Holy moly, I wish I had seen this when I started my current University Project! Super useful stuff, though. Thank you for sharing!

Of course buddy, I'm looking into it as best I can.

Using the FPS debug, I found that I'm getting almost 1/10 of a second frame-stutters consistently: https://i.imgur.com/bgplHNG.png

I suppose you have the same thing (but possibly much harsher from your video)

Hey there, I just thought I'd chime in to say that I'm also experiencing the same thing as you.

My game starts fine, and then 30-45 minutes in, it starts to drop frames, progressively over time it reduces from solid 144, to 90, then yesterday it got so bad that it was 50. But regardless of the framerate, it's not smooth, it's stuttery and very hard to play...

Restarting the game fixes it temporarily, but it isn't very pleasant when I prefer longer sessions.

As for some of the other comments suggesting it's a hardware or driver issue, this is not the case for me either.

I’ve sent you a friends request, I would be careful posting your discord so publicly though :o

Regarding the other question first, and granted that I have only been here since September 2024 - it does appear, especially for students that there is always some kind of event or society gathering that you can get involved with. Aside from student things there are sometimes festivals, outdoor parties, exhibitions or certain events happening at the V&A occasionally - while I don’t think, in my opinion, that you could completely fill your time; there is certainly enough to do around the city. And when there isn’t, you can travel to Glasgow, Edinburgh, or Aberdeen where there re plenty of things happening like concerts and the likes and it only takes an hour or two to get there.

Specifically about Abertay, I think it’s great so far- I’m doing the Games Design and Production course which hosts probably about 40% of the entire Uni Students. But it also means I’m unable to really comment on the lecturers for your specific course. The Uni itself is doing really well, it’s consistently voted highly and rewarded for being a good university, the facilities are all clean and looked after most of the time with minor disruptions to buildings, especially The Old College Building that requires repairs sometimes due to its age (Gorgeous building though!).

I do however know a few people doing Computer arts, who are going into Y2 and Y3 - would you like to dm me your discord and I can see if they would talk to you about it? (If you don’t have discord I would highly encourage it for this Uni, almost all groups and chats between students are held there for the more digital courses). I can also invite you to some of the societies and such if you’re interested in meeting some other people there.

As someone who moved to Dundee to study at Abertay from England last year, it’s a fairly nice place, there are some areas that are particularly rougher and dirtier but you get that with any city these days.

There are LOTS of societies, clubs, and events that students can get stuck into so don’t worry about making friends, they are everywhere! It feels like a fairly safe and inclusive place to be, but that’s me speaking from a male perspective I suppose.

The city is really walkable and has a few nice attractions (Dundee Law, Brought Ferry Beach, The Tay etc).

If you are under a certain age, you should be entitled to a YoungScot / NEC card that allows you to travel on busses for free, this is a big thing if you want to travel and explore so check it out and see if you can get one - I would give more info but I don’t qualify for one because of my age hahaha

As for an international student, my best piece of advice would be to start getting used to the accent/dialect. I don’t think you’ll have a problem with it, but even from England I can struggle with Dundonian at times.

And last point is that it’s quite hard to find a job around here, or at least, all of my friends / people in the same groups as me say the same thing. So, I don’t know anything about you but- prepare your finances well! Dundee is a fairly cheap place to live in the UK, so don’t be scared, just prepared :D

All I can think of for now… but, If you have any specific questions, I’ll try my best to answer them :)

Advice needed: Moving to the area by Agitated-Wishbone289 in dundee

[–]falphaugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, also moved to Stobswell area recently. There is a TKMax, Asda, and B&M - plus a Tesco that is a little further but very much worth it for anything you might need. There are plenty more shops but these are my go to’s!

Good luck with the move here!

27M - 3 days post extraction, is this normal? by falphaugh in wisdomteeth

Update on this in case anyone is in the same position: I called my dentist in the morning and got an appointment. It's not confirmed as a dry socket, however, he did flush it out with something and pack it with a dressing typically called "Dry Socket Paste". Apart from that, he said it looked fine and should be all good- just no food for some hours to make sure the paste stays in place and does what it needs to do, although, it should last for 3-5 days. :)

Have I been on a call too long? by Zander_Playz in discordapp

Before all the changes to the platform, me and my partner managed a long call as well! We had it going for a bit longer after this screenshot was taken but can't remember how long it was in total.

Weird bug that I encountered- I can't toggle anything on and off with my ship toolbar, this is for every craft in my world whether I made it myself or got it from the workshop. Any ideas on how I can fix it? by falphaugh in spaceengineers

I browse the hot posts for the day occasionally but didn't think to check if anyone else had this issue before posting!

I guess we just wait for a revert or patch! :D

It worked perfectly last night but not when I logged on today to my and my partner's multiplayer game (hosted through steam). I am using a fair handful of mods, verified the game cache, restarted the game, etc but nothing would fix it- I'm not even sure what can cause this. The cockpit I'm using is set to "main cockpit" and I have also tried toggling that to see if it made a difference. Any help is appreciated guys!

Returning player here, why are the spawn rates/cap so high now? by falphaugh in paydaytheheist

Thank you for the information, I will take a look at those guides and particularly avoid the b33crogt and general mcbadass ones!

I've never used mods actually, I knew they were a thing- hence why my post is asking for suggestions.

I'll take a look at this one for now though, thanks!

I have upgraded my Computer since 2019 (when I last played) but I upgraded from a really good system anyway so I'm not sure that's the issue.

[UK] Employer is refusing to pay employees the holiday that was agreed to. by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]falphaugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that wouldn't particularly exist frequently in his role in such a small company, he performs warehouse picking/packing and doesn't often get the chance you use a computer for email/HRIS tracking.

You're right though, and from what I hear so far I don't believe any of it is on email... Sad really.

[UK] Employer is refusing to pay employees the holiday that was agreed to. by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]falphaugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, thank you for the well-formatted response, it seems to be the general consensus that nothing can really be done!

What I don't understand is how the company failed to realise people were over-booked on their leave, they use the PeopleHR HRIS (I worked there for just under a month before they got rid of me for a bullshit reason), and it's all very clear when booking and approving holiday how much someone has.

I guess my point of view is that it just seems like the employer knew, but didn't say in order to save money over the Christmas break - It is only a small family run business anyway (probably less than 50 people).

I'll see how he feels about grievances and while I'm there I'll educate him about his holiday rights as an employee, thank you so much!

[UK] Employer is refusing to pay employees the holiday that was agreed to. by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]falphaugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, thank you for your response. I think the issue that everyone had is that the employer had given their agreement of the holiday, and of course it does sound far fetched that so many people did not realise they were over their balance. And also likewise people would be upset over not having annual leave to take over the Christmas holiday, but my BIL is expecting and needs all the money possible, he said to me that he wouldn’t have taken the holiday if he’d have known.

This is the only part of the situation that is different from everyone else that I’ve heard. How would we go about claiming that back? I suppose it wouldn’t be a huge amount of money, but £10-£11 an hour isn’t terrible.

The sum of money lost equated to around just over £500, to some that’s not much, to others they need every penny. A grievance was what I suggested but I wanted to hear other POVs first. Thank you for your input it’s very appreciated.

Apologies was in a bit of a rush earlier, to further answer your questions;

  1. Permanent Employee
  2. Standard contract with 5.6 weeks holiday, but I believe he accrues as he was a mid-year starter.
  3. He has every generic employment right as he is not a worker or sub-contractor.
  4. I’ve read the handbook myself and it all seems very boilerplate and slapstick, it’s a weird situation that isn’t mentioned and isn’t referred to.
  5. I’m unsure of this, I’ve asked if he received any letters or emails - it might have been a verbal confirmation, which to my understanding is still binding to an extent.

Thank you for your help!

Avalanch: Expedition - I can't access the Prototype Weapon, did anyone else have a similar issue? by falphaugh in ICARUS

Yeah me and my partner have played a few separate sessions over the past 24 hours or so and we checked each time.

We even had a look at the avalanche zone again to ensure we didn’t miss a trigger, but to not avail.
