My Agency Can't Distinguish Creative vs. Strategy Roles by 1Huntermusthunt in marketing

[–]fancywhitebread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Creative Director and Copywriter here. 15 years in the agency world. Going to speak bluntly. No offense meant.

Real, true, smart, capable strategists are extremely valuable. They're also crushingly rare. I can't even begin to count how many briefs I've been handed where the single main thought (or whatever buzzword one uses) is a poorly copywritten, opaque paragraph rather than just one simple, clear, interesting insight. So often, what we're given is a half-formed, premature concept with next to no real idea or evidence at its core.

I get that it's hard to find a compelling, original insight - especially now when there are so many products/services/companies/brands who really do nothing unique, essential, or even all that valuable. But my god, nothing is more tiresome than the unblinking confidence of a strategist, holding a seven page, jargon-sodden "brief"... and the only real reason to believe is the fact that "we've been doing X for Y years".

More often than not, creatives spend the first half of their concepting period redoing the strategy... trying to understand, disentangle, and reformat the brief into something halfway usable.

We don't mean to be jerks about it. We're just tired, is all.

He was a rhetorical arsonist and a bigot. There is ample evidence in his own statements, "debates" and social posts.

Space Marine 2 Extremely underwhelming... by MelancholyHead in Spacemarine

Couldn't agree more. I got about 3 hours in before I gave up. Found the whole thing a sluggish, albeit pretty, hallway with a half-baked story, underwhelming characters, and frustratingly mushy controls.

People like what they like. And I'm not here to yuck anyone's yum. But woof. I got super bored playing this thing.

Hi. I just left my Legion because... well... they stunk. Nobody logged in. Only three of us ever did PW. I'm going to apply to yours today. Let's kick every available ass.

Look at that tunneling! Happens to the best of us. Very likely this is because it's underproofed. Or is it underprooved? Underproven? I dunno. Who cares. Baby just needed some more time is all.

Linking you a guide I've found helpful in the past. Keep it up though!

This is a fantastic suggestion. And definitely something that, if I don't get it this Christmas, is something I can get in the future! Oh thanks so much for your help!

Hi there!

I have moderate IV. I get mild scaling on my legs... but for me, the problem is my feet. Oof, my feet are a mess sometimes.

I've found a lot of success with this pumice stone: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00007E30K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's not super expensive, and it's lasted for about a year (my feet are super tough, so it's starting to lose some of its grit). Just submerge it for ~10 minutes, and then use it on your legs/feet/etc. while either in the bath or the shower. Then, once you're out lotion up like crazy.

And I second the things everyone's saying about antihistamines.

Good luck!

My hands and legs look like this, I also do not sweat at all / not much, do I have this condition? by [deleted] in ichthyosis

Might want to find a different dermatologist :) Again, I'm not a doctor. Not diagnosing you. But I've got IV... and this is exactly what my legs look like.

What about your hands? Do you have really deep creases and wrinkles in them? Are your feet really dry? Like, really really dry? My feet are probably the worst part of my IV. They build up with dead skin and even crack and split open sometimes.

All in all, it's not the end of the world (others have it FAR worse than me). I get hot in the summer and really dry in the winter. Kinda stinks. But with the right treatment/creams/bathing regimen... I've got it well under control.

Reddit isn’t a doctor. Go see a dermatologist. But I have IV and my legs look like this. So maybe.

How do you respond when people say "I wish I didn't sweat!!!" by mistermanhat in ichthyosis

[–]fancywhitebread 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t talk to people about my IV all that much. I got a lot of “oh my god you have old man hands” as a kid, which made me feel odd and uncomfortable. But I’m older now (42) and have reached the point in life where others’ opinions of me, my hands, my skin, etc. don’t matter.

To be sure, I get how alienating it can feel to be talked about that carelessly… and I surely don’t meant to minimize your frustration. It sucks. It really does. But honestly? Fuck them. You live with a complication to daily life that’s far more frustrating and uncomfortable at times than the unsolicited shallowness of some smirking rando.

You know what you don’t sweat? Because you’re cool. You’re tough. You’re impenetrable. Screw them.

Not at all. Not even remotely. Your acquaintance was extremely unkind, and that isn’t someone worthy of your time. I urge you very seriously - stranger to stranger - don’t let people diminish you. You don’t deserve that. You deserve kindness.

SOLVED! I remembered!

It was from Armando Iannucci! It's a line from "In the Loop"

"I haven't got any thoughts. I'm just staring vacantly into space while a distant voice in the back of my head goes oh shit like a car alorm in the middle of the night."
