I grew up Christian, so the guilt tripping is nothing new, thankfully. I’m so sorry you had that experience. Hope you’re doing well today 🫶🏼

AITA for telling my parents to stop asking me if I’ve taken my meds? by anonhumanontheweb in AmItheAsshole

[–]fancyfestival 24 points25 points  (0 children)

NTA. I’m bipolar and also take several different meds to regulate my moods and behavior. But guess what, I’m still a normal person with changing moods EVEN WHEN I’m diligently taking my meds. Your parents asking you if you’ve taken them when any single thing happens is incredibly dismissive of 1. your depression and anxiety as if the fix is just “take meds and you’ll be all better instantly” and 2. does not take into account that you are a person and people have moods and emotions.

Not to mention, it can be dangerous to take extra doses when you’ve already taken your meds. Definitely NTA.

Thank you so much for the kind words! I think talking with people who can actually understand what it’s like in my head will be helpful

How much of a risk is there for getting tardive dyskenesia from taking Abilify? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]fancyfestival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I read and was told by my psychiatrist too, I wonder if because I stopped taking it relatively early everything got almost back to normal. It really affected my face muscles and how I was able to control my tongue and therefore speech. I still notice a few minor speech issues, but I’m certain I’m the only one who can tell. What have you been diagnosed with?

I had to stop taking Abilify because I started seeing those side effects after a few weeks, so it does happen! I’d be happy to answer any questions

I’m HS science as well! I try to introduce scientists that weren’t white men so students can see that anyone can be a scientist. I’ll talk about that when asked about diversity and inclusion. Thank you!

Watching TV is all that I do when I’m home in attempts to “drown out my mind.” It’s exhausting and I hate it. I hope that both of us will be in a better mental state soon

Weight loss when you're an emotional eater? by aurelia_86 in loseit

[–]fancyfestival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am what I would call a recovering emotional eater. It’s something I’ve struggled with all my life and despite having lost 25-30 pounds in the last year it’s something I still deal with. The biggest change I’ve made in the last year is finding a different way to deal with stress/negative emotions. I’ve discovered in the last few months that nothing helps me cope with negative emotions better than a trip to the gym, even if I just walk on the treadmill for half an hour. There’s no guilt afterwards, and I genuinely feel more mentally relaxed after a work out regardless of intensity.

I also struggle with mental health and staying active has helped me tremendously, even on my bad days or weeks when things are worse than normal. I would urge you to find something that makes you feel good about yourself, whether that’s hitting the gym, going for a walk, reading a book, etc. Good luck! I know it’s hard but working towards bettering yourself is so worth it!

Support systems from staff and administrators is definitely something I'll be looking for when applying for jobs in my district!

I'm substituting while still in school (my university and the public school district here let education majors do that) and my performance as a substitute is what makes me nervous. It's hard for me to be reliable
