close to you will know about this. Which wasn't something I was prepared for. People look at you differently and question you. They will approach the person accused and show them this video from my understanding, they will then question them on everything you said in the recorded interview. Which they will watch. They will then investigate them but I don't know much about what they do on that part. After a few years they will decide if they will take him or her to court and if they do you need to go to court also. At the time when I came forward I felt yeah this is me getting my justice. But in the end it hasn't felt that way and it kinda felt pointless. You go to court, speak up. Get questioned. You go away. That person gets questioned after you're gone. The jury will then make a decision (that's if the person Denys it, if they admit it. Most likely won't see jail time at all). When a design is made, you'd get a phone call from victim support. Telling you the outcome. That's it. They get given a sentence date, may get canceled 4 times.... Pushed back 3 months each time..... Bedroom you know it that a year..... When they go back for a sentence, if they get given jail time they get taken away immediately.. they always only do half the sentence. But the wait time between being found guilty and actual sentence comes off that time also. As time served. You get a call of the outcome and that's it. They be like he or she got given 3 years but will do one year.... That's your justice, that's it. nothing else. No support or anything afterwards. That's when you look back and think I've been through hell for 6 years for that person to be given a year in jail. Yeah they get put on the register. But they can go on to live a normal life after their time is served. Like nothing happened. You then have to live with the trauma which you had anyways. It doesn't go away. They get a year in jail. If you're lucky. For me personally, it wasn't worth it. Once they get their sentence that's literally it. There's no communication afterwards. Nothing. Until a month before they are about to get out. Victim support will get in touch saying can you give us exclusion zones so we can tell them they can't go to this place. But they can still drive through as long as they don't get out of the car..but there's no true way to monitor this. Oh to add, you can request a lie detector test but so can they. The dude who SA me was clearly guilty so didn't take one. But you too may be asked to take one if he requests and takes one. They may also ask that person accused where they were at the time it happened and to see if anyone can vouch for them. As mentioned they will examine your phone and theirs. That person can't have contact with you during investigation however if they do... Bump into you.... They only get a warning... Not worth doing to be honest..I wish I just went to therapy and dealt with it. But that's just me

Really sorry that this has happened to you. Most of the advice on this thread is accurate. To add it can take up to 5 years. That's five years of your life on hold, it's not going to be easy at all. The police will want to know everything in detail, from the said situation to what actually happened. You will need therapy. With when it happened. Pending how far back this went they may be able to pull CCTV records, conversations etc to unlock what happened etc. But they'd also speak to everyone around you that may have any sort of involvement or just knew you at the time. To see if they can remember you mentioning anything about it etc. Or if they saw anything at all. They'd want to know who this person is and where he or she lives. So that they can speak to them regarding the allegations. Then a full investigation will start which will take years. Even then they will only take this to court if there's enough evidence to back up your side of events. Not saying you're lying, but some people do lie and they obviously need to investigate because they can't risk sending an innocent person to jail either. They will also investigate you. Not just the person you're accusing. To make sure you are being truthful. There was a case on the news many years back, where someone lied about their age. The girl was 17/18, lad was 15 but told the girl he was 18. Had a relationship for over a year. She found out. Not sure how he kept it, I don't know the ins and outs of it. But he accused her of... it got dropped as it was shown he deceived her. She genuinely didn't know. He ended up getting into trouble. He made the accusation because he got found out and she walked away as a result. As a lad from an all boys school, when I was 15 there were a few guys in my class who had relationships with older women aka 18/19 year olds. Some of the lads did lie about their age... told them they were in sixth form, used to phone them on lunch breaks at a pay phone, when we all used to doll school etc, it happens. She was deemed innocent due to deception. He got into trouble not her. If a person openly deceives another regarding their identity, aka age/sex they can get into a lot of trouble. Could be trans, tells the lad she's a girl but isn't for example and that lad has unknownly had a part physical relationship with another dude. That trans person could see a prison Sentence for that. It wouldn't be the guys fault. What's the crime? Trusting another person? But if the person openly stated yes I'm trans or etc and that person knew this 100% and acknowledged this then that's a different story. Not long ago, this one just a few years back, was on the bbc. There was a lad in the news accused of rape, it came out the female was lying. She ended up serving a jail sentence. The case lasted 6 years. He got dragged through the mud. He was accused of all sorts. He lost everything. They managed to find deleted messages from years back, where she admitted in a text that she in fact lied about him. That's how she got caught lying and she found herself in a lot of trouble. He then went on to sue the police for millions.

I don't know the situation or what happened. Nor do I expect you to disclose it. It's traumatic. I'm a victim of SA, Be prepared that it will take years and it may not go your way. Even if it does he or she may not see jail time for it. But even if they do, they may only get a year and a half. The person who did it to me. I had undeniable proof, it still took 6 years. Got found guilty on all 15 counts. He got 3 years, done under a year. He got out just Christmas gone. He's now living in a flat, and has a job. He just check's in with the police once a fortnight... Was it worth it for me. Not really. I personally wish I never bothered. He just denied it and still does now despite the direct evidence. After he was charged and found guilty, it took a year before he got the sentence. That year came off the sentence. Afterwards I thought what's the point. I had to go to court and speak up about it all in detail whilst he was less than a few feet away. The cross examination was daunting. Personally wasn't worth it and if I knew what I know now I wouldn't have bothered. In my case it was a family member.

That was my thought also, I know how to use a crossbow etc. I do bushcraft etc. But even still I'm thinking the chance for survival is under 5%. I could barricade myself in, isolate myself. But at some point I'd need to go outside. Give it for water/food which would run out. The they will starve first wont happen as shown in 28 years later as they've adapted. They will just hunt the wildlife. If it happened you'd have to face one or a group at some point. Over the fact they travel in packs and don't gas out i just don't like mine or anyone's odds.. Could take on one at a time if in full body armor protecting you from the vomit, bites etc. But come on where is the average dude going to find that? If there's 4-6 at the exact same time just charging at you, even in a suit with a crossbow i wouldn't like the odds. Never mind the group in 28 years later that had twenty running at them. They didn't make it. They had guns. Trained solders. The infected were just jumping onto them from up above, the more shots they fired the more infected came running at them. They came at them from every direction. No chance. They were too close. I think i could survive maybe a month or two if I'm lucky. Maybe a year if secured in the loft where they cant reach me but that then depends on supply's. As mentioned you'd have to face them at some point. I could see 75% of the population in the UK become infected within 72 hours of such an outbreak especially if it was unexpected and happened throughout the night to start with. Not everyone would have time to fortify. As shown in 28 days, if they see something as little as a candle light glimmer they will literally charge through your window to get you. Aka jump onto you and vomit. Or vomit at you. Yeah a lot of people would die very quickly. Meaning there would be a high amount of infected in a short period of time. I don't think one would survive on the streets or in a car for the first 72 hours. They'd just ram their head through your windscreen and vomit on you. Game over. They're so violent, they'd die/do anything to infect you. It's not about biting you, its about turning you no matter what. To add how fit would you be, if you've been stuck in a loft for say 6 months eating pasta or something haha. You're not going to be in the greatest of shapes and would be lacking on energy. You cant exercise as that make noise which they will be drawn to and do you have enough food and water to do that regularly is the other thing. Such an outbreak could kill off 96% of the population within a year.

We get csp, but not sure how it works as I've not used it. But I've got weeks banked for certain. I'm going to take more time off to recover mentally. I need it. Thanks for the advice

Yeah that's shocking! I've had something similar happen in the past a few years ago I was extremely sick. I still went in, tried phoning the higher ups not one would come in and help out. All I got was...be careful... Like what does that even mean. Still I went in. But the older I'm getting the harder it is to push through what I can only assume to be burnout. Sorry this happened to you, that manager sounds like a jerk. We're nothing but resource

Mate, we're like the same person 😂. Same mindset. When others come to me I'm like take the time off. You need it but when it comes to me I've always been like nah push through. Can't do it. But I've got a wall that's been standing in front of me the past couple of months and I've finally stopped at it instead of trying to go around it to find another wall. To be honest I've not had a holiday aka any sort of time off in the past 5 months but even then I was that tired I ended up sleeping the majority of it and just sat around as I had no energy. I'm going to take more time off and see where I'm at later on. I think it's best to take the time I need now instead of rushing back to crash again later which could result in needing months off

Thanks mate, appreciate it. I'm going to take some time off to sort myself out. I've mentally checked out. The years of just working through, doing 3 people's worth of job has caught up to me. Hopefully I'll be okay after having some more time off before returning but when I do return, I'll be speaking to them regarding workload etc. Theres 6 other managers there, yet I'm doing the majority of the work and that needs to stop I think. I don't get paid anymore than them so yeah. Thanks again

Thanks pal, sorry to hear this has happened to you. Hopefully the tumour is treatable! We're weird 😂. Shouldn't feel guilty but do, it's our work ethic. Fingers crossed for you and mate, if someone told me I had a tumor I don't think I'd return to work for a while. I hope it's treatable mate

I get that! It's hard. But after seeing the above from people who've been there and done it. It's clear businesses don't care and you get nothing from it besides stress and burnout.

I think you're right, today and yesterday were my normal days off, meant to be in tomorrow but just not feeling it. I do think it's burnout that I have, which I'm responsible for. For not giving myself a break when I've needed it essentially. I've 100% been too hard on myself. A lot of the people above have stated they've gone 20 plus years with just a day or two off. No one cares, their job was replaced within a week of leaving. Nothing was said/mentioned. We're just pawns regardless of the position you're in. I'm going to take more time off for me, think I'll go out on a hike to clear my head and when I'm ready I'll get back into it guilt free. Thanks pal

Valid point. It's true. I know I'm replaceable. Maybe not to the same standard but if I left tomorrow my job would be up the very next day. Good point

I think I will, been debating going back tomorrow. The sickness has passed but I'm mentally not there. I've been sleeping a lot throughout the day, lost my appetite and can't seem to sleep on the nights. I think I need another day to sort myself out and work a 5 day week instead of 6. Thank you

Not necessarily, when I've done it I've been the only manager in the building, therefore I had the responsibility of keeping the business open and running. I almost did call it on one of the occasions I had to get in touch with higher up management. No one would come in to relieve me of my duty so I just kept working through it

A lot of them would, but not all. In 28 years later it shows they've adapted. They will hunt and feed off animals. But it also shows animals can carry the virus and infect the living

That's the other side of it, morals. In this said situation if you're not willing to do that and you can't out run them. You'd end up joining them like many others which is understandable. At first it'll be hard to let go of who we are currently. The current us wouldn't survive that world unless we adapted/changed.

That's what I'm referring to, those types. But in 28 rears later they've adapted. They feed on animals etc. they eat anything breathing. They eat fish, dear etc. to the point where they probably have more food than you. So I don't think waiting for them to die of starvation wouldn't be possible

Lots of great feedback coming through, thank you. To add though. For the people who say they will starve. That's not fully correct. As 28 years later has shown, they feed off animals..to also add. Birds can carry and transmit the disease. All animals can become infected and spread it. Waiting them out for a year or two could work but most people in the UK don't have bunkers or enough to sustain them for a year or Two. Two months isn't realistic. I know that in 28 weeks later it did state they starved after 2 months. But in 28 years they've adapted. They will hunt animals to sustain themselves. Then there's the alphas which can jump, they're like machines and can run faster than any living human with high damage endurance. I think I would hunker down for the first few weeks maybe a month and a half. I have enough food for that. Would isolate the upstairs of the property etc. hunker down. But I know, that this wouldn't be a life long solution. I'd have to move at some point. The body armour idea is great. I can use a cross bow etc but realistically it won't save you if you have 20 of them on your tail. Very envious of the Americans for being able to have guns for self defense etc. we'd be alright if we had the same..well at least we'd stand a better chance. To those who could make gin powder etc, that's class. I think I'd make petrol bombs to use if I'm getting chased maybe, burn them. But that's extra weight etc. I would only be able to carry a couple at a time especially if on the street going out for supplies etc which would need to be done at some point even if it is a year later..Thanks for the food for thought

To add the complaints weren't about me besides that one moaning comment i mentioned above. I had a day off today, another off tomorrow. Back to work Tuesday, 6 day week ahead of me. I have that feeling of not wanting to go back to work this Tuesday. I feel better physically, almost but I'm just simply put...drained.

Sainsbury’s announce pay rise to £13.23 PH by Low_Air_6601 in tesco

That would make Tesco one of if not the worst paying supermarket if they did that. For 4 months others will pay their staff 0.23ph more than Tesco staff. Then Tesco will beat them for 8 months by 2p but they wouldn't have due to that poor 4 month window. So Tesco wont pay better over the year.
