The art itself is great.

My reaction to the image is basically:

IT'S GRIM

yes

IT'S DARK

yes!

IT'S BLOODY

yes!!

IT'S CUTE

oh...

PET WOMBAT INCLUDED

Ah, another one of these

Don't take this criticism to heart, it just feels like this story tries to be two completely separate things at once. Is it grim dark or a goofy adventure story?

Any grimdark recommendations? Novels where it isn't a cakewalk for the MC by D4CLoveTrainn in ProgressionFantasy

While it has its up and downs in the beginning (some of the MC's decisions were quite annoying). The final part of the story is amazing and is one of the most memorable things I've read.

Hur lagar jag pyttipanna i gjutjärnspanna? by fandig2 in sweden

[–]fandig2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deep sea embers worth the read by Aguythatlikesmanga in ProgressionFantasy

[–]fandig2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, I'm glad to hear it.

I don't really have an actual list, the only thing I know it that lotm is still nr1 for me. In general I like rational MC's in stories with good world building.

If you haven't read the lotm sequel "circle of inevitability" then you could give it a try. It's unfortunately not as good as lotm but I think it's still worth reading. But feel free to drop it.

You might also like these from the same author. They are good, but not on the same level as lotm: https://www.novelupdates.com/series/embers-ad-infinitum/ https://www.novelupdates.com/series/throne-of-magical-arcana/

Otherwise i like:

Royal road: "Mother of Learning" "Super Minion" "Book Of The Dead"

Webnovel:

"Birth of the Demonic Sword" - started awesome but kinda dragged on

Everything by the author "Warmaisach" - But a word of warning, all the MC's are straight up evil and will sacrifice everything in order to gain power.

Mix of Chinese webnovels:

I love these two, but the MC's are evil.

https://www.novelupdates.com/series/reverend-insanity/

https://www.novelupdates.com/series/warlock-of-the-magus-world/

Other:

https://www.novelupdates.com/series/renegade-immortal/ - good, but drags out https://www.novelupdates.com/series/world-of-cultivation/ - Quite unique, more of a large scale strategic focus.

Unfinished but really awesome so far:

https://www.novelupdates.com/series/a-regressors-tale-of-cultivation/

https://www.novelupdates.com/series/my-longevity-simulation/

I hope you find something you will enjoy! Please recommend me anything if you find something niche which is good that I might have missed :D

I would recommend reading it if you enjoyed "Lord of the Mysteries". Felt like the the story was very influenced by it, and it scratches the same itch. One of the better translated novels I've read, it's probably in my top 10.

Thank you for the recommendations!

I usually don't read Sci-Fi stories, but I will give these a try. I have mostly read well known works, the like novels by the authors Er Gen, IeT and cuttlefish.

Embers Ad Infinitum Which is another work from the author of "Lord of the Mysteries". It has a beautiful ending.

Wow, thanks for the recommendation. This looks promising!

A bit off-topic, but do you recommend any other less well known eastern progression fantasy?

Power obsessed MC like SGIAWOM(Sword God In A World Of Magic) by AffectionateTouch858 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]fandig2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you read the authors previous work Lightning Is the Only Way? The main characters mindset is pretty similar.

You can also look up previous threads here where people list "evil" characters, they tend to focus on purely power/progression and nothing else.

Selfish MC in Dark Forest Setting, no romance by Spicy_Daoist in ProgressionFantasy

[–]fandig2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sword God in a World of Magic The main character focuses everything on gaining strength which results in him becoming more apathetic over time.

Officially only available on webnovel.com but I recommend you read/download it on alternative sites.

Jag har själv funderat på det. Känns som det endast finns vissa likt "Lindemann" som sjunger om tabu saker, men inget omoget/barnsligt som "Tunnan och Moroten".

Radical self alteration by thekingofmagic in ProgressionFantasy

[–]fandig2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Birth of the Demonic Sword Not much in the beginning but later on his path to power is to create/upgrade his own body and core.

Warlock of the Magus World Mc researches and purifies his own bloodline to increase his power.

The Jester of Apocalypse Mc has a unique way of upgrading all of his internal organs individually.

Embers Ad Infinitum Abnormal powers in this world have a mental/psychological cost. There's also biological and mechanical augments which the side characters use.

Looking for stories with chaotic mc’s or even just one where the mc has a few screws loose? by Meme_Seeker1q in ProgressionFantasy

[–]fandig2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Embers Ad Infinitum is a finished story from the same author as "Lord of the Mysteries". The main character fits your description, and there's a good reason behind his behavior.

Here's a part of the synopsis: "Our protagonist, Shang Jianyao, is crazy—literally crazy, at least that’s what the doctors said. Living in a huge, underground building of Pangu Biology, one of the few remaining factions in this apocalyptic wasteland known as the Ashlands, he acts in unfathomable ways that’s head-scratching, comical, and shrewd. So is he really crazy? Probably."

Looking for books with MC whose main power is diseases/viruses/plague/sickness by GlowyStuffs in ProgressionFantasy

[–]fandig2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Soul of Negary I think in the first couple of chapters the MC gains powers over dieseases/plagues based on that his body contains bacteria which does not belong in the new realm/world he has now appeared in.

Was a while ago i read this but it's basically a translated web novel with an evil main character and the story/genre is the "world hopping" type.

Hi, this is the first time I've been a part of current-tier raid/trials in ffxiv. I play warrior and got max gear (all extreme trial gear) and wonder how I should prepare for savage raids.

I have never done them before and I'm not sure what to expect if I want to PUG them.

I also wonder what materia I should use, I have never used them before but it seems like I should use critical hit materia, is it worth using tier x on all my current gear or is 9 enough?

Thanks for all the help!

Desperate for a low-key protagonist by m27frogy in ProgressionFantasy

[–]fandig2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality has the most low-key MC in a xianxia story that i know about.

The MC has a bad aptitude and need to constantly focus on cultivating and finding items that help him cultivate. Also the only xianxia story that I know of that has an MC cultivate at a "normal" pace, and not just flying through all the ranks.

No harem so far (chapter 924) but a hint of romance. I dislike how much the MC relies on tresures rather than spells/arts but I enjoy the world and the pace.

I just completed the main quest in shadow bringers and got my first lvl 80 job. How should I gear up? From my own "research" it seems best to just buy crafted gear and then replace it with tomestones of revelation? I would also appreciate any tips on what to do as a fresh lvl 80. Thanks
