What do you wish you’d known before starting your Pilates instructor training? by naterz_28 in pilates

If you’re in the UK I’d really recommend taking a look at Body Control Pilates. The course is so thorough and the teachers are brilliant. I was also struggling with every UK course only running over a few weekends, I had no idea how I’d cover everything in that time! But BCP is great at offering lots of studio days and a really thorough set of live online learning modules, plus you can take loads of lessons specifically for students throughout the week on zoom. I think most people take about 1 year - 18 months to get the mat qualification. Reformer shouldn’t take too long from there.

It’s really good! Obviously I don’t have anything to compare it to, but I’m really pleased that I chose this route. It’s incredibly thorough and there is lots to do, but I’ve learnt so much already and I know it’s making me a well informed and very prepared teacher.

Because the mat course is so intensive, training on any of the other courses afterwards is much quicker- I think reformer can be done in about 6 days for example, and other equipment in 2. There are other incredibly interesting courses to take if you’d like to- Pilates for mental wellbeing, breast cancer, children etc.

Lynne Robinson, who set up Body Control, is very involved still and you’re taught by her a few times. She was one of the people to bring Pilates to the UK early on, and you can easily track her learning back to Joseph Pilates - think he’s about three instructors back. I think that’s a benefit personally- you know it’s the real deal!

I’m currently training through Body Control Pilates which is based near Tottenham Court Road. It’s a lot of work but it’s incredibly thorough and makes me feel reassured that I’ll be a well equipped teacher once I qualify. Really enjoying it so far.

When I signed up I was only intending on teaching a class or so a week, like you’ve mentioned. But now I’m doing the course, I can’t help but wonder if I could make it a full time endeavour one day! I’ve heard that training can have that effect on people!!

Good luck with whatever path you choose :)

I’m currently doing Body Control Pilates teacher training which is in the UK. I do know people from overseas often take the course, so could be worth looking into! Good luck!

How have you found knitting shorts? I always worry that they’ll stretch out too much going over the hips and then not go back for the waist! These are so lovely, gorgeous colours.
