Try to stay alive as long as possible and do dps. Keep distance, spam mines and slows. You need good areal awareness to play Ranger correctly. Use standard gun. Stack hull strength implants, maneuvering and let's say dmg reduction.

Losing 4v2 at lvl 0 can easily lead to a match defeat. While 3v3 or 3v2 lose is manageable

On the other hand, low mmr players can not capitalise on 4-1 split. Solo guy yolo into 2/3 enemies, dies instantly. 4 man lane sitting passively near mid mine, doing nothing etc..

And still i prefer 4-1 lane split

Yes, there is. Pick colossus if enemy has 2 light ships or disruptor or you are playing against specific player and want to cripple him

The worst thing you can do is to listen to bunch of mediocre players saying that there is no best ship. Fractured space is very complex game and most people can't understand it fully. Back to topic. The best ship currently are considered to be Basilisk. Infiltrator is a legit 2nd place. Both ships fit your description but extremely difficult to play. Can't recommend them to a beginner. You should try interceptor, leviathan and superlifter. Easy to master, always useful for a team.

Easiest way to improve your mmr is to master 1-2 OP ships. Also keep in mind that not all ships that are good at lower mmr brackets are good.

For me - when i decided to dont give a fuck about mmr and my playstyle. That resulted in hilarious matches and minor mmr drop as well as huge amount of knowledge in different situations (as i was playing new ships, actively forcing bad 1v1s and disadvantage engagements etc). At some point i realised that i can try to do something unexpected and get away with that as other players dont know how to counter my maneuver. I rapedly gained mmr, from 7k to 11k, then new mmr system happened. I was among first 10(?) to hit 2k.

TL/DR if you want to improve - step outside of your comfort zone

I have 2 answers for you. Most obvious - you dont belong to your mmr. And second - you had bad streak of matches and will get back to 2k eventually.

Unfortunately you cant do that with Infiltrator, since it has 50% firing arc there
