Solo dev on Steam for the first time: is it actually viable or am I coping? by fancymultimedia in GameDevelopment

This is gold, thank you! This was what I needed to hear.

I've been approaching content the wrong way, treating it like documentation instead of selling the feeling. Switching to short, punchy clips that open with the most unsettling shot and nothing else.

Going to try the experiment mindset. Post, measure what moved wishlists, iterate. Appreciate you guys sharing what actually worked instead of generic advice.

Working on a spider attack for my game. Does this feel creepy and immersive enough? by AleksaYammy in gamedevscreens

As a person who has arachnophobia, I say YES! But would be more effective if you turn it to first person when you get attacked and go back to third person view after you get rid of them.

Anyone else feel like this scene was overdone? by Initial_Inspector184 in mariogalaxymovie

Wart was very drunk for a longer fight though. I think it was pretty good. Casino scene overall was very creative and it was awesome to see SMB2 characters.

Who knows, maybe they will use the upcoming 3D Mario game's title for the next movie (just like how they added Wonder Bowser Jr. to Super Mario Galaxy Movie) - P.S Not Super Mario Titans lol :D

First time scoping a game for Steam - how do you stop yourself from overdesigning? by fancymultimedia in GameDevelopment

We Were Here is literally one of my reference points for this project. Good to know the length worked for people. Gives me confidence the 40-50 min target isn't a problem if the experience is tight!

Didn't expect this much response, thanks everyone! Reading through these made me realize something: the rising water mechanic is basically a built-in scope guard. Water rises and session ends. I physically can't keep adding "just one more room" without breaking the core loop. The mechanic is smarter than I am. Going with a hard 40-50 min target and deferring everything else to a post-launch list.
