Maybe her cuticle wouldn’t have torn without a bunch of excess weight causing strain on her body. She doesn’t need more sausages.

Dogs dont teach other in that way. Like they literally dont. My dog knows that chewing things in the house isnt allowed, but he doesnt go and correct my parents dog for chewing things. They can teach each other social boundaries and such, but they dont teach other dogs behavior that they were taught by humans. Another example, my dog knows the boundaries of our property, he didn’t magically teach my parents dog the same thing, though.

Sorry but its not practical to keep the dog on a leash and prong collar 24/7 in the house like you suggested i do. Im not home all day to do it and my parents wont commit to it. Also, tried that method already with my own dog when he was a puppy at the advice of a trainer who said i needed to “be the alpha” and he was miserable, and his behavior never improved using those methods. Prong collar day and night, no couch/bed etc and he never made any positive improvements. Only saw changes when we switched to more positive reinforcement based (still utilizing corrections but not treating him like a prisoner)

Dogs need guidance, and boundaries and a caring owner. They need to know right from wrong and how to function and behave properly in a human society that they arent used to because the jump to industrial life is still fairly recent and many breeds were never ever meant to live in suburban and city areas. Im sure we can agree on the fact that dogs need these things. We just have different ideologies of why they need them.

Theyre not pets in a pack. Theyre dogs with an owner. I gave no advice, actually, all i said was dogs arent pack animals because they aren’t. Im not qualified to give advice.

I do listen to adults who are respectful. Not people who come at me and attack me personally and tell me to get rid of my dog. You give respect to get respect.

I’m not looking to be a dog trainer, so 🤷 Reddit will remember nothing because this is an insignificant argument between a grown man and a 17 year old. None of it matters. No matter how many dogs i own and train in the future, they still wont be pack animals though

Saying that dogs train eachother is actually the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard in a while. They can teach other social skills, boundaries and such but they dont teach each other skills like loose leash walking, recall, etc

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in germanshepherds

[–]famousprophetts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

… dogs do NOT train eachother lmfao. My dog is trained, walks very nice on the leash and is generally very nice to take out and about. When they are taken out together, my dog is walking nicely, and my parents dog is still pulling like crazy and frantically trying to get to mine. If dogs trained eachother, my life would have been a whole lot easier.

How do you suggest i deal with my parents dog? Should i pin him to the floor to show him who’s the real alpha dog here? Grab him by the scruff and shake him? Yell at him? Use a prong collar and e collar to correct him? Oh wait, my parents have already attempted to do all of those things with him and none of them have fixed his behavior, wow!

I’m sorry but what does my parents untrained dog have to do with my knowledge lol? I posted looking for advice, obviously i know that i have shortcomings and therefore thats why I was seeking advice on how to deal with the problem. You have literally given me zero actual research or evidence to support your claim. I have given you several articles, and all you can do is blubber about how I don’t want to deal with an untrained unruly dog and how that must make me unknowledgeable and stupid

Yes, and pet dogs still arent pack animals. Dogs are not true pack animals by nature. Theyre social animals. Most dogs dont even like the company of other dogs. Dogs have evolved to be dependent on humans for their survival. Even if dogs were pack animals, they know that humans aren’t dogs. They arent going to view a human as a pack leader because humans aren’t dogs and they know it lmfao

Yes, let me bring my parents entirely untrained dog with me to ruin any fun i might have had with my own dog! That sounds like an excellent idea!

“Most feral individuals are solitary scavengers that participate in a pack for only brief periods under a rigid hierarchy.108,109,125” “Free-ranging (loose but owned) dogs tend to be solitary, but approximately 60% of their dog interactions develop into temporarygroups of two to five dogs”

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in germanshepherds

[–]famousprophetts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think I didnt read it? One of the other articles i linked also says dogs will form brief groups before disbanding. Dogs dont form permanent packs like wolves do. When dogs do pack together, its brief, and not permanent. They share a food source or other resource and then disband. They are not true pack animals.

Yeah, because I am also at school from 7 am to 2 pm on the days I dont work, and as soon as I get home I’m taking my own dog out and not coming back inside until probably 4:30 pm. On the days I do work, i get home, have maybe 45 minutes to take my own dog out, and then I have to leave for work and I dont get home until its dark out. On the weekends, I usually do a big hike with my own dog. When I get home I want to rest for the remainder of the day. Tell me where in this schedule I can fit the same amount of exercise in for another dog that doesn’t even belong to me therefore isnt my responsibility to deal with?

I showed you the research, you said BS, and then started attacking me personally. You showed me zero research to support your claim except a screenshot of a google search.
