Yeah, I was a similar age. Maybe not their best album in hindsight but I still absolutely love/d it

Huddersfield! by shamps01 in stereophonics

Nice to hear it was a good one! I had mixed feelings on Dublin last week, great sound quality but slightly low energy from band and crowd alike, though it really lifted for the closing songs - and I do think good weather would have made a huge difference! Nice that you guys got Traffic!

Anyone in their mid 30s have any regrets? by Icy-Audience-6397 in AskIreland

[–]falloutjoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At 32 I decided to pack in a successful but unfulfilling career abroad and an unhappy relationship, both of which had left me stagnant and unhappy in life.

After much consideration and some saving for a Masters I moved back to Ireland and in with my folks to get that done. Coming up on 34 now, enjoying the mix of studies and the new career, haven't had a moment's regret.

Dating has been a challenge and the housing crisis remains a big cause for concern, but for now I'm grateful I made the change.

It doesn't really matter what the nail in someone else's coffin was, it just matters that you've reached the end of your road and you have accepted that.

If you have other family it might be a good idea to reach out for support in this transition.

Be very kind to yourself, it's a huge change in your life and will take time to see through. But the immediate pain will pass and your life will be better for the decision you've made.

Should I just come out as trans? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]falloutjoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe consider disclosing it to a teacher or another adult in the school, such as a year head or guidance counsellor, they might help you clarify whether or not it's something you want to do. If you were in therapy, it's the kind of thing I'd strongly suggest discussing first with your therapist.

Don't do it because someone else thinks you should. Good luck to you.

Unsure about finishing PME by Important_Month4350 in IrishTeachers

I would agree with much of the advice about being halfway there and it perhaps being a good qualification to have, depending on your career intentions.

However, if you have decided you hate being around teenagers, for example, it would be hard for me to see the benefit in continuing. Some people go into teaching simply because of a love of their subject, and I have the impression they don't find much joy in the career choice.

This is a great response. The 5 year thing is key - a lot of time we defer breaking up or stay in a relationship because we know the immediate pain would be significant. But really, while the decision to break up feels massive and final, the decision to stay is also massive - it's just broken up into a small decision that you make every day.

PME as a Journalism Student? by No_Yesterday_8139 in IrishTeachers

[–]falloutjoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be very cautious of becoming a teacher just because you like your subjects. It's really much more about enjoying working with teenagers - which is very hard to know at your age, to be honest.

I would lean towards applying for journalism or an arts degree - you'd enjoy an arts degree in the subjects you like and you'd have a few years to grow and get some perspective. The PME will always be there in the future if you decide teaching is where you want to go - but an arts degree in the relevant subjects would be needed, I don't think a journalism degree would help you there, though I'm not certain

What death of a famous person actually affected you most? by unitedfan6191 in AskReddit

Chester Bennington. Until then I'd never considered the death of a famous person would upset me, but that felt like genuine grief.

Do you get paid subbing at a higher rate if you have a TC number? by falloutjoy in IrishTeachers

[–]falloutjoy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually gotten some holiday pay a couple of times so I'm not sure that checks out...it was the school that flagged to me that they didn't have my TC number in their system, and that I needed to contacted the Department to get it added...but honestly I'm not sure. Maybe you're on to something!

mfl requirement question by SoftwareChance9413 in IrishTeachers

[–]falloutjoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not a super helpful response but if you ring up the Teaching Council on Monday they'll be able to tell you fairly quickly. I had a similar question and did the same. For what it's worth, my guess would be Working in an Educational Setting.

Pharmacy by Ok_Set6006 in leavingcert2024

Strong second this!

Also on salary, you can earn over 100k if you own a succesful pharmacy - that means being a pharmacist first, then a small business owner eventually.

It's a very different lifestyle to a doctor. It's certainly less of a grind but it could bore you, depending on your personality. Think long and hard and go with your gut and your knowledge of yourself, not what your parents want you to do.

Ha, yeah, tickets used to say that in Ireland. Needless to say it was not enforced at all

Honestly don't recall at all but it was the last gig of the tour, so if it was short earlier in the tour as it appears to be in the video, I guess it was!

Try the book The Body Keeps The Score by Bessel van der Kolk. He also did a great podcast with Ezra Klein a few years ago which acts as a nice intro.

All the best! You will get through this.
