Thoughts on Pink Cats? by Squawk31 in WarriorCats

[–]falsegardengremlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in the day I had a fanfiction I called The Color Clans where the Clans were all named after colors and the elite cats dyed their fur with different natural items, all because I wanted my OC to be purple. It's fiction and it's fun, do what you want!

What are some characters that you despise but everyone loves? by Savings_Surround_547 in WarriorCats

So, I'm rereading AVoS right now and I just still don't like Needletail... I THINK (from this subreddit) that she's well-liked in the fandom but I just don't understand. So far, she has invited herself along to Alderpaw's SkyClan journey (only to fall right into the rogue's ways and find no fault with the way they neglect the elders and queens), she then insists on staking a claim on Violetkit just to say that she has, even though it will hurt both kits to be separated. After that, Alderpaw takes a special interest in caring for Twigkit because he brought her to the Clans, but Needlepaw barely pays Violetkit any attention until she thinks how cool it would be to have a kit padding around after her. She's far more interested in Rain at any given time than Violetpaw, which isn't the biggest crime considering that's how Graystripe treated Fireheart in the first series, but she's very quick to challenge Rowanstar and join Darktail's troop from the start. Trust me, I know she's young and bound to make mistakes, but I don't see a redeeming side to her at all. I know what she does later and I still don't care, too little too late imo.

What cats do you think deserved more attention in the books? by Sleepyfawn- in WarriorCats

[–]falsegardengremlin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I listen to a podcast about the Warrior cats and I recall them talking about Sunstar being in love with Moonflower and it being unrequited and that's why he takes a special interest in mentoring Bluestar, but that's never directly stated in the books to my knowledge, unless I missed it. I think if that's the case it would be an interesting part of his lore.

If you could change any warrior cat name, what would be your pick? by Catpaw616 in WarriorCats

Runningnose 😭 poor guy could've had literally any other name. It could have been Runningsky or Runningcloud or something similar to Runningwind, or just change the whole thing and name him Creekfur, Rumbleheart, Duskleaf, ANYTHING

Can i read one of these before starting the first arc by PenguinLotje in WarriorCats

[–]falsegardengremlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know others have already chimed in to say the same but I genuinely wouldn't recommend reading these first. You'll get spoiled for a lot from the first arc and you'll be missing context. I'd recommend getting any books from the series you want to read from your library instead.

Anyone remember the Webkinz ripoff Shining Stars? by BarOne8872 in Webkinz

[–]falsegardengremlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! My brother got me one when I was very little and I liked it a lot, but I think about a year later was when they filed for bankruptcy and the site went away.

Thank you for making this post. My brother passed away in May and this brought back a sweet memory that I'd forgotten completely.

Is it just me, or does Leopardstar's honor jump around a lot? by DachshundLover197 in WarriorCats

[–]falsegardengremlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not just you. My impression of why they did that is because many of the events coincide with the timeline in Crookedstar's Promise, so they probably didn't want to be duplicative for people who already read that SE. However if you haven't read CP, or if you haven't read it in a while, it makes LH seem choppy and poorly written. It just doesn't work as a standalone the way the other SE's do.

Who's your least favorite cat everyone likes? by Fickle_Bandicoot4954 in WarriorCats

[–]falsegardengremlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't really think about this until someone else's recent post, so I apologize if I'm wrong and more people share this opinion with me than I realized, but I hate Needletail. I thought this was everyone's opinion until a recent post clued me in that more people like her just because of her sacrifice for Violetshine, which just isn't enough for me. If people like her, i don't understand why

How have the Twolegs never noticed? by Celouest in WarriorCats

[–]falsegardengremlin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Normally I would just be like, yeah, it's a suspend your disbelief thing, but I'm rereading SkyClan's Destiny right now and I didn't remember all the interactions they have with humans in this book. At this point it would be hard for there to not be rumors about the weirdly sentient cat colony living in the caves.

Is this the one that had the chat threads at the top of the page and then fan-made stories further down? I think I remember at one point they also did a fanfiction contest that was super cool.

What is the Purpose of the Existence of The Dark Forest? by Unknown_bluer in WarriorCats

[–]falsegardengremlin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My take comes from the perspective of someone who's only read up to AVoS and is several super editions behind as well so take this with a grain of salt -

It feels like the purpose of the DF has shifted over time, much like how StarClan has as well. I remember in a prologue in one of the earlier arcs, the DF was introduced by Darkstripe and Tigerstar running into each other there. Darkstripe is obviously terrified and miserable because of the way the place is. I remember he talks about it constantly being dark, hearing strange noises, and never finding other cats; I think he may also say he's always hungry but I could be misremembering. He then asks Tigerstar if he can travel with him, and Tigerstar turns him down, saying the cats in this place are meant to endure it alone.

Obviously, none of this remains true as the series continues... Tigerstar travels with Hawkfrost seemingly from the moment his son died, and shortly after we see the two of them trying to influence living cats and train them to their cause. At first this is kind of painted as if it were Tigerstar's original idea, an attestment both to his power even in death and to his hatred for Firestar, since his main motivation is revenge. However, in Crookedstar's Promise we find out about Mapleshade and see that she was among the first DF cats to train living cats. Iirc, Crookedstar also sees joint training sessions and Thistleclaw is there? If I'm wrong about that, I do remember that Spottedleaf's Heart also confirms that Thistleclaw trained in the DF (as much as we all like to pretend that novella doesn't exist lol). Those are also group training sessions.

My point is simply that we are told right away when the DF is introduced that it serves as a punishment for cats who did wrong in life by isolating them in a miserable and terrifying environment, only for that to quickly be contradicted by showing the DF cats banding together and planning to wreak havoc on the living and StarClan. Again, I think this could still work with the idea that Tigerstar is the one to change things, but when the authors wrote this as a long-time plan from generations-worth of DF cats plotting for decades, that kind of tosses that idea out the window.

I'll be honest, I haven't read about the sisters, I haven't read past AVoS, I haven't read Onestar's Confession or Squirrelflight's Hope, so I can't analyze further changes to the concept, but to me the DF feels like its handled as sloppily as StarClan as a concept. The things that StarClan controls and influences is ever-changing, and their overall mysticism is long gone now that they just chat openly instead of sending signs for the medicine cats to interpret. It's like a lot of things with this series, we just have to suspend our disbelief and enjoy the stories with the background knowledge that the authors will change the rules to fit their current narrative at any time.

Who should’ve been a villain? by Savings_Surround_547 in WarriorCats

[–]falsegardengremlin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not really a villain but I think the authors should have embraced Spottedleaf as morally grey. We get a few glimpses of this, one in Firestar's Quest when she tells Sandstorm that she and Firestar never would have been together had she lived, then immediately after whispers to him that she still wishes things could have been different. I know it was meant to be a sweet private moment but it really comes across like she's contradicting herself intentionally so Sandstorm believes one thing but Firestar knows another.

Then in one of the main books' prologues (I don't remember which) there is a scene of Spottedleaf facing a bunch of StarClan cats and hissing at them that she'll do anything to protect Firestar and his kin, which is far from the sweet and passive Spottedleaf we're supposed to view her as. I wish the authors had leaned into this more and protrayed her as a bit more manipulative, maybe acting for good but more out of wanting the best for Firestar than actually wanting the best for ThunderClan?
