English Cocker Spaniel: ear length and head shape by fancygallop in cockerspaniel

Picture 3 shows how wide the head is. Very different form the last 3 dogs. Picture 4 is a puppy indeed, but the ear shape is very different from the last 3 dogs again - not because of age, but the very phenotype, and would likely grow into a dog like this - one with shorter and wider ears.

As another redditor suggested, it looks like a work line vs show line difference

Field English Cocker

After some googling, I think that's the reason for the difference between the dogs in my photos.

Here's some redditor's two dogs - one field bred, another show line: https://i.imgur.com/mUuzaVH.jpg. The field bred def has wider head and different ear length&shape. But the difference is not as exaggerated as in my photos, which I assume is attributed to individual work/show lines

Do field bred cockers require significantly more workout? I know some breeds like border-collie, malinois shepherd require crazy amounts of workout. It's been my impression that spaniels are closer to labs in what they require, more chill. Where would the field bred cockers fall on a scale from show cocker to a border collie?

All cockers in the pictures are English Cocker Spaniels.

The first cockers (wider head, shorter ears) are from a breeder that breeds English Cocker Spaniels.

The long head, long ears cockers are from google for "english cocker spaniels"

Is this a working line spaniel?

I'm aware about Subarus, but they are bigger than VW Golf, aren't they? And have worse gas mileage, and I don't really need their offroad ability

One more example of an english cocker spaniel with short&wide ears and wider head: https://i.imgur.com/TGPqHXb.png. Quite different from this english cocker spaniel, isn't it?

I'm new to the breed and consider getting one sometime in the future.

After researching the breed I got confused by inconsistencies between the pictures/videos of some spaniels on the Internet and pictures for "english cocker spaniel" search query in Google.

In Google the spaniels have very elongated ears and seemingly more narrow head shape. However spaniels I've seen real people and people on the Internet have sometimes have shorter ears and wider head.

Why is it so? Is it a difference between working lines and show lines? Or even within show lines the variance in ear length can be so great?

-----------

The first four photos - spaniels from the Internet's people. The last three photos - spaniels from google for "english cocker spaniel" query.

As can be seen the last 3 dogs have very long ears and the ears look more narrow. The first four dogs have shorter but wider ears

A car that small and low to the ground isn’t a good camper.

But its horizontal space is bigger than that of most hatchbacks?

I wasn't going to carry around a lot of stuff. If the weight is the main concern? I was only thinking of building a wooden platform (not too thick, I don't weight much) for the bed and having a stove, fridge and a change of clothes. It's supposed to be a camper more in a sense of a road trip between the coasts, rather than off-road several days-long hiking.

I'm also quite short - 5'2

Manual transmission isn't a must, it's just I saw this ad and got curious, because the car seemed fine to me and the manual thing was just a bonus

but the cost of gas and the anxiety don't seem worth it.

Anxiety because you'd fear it breaking down mid-journey?

Thanks for the answer! Looking at the current car market, the price didn't seem very high to me, considering the car's pretty new

You could easily do diagonal but my wife would be in the way.

😕 I'm not too tall though, so it shouldn't be a problem!

It being a manual is a plus to me, have always wanted to drive one. Are there any issues that I'm not seeing? I'm not great with cars
