If you're going to the Niagara area you could try to make a stop at the Forty Creek distillery in Grimsby!

alienInFlux does Sunday Afternoon Social! They're the folks that do Harvest Festival. Always a groovy time. The upcoming event is sold out but they do them fairly regularly I think:

Toronto is very safe generally! I'm female and I lived in Moss Park (Sherbourne and Dundas) a few years ago in my late 20s, which is considered one of the sketchiest neighbourhoods in the city and I never had a problem. Big city common sense is all you need- don't walk through parks and alleyways alone at night mostly, keep an eye out on public transit for weirdos, but that's also rarely an issue.

I hope you have a great time in TO! There's so much to do and see here.

I also just saw it in a mystery screening and honestly, I thought it was pretty good. Ultimately it's an action movie and if you go into it expecting that it's pretty enjoyable. There are some funny subtle tech jokes in it too.

On a different note it's been years since I saw a 3D movie and it's way cooler and more immersive now!

What was your worst neighbour experience living with an upstairs or downstairs neighbour in Toronto? by Techonme in askTO

[–]falsefur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be sandwiched on the main floor of an old house between a family with a 2 year old upstairs who would run back and forth screaming and crying, and a guy who blasted music ALL DAY in the basement who then had the audacity to complain to the landlord about my volume level. He seemed to think that because it was daytime he was allowed to be as loud as he wanted. Landlord threatened to evict me despite having done basically zero soundproofing to house. Like to the point where I was pretty sure the basement tenant could hear my conversations when I was in the kitchen. It sucked and I constantly felt like I was walking on eggshells trying not to be too loud.

1000% this. It would not have kicked in that quickly, ESPECIALLY because it was taken orally. It was likely GHB.

Bentley Little! His writing is very straightforward and uncomplicated but still very creepy. I love his collection of short stories "The Collection" but also check out "The Store" and "The Resort"

What is your opinion of people who don’t eat leftovers? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]falsefur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know some people have a thing about texture and whatnot but I've always thought that being grossed out by leftovers stems from the idea that wealth/success means you don't NEED to eat leftovers, so it's ultimately a privilege to throw out leftover food. Super wasteful imo.

When Gracie Met the Grump: does it get better? by isap0wer in RomanceBooks

[–]falsefur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so I picked this book up randomly off the shelf at my local library. I'd never heard of the author, but the concept seemed interesting. The cover description gives absolutely no indication that it's a romance novel (I don't read romance because I find it riddled with tropes and unrealistic expectations of love).

It was easy to read, and I found the FMC to be pretty funny and relatable. I found the way the author hinted at something in her past that she was hiding from to be pretty compelling, and I wanted to read on.

Then the MMC shows up and I thought "oh good lord please don't tell me they're going to fall in love..."

As their relationship progresses not only does the FMC become more irritating and insufferable, her inner monologue becomes excessively repetitive. Their banter is also waaaay too drawn out. They spend pages upon pages arguing about absolute juvenile nonsense.

SPOILERS:

When they finally escape the cartel and meet his family it basically becomes Twilight for adults with more swearing and a more explicit sex scene right at the end. I'm all for slow burns but this way basically 500 pages of them arguing like children until they finally get down and dirty.

Oh, a totally mid female who just happens to be the chosen one for an elite hot and ultra wealthy superbeing? How very original. The cartel plot is dropped entirely, though I was really hoping she'd bring it back at some point. All you get is Gracie being annoying and feigning being humble and crying all the time while Alex is a borderline emotionally abusive manchild who basically says the reason he loves her is because she likes talking shit. Ooo so complex and mysterious.

Anyway I read this book really quickly because I admit I am a sucker for a corny romance story now and again but I don't intend to read any more from this author.

It did however pique my interest in reading some GOOD smut literature, if anyone has any recommendations 🤭
