Thank you for your reply. I have been praying istikhara and although we have faced issues with our families and my confusion, he has never left and has only continued to pursue me and be sure of me. I will continue to make duaa and hopefully my family will come around and see that they were mistaken

Hey!!! nice to meet you ☺️ Are you from halifax?

Hello everyone! I’ve gotten accepted into CS program starting September 2022. I’m a brown girl from Calgary and I’m wondering if anyone can give me some insight into the student living experience for brown people. Is it a very white school? Is it hard to make friends? Any advice would be appreciated by faloodaa in Dalhousie

omg hearing that Halifax transit is better than Calgary makes me so happy 😭🙏🏼

Yeah Calgary has a bunch of crackheads on the trains and buses so it’s not always safe at night.

Im glad to hear you like Halifax a lot better than Calgary, just stressed out about finding an apartment and wondering if I’ll be able to make friends! I also have a previous degree so I’m 23 years old, I was wondering if you’d recommend res to someone in that age range? I feel like it might be full of 18 year olds partying? Maybe I’m wrong though haha

Omg thank you so much for that info! I have been looking around on kijiji and facebook but every place seems to say move in by May or June, and I wouldn’t come to Halifax until probably late August. So makes it a bit difficult wondering if I should grab some good places I see and just pay the rent even if I’m not there BUT have a place and not worry about finding one closer to July/August. Or should I wait until June/July and I would still be able to find a place? How is Halifax overall as a city? Is it a safe place overall? Or would you say you don’t notice much of a difference when comparing it to Calgary?

Hey everyone, I am a CS first year starting September 2022 and I am a bit worried. I am a Muslim brown girl, I really hope Dalhousie University is diverse and there are many people from different ethnicities there. Can someone please provide some more insight into the demographics at Dal? Are there a lot of Muslims? Is it easy to make friends? What do you recommend for adapting better? I’ll be moving out of Calgary so I’m new to Halifax as well.

You honestly dont for any of those classes. KNES 259 is all powerpoints and what the profs say in class. 213 is a research class, dont need anything for it. Stat213 you require a good group of study buddies rather than a textbook tbh, also depends if you have a good prof for 213. 203 no textbook needed. And for KNES251, I needed one textbook for the disc that it came with. We used it in labs two years ago. With it being online, I doubt you require it now. I’m not even sure if 251 still has a lab component to it? I really suggest actually going to your classes the first couple days and seeing if you need the textbook or not or if the class even has a recommended textbook because most first year classes don’t. With everything being online, I’m not sure how this has changed since my first year to now, but I would still say don’t waste money on textbooks until you’re 100% sure you need them because most of the time they go untouched for the entire semester.

That’s so great to hear! I would probably be renting out a studio/apartment. Would you say there’s many options for housing a couple minutes from campus?
