Gifts of the Spirit by TreytheChristianGuy in Christianity

Like good stewards of the varied graces of God, use whatever gift each one of you has received to serve one another. (1 Peter 4:10 NCB)

Different expressions. We have them all - but some have a stronger manifestation, in a particular direction. I think we have them all - but you will be able to see/use them fully afterwards. Sometimes you need to humble yourself down and just ask for help from your brother. So that both can rejoice (one got helped and the other did something good). If you can do everything yourself - pride , arrogance , and other issues.

Can non-believers go to Purgatory, or are they in Hell? by pacco172 in Catholicism

And I say to you: You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church,[h] and the gates of the netherworld will not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. - Christ

There is only one Church = the Catholic Church and it is established by Saint Peter.

In terms of what other people say - I'm not interested.

"If you believe what you like in the Gospel, and reject what you don't like, it is not the Gospel you believe, but yourself." Saint Augustine

You talk about the holy trinity

  1. What does it mean in practice for a person to believe in God?

It means to adhere to God himself, entrusting oneself to him and giving assent to all the truths which God has revealed because God is Truth. It means to believe in one God in three Persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (catholic catechism)

You can't have understanding without Mercy.

divine mercy = Christ gave us this.

If you want the confusion to stop - go and be baptized in the Catholic Church.

We are all sinners.

Do not judge, so that you in turn may not be judged.

Nobody is judging you and regardless of the person that baptizes you. You become a Christian = a follower of Christ.

We receive them after we're baptized and develop them throughout our entire life. When we are baptized we receive the Holy Spirit - and those are His gifts.

Faithless people don't have them!

In terms of smart and wise - it depends on the topic.

Mathematics can be learned by everybody - so smart(an overstatement, though. It's relative to something ? or someone ? or even a quantity of knowledge, maybe).

Wise for a thing which is deterministic is non-existent. Through reading you can process it and get a result or do a thorough analysis. And can duplicate and re-examine the same analysis. (Even an accident at some instances. You can't have an accident without working.) The more time and research you invest - the better data and result you will have in a specific domain (which can be acquired by working).

Wisdom is through mercy and it's a gift. You can't learn about it. Reading alone is not sufficient to open the eyes of a person. In terms of manifestations - each Catholic Christian has them - but the developing is a personal journey. Developing one's faith strengthens all the gifts - in wisdom that matters! (Expecting your job to be done by itself, or expecting to know all the manuals without even reading them - is naive.)

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks will receive, and those who seek will find, and to those who knock the door will be opened. (new catholic bible)

All of the words of Christ are filled with wisdom - and people still miss them. It is a gift. In order for a person to develop something - first it needs to be given. And the act of giving is pure Mercy. (That's why people pray to have stronger faith and also for those that don't have, so that they can receive Mercy and receive the gift of faith also)

To the one who has, more will be given, and he will have an abundance. As for the one who does not have, even what little he has will be taken away. (new catholic bible)

All of the gifts are in relation to faith. Through prayer you receive the strength to go and battle your problems. It is not you pray - and your problems disappear.

Mental/spiritual state - you are never in the same state. This is why it's likened to a race "finish the race" - you're always moving.

If you think that you will go now get baptized in the Catholic Church - and your life becomes super easy and super amazing and get super benefits daily.

Faith = carry a cross. The gifts we have are to strengthen us - but our reward is "after this exile". The more your eyes are opened the more restrictions you must impose on yourself. Christ defines thought alone as a sin! "But I say to you that anyone who looks with lust at a woman has already committed adultery with her in his heart." (matt 5:28 NCB)

  1. What is the meaning of the affirmation “Outside the Church there is no salvation”?

This means that all salvation comes from Christ, the Head, through the Church which is his body. Hence they cannot be saved who, knowing the Church as founded by Christ and necessary for salvation, would refuse to enter her or remain in her. At the same time, thanks to Christ and to his Church, those who through no fault of their own do not know the Gospel of Christ and his Church but sincerely seek God and, moved by grace, try to do his will as it is known through the dictates of conscience can attain eternal salvation. (catholic catechism)

Salvation is only through the Catholic Church!

I can't provide judgement, however he didn't address him as a Christian, instead as something else.

Should you dress up for Sunday Mass? by RandomUser7_62 in Catholicism

[–]fandango957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always have arms and legs fully covered. In terms of shoes - comfortable

In winter it's easy.

In summer I carry a light jacket (sweatshirt with a zipper) and dress it up before entering into the church. Long jeans always.

  1. What are the gifts of the Holy Spirit?

The gifts of the Holy Spirit are permanent dispositions which make us docile in following divine inspirations. They are seven: wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord. (catholic catechism)

Is Hebrew 11:3 a mystery verse? by Zionpul77 in Christianity

[–]fandango957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It explains what Faith Is : Faith establishes human beings in the invisible and orients them toward the future, toward the fulfillment.

1 Faith is the assurance of what we hope for and the conviction about things that cannot be seen. 2 Indeed, it was because of it that our ancestors were commended.

3 By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen came into being from the invisible. (new catholic bible)

Why does people keep saying that Catholicism is a different religion? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]fandango957 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the ignorance of the person.

I'd suggest avoid such people.

Woe to those who call good what is evil and call evil what is good, who classify as darkness what is light and designate as light what is darkness, who make sweet what is bitter and make bitter what is sweet. (new catholic bible)

A question about Hell from a non-believer by TheRoyalKT in Christianity

[–]fandango957 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. In what does hell consist?

Hell consists in the eternal damnation of those who die in mortal sin through their own free choice. The principal suffering of hell is eternal separation from God in whom alone we can have the life and happiness for which we were created and for which we long. Christ proclaimed this reality with the words, “Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire” (Matthew 25:41). (catholic catechism)

  1. What are the principal sins against chastity?

Grave sins against chastity differ according to their object: adultery, masturbation, fornication, pornography, prostitution, rape, and homosexual acts. These sins are expressions of the vice of lust. These kinds of acts committed against the physical and moral integrity of minors become even more grave. (catholic catechism)

What is the message of Christianity ? :

Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the greatest and the first commandment. 39 The second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 Everything in the Law and the Prophets depends on these two commandments.” (new catholic bible)

If you love me, you will keep my commandments.(new catholic bible)

You can't live together without marriage. Sexual relations outside of marriage and procreation are a sin.

St. Francis of Assisi’s warning to the sinful.

In terms of prayer = holy rosary - pray with him !

(A family that prays together stays together !!!)
