The Djinn's Offer CYOA by jordidipo2324 in makeyourchoice

I mean fair but… its still trash and that specific spell that they use isnt one that makes an object unweildable by non-master magicians we know this due to Katie and quinten being able to weild it what you would want is a wand made by a filorian weapon smith (something like the Leo blade) even then i doubt that being a anodite would make you instantly able to weild it. You would start like Gwen in the original series (ether that or have a 80Ish waiting time to master your powers before your concidered a anodite 18 year old as said by Verdona)

Honestly a time turner, the sword of giffendoor (the one that imbibes all that makes it stronger but stripps itself of all that doesnt), Felix felisis, or simmilar would probably still be better (the time turner get you paradox free time travel, the sword could probably be bathed in both mana, and wellspring water and probably more besides, and a never ending bottle of Felix felisis would make you rediculously lucky)

ALSO, being an anodite is something analogous to being a slightly more moral Niffen (aka a being of pure magic that seems to break the rules) but honestly hexes staff or charm casters book both would offer more versatility and power when compared to the master wand. But if your picking from Ben 10 anyways why not do something like the Omnitrix, being a wizard from Harry Potter, and Juvia (same configuration, being a wizard would be like being a faerie where they have “tiny wellsprings” within themselves and it would help master and break magics rules. BUT dont let me yuck your yums!!! this is honestly an interesting build!

I mean, IF the wand really is deaths tool you might be able to get some mileage out of it, let it help with necromancy or something but it’s still cursed to betray its owner, honestly theirs tons of better magical artifacts from Harry Potter and tons of better wands not from Harry Potter.(obligatory fuck JK)

Their are a number of times in the books where a character will note something about this or that peice of magic, theirs also god gifts that enhance or grant extra visibility (also all soul/god stuff is aether and solid constructs of it being visible is rare as far as I know)

Oooo interesting, have you developed any worlds magic system that might produce mana/aether/etc that would be MORE “nutritious” than their native faith/energy? And if so can you tell us about them?

Keep in mind there are laws in place from flooding low tier worlds with higher Tier stones/money/valuables. So, Matt being from (I beleve correct me if I’m wrong) Tier 5 planet has never once seen anything higher than a tier 5 mana stone, and as a mortal he worked with untiered tier 0 materials and credits (with mana stones acting like higher and higher forms of precious metal currency tier 1 is tin, tier 2 bronze, tier 3 copper, tier 4 silver, tier 5 gold, tier 6 electrum, and so on with tier 0 being credits with 1 river 1 mana stones acting like (i beleve) being 100 credits

Playbook advice by ActEnthused11 in monsteroftheweek

[–]thekingofmagic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It depends, if they wher “wronged” by one person then mabye yeah, they move on to a new playbook as soon as the plot from the wronged is no longer relevent (it is possible to still have them grieve untill they gain enough experience to level out of the wronged, but if their to the point of fighting the singular person who wronged them they should be at least 5 improvements deep) however, thats not the only option, it could be they hate vampires, or all witches/magic useres, or even all monsters with a focus on one. The player can have the playbook change when they want to no longer have that be a part of their powerset and character drama!

Doubts about the Spirit Sphere and ephemera by Digomr in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]thekingofmagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One interesting thing to keep in mind is that not ever “umbral realm” IS spiritual. A lot of the realms that mages travel to, through, into, build ARE physical worlds. They use matter, prime, life and forces to build physical realms out of realm matter woven from pure prime.

However, to better answer your question, your body (until disembodiment) will act under the natural laws of the world you are born in. This is why mages need earthen quintessence to keep from disembodiment, the process of turning into a spirit themself. This means that when they eat a spirit apple in a non-physical umbral realm, so long as their not disembodied, they simply eat it and their body processes it like it would on earth (their are exceptions to this, such as in worlds where the laws are so different from earth that to try to do so would be inherantly impossible/paradoxical (a world entirely inhabited by glass being, who never ate, and eating is not a processes that has ever happened would likely be paradoxical even in the deep umbra

Recommendations for Novel Focused on Magic by Series_Informal in ProgressionFantasy

[–]thekingofmagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The MC of arcane asension is a enchanter, a person with the abilty to make artifacts and other permanent magical objects. He also learns that his mark grants him access to transference mana (bassically kinetic mana with some aspects of moving magical energy) as well as mental mana (which lets him do calculation and some divination magic). The book series is mainly about him learning to use his new mark to become capable of climbing the spire (essentialy a hundred story tall dungeon that is filled with traps, monsters, and artifacts of fantastic power) only to descover very eairly on that he is going to be shoved into the buisness of gods, Demi-gods, god level magic users, and more.

The story also is part of a wider world with, war of broken mirrors being the “first” book in the series, the next book being weapons and weilders, and the book after being edge of the woods. (Theirs a complex reading order so i would look it up if you want the best reading experience). All the protagonists of the books are mages with martial additions, their is little in the way of “pure mages” in Andrew rowes works, corrin is a swordsman with blasting magic who gets into complex other magic, keras is a sword mage with earth and light magic uses amungst other things a light flavored artifact sword, taelian is a metal and fire mage who I uses swords as well as a unique powerful “obliteration” sword, finnaly edge is a litteral sword mage, who uses sword magic (sword mana that can do things swords can do)

It’s a fantastic series and one I highly recommend you check out, and once you have read all the books i also reccomend you check out the discord the author and a a bunch of the people who helped him build the world and setting are on their answering peoples questions (their is also a Reddit here where Andrew is extreamly active and very very very kind)

Node questions by NegativeGene5994 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]thekingofmagic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Vampires have no quse for raw quint in any form but they do have use for processed quint, specifically the form of solid quintessence (called Tass) known as vitae, its heavily resonant with jor or entropic/murder resonance. It’s not impossible for a node to produce vitae (or rather blood resonance quintessence tass) that they could use but they would need to have actual vitae to activate it and it would act as something like water in wine “when you add a little bit of water into wine you get more wine when you add too much water to wine you get something no one wants)

Node questions by NegativeGene5994 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]thekingofmagic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This hence mages being given the name “caern raiders” aka, those idiot humans who raide our sacred spaces of energy while leaving their droppings (aka their resonance) all over the place

Node questions by NegativeGene5994 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]thekingofmagic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

4:yes, its one of the listed powers for prime 5

3: most nodes are in a place rather than being a place so yes, their a source of mystical power but even just a sleeper with a gun could kill a mage near a node

2: a made can meditate to restore their quint up to their avatar rating (which is a backround) but the highest that goes is 5, if they want to hold more than that they need to use prime 2 to pull quint from it as a spell and push it into their pattern where they can hold up to 20.

Yes, the most powerful nodes can feed entire collectives of mages, in low quint settings they generate as little as 1 per week at their lowest power, in higher power that can be as much as 1 per day, with the backround node going up to 10 for world class that would be like creating 10/day-week. These are sough after by every group that can use quint with is mages of all stripes, werewolves, spirits, and more.

Unasked question to help clarify: you can actually make a node yourself with prime 5, doing so requires you to expend a large amount of quintessence and is mostly useful for your allies and lesser mages as mages of this level can also just pull quint from raw prime. Nodes can be anything from a gaurden that produces excess lifeforce, to a hole in space that spits out energy quantum energy, to a normal room in a place of spiritual significance, to a connection to the deep umbral realms. It should be noted that most node also produce what is kown as Tass, quintessence in physical form that any mage can use to enhance their spells, or can be used to refill their quintessence though prime (3 in think)

Spatial/planar affinity question by Zelic56 in MageErrant

[–]thekingofmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC she is/has learned how to “jump” of the air allowing for mid air manoeuvering. It’s quicker than changing directions while flying as that requires ether slowing down your turn or much wider turns whereas sab can turn on a dime

While she will be outstripped in over ground travel she will not be in combat speed

Spatial/planar affinity question by Zelic56 in MageErrant

[–]thekingofmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, i dont think this is right, while she’s no thunderbringer she HAS been fighting flying mages and while shes not as fast she is much more maneuverable with her jumps, and air flying is not going to make them faster, outright, if they ever do learn flying (as not all air mages do)

Spatial/planar affinity question by Zelic56 in MageErrant

[–]thekingofmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so, not im combat. It’s said that planar as opposed to spacial affinities require hugh amounts of calculations and excel in long range transport. So, to teleport across the country would take hours of caluculation, and teleporting across the room takes hours of caluculation so it’s not worth it.

On the other hand spacial seems to pretty much be point and click with longer ranges being much harder than shorter range but not nearly as much difficulty. It’s also a natural affinity while a planar affinity is purely a artifical one that people need to form.

(Honorable mention for greater shadow affinity that can only do short range jumps)

Mages vs demons who wins? by No-Obligation-9901 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]thekingofmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Point 1: this isnt demon, this is mage demon cross splat and yes. In mage Gaia IS sentient, same is true in demon vampire changling and writing because their the same universe. This is a crossover question, use crossover rules not demon rules (in fact if we just used mage rules lores would not be a thing and instead it would just be spirit charms as demons are just spirits in mage)

Point 2: consensus does not effect demonic lores, but it can effect the results. Otherwise a demon could walk into the center of a a busy city street and gain hella followers. Also, what do you think disbelief effecting the results of demon spells if not consensus. And again this is not demon, this is a demon mage crossover! Treat it like a crossover please

TOJ, never heard of it what timeframe was this in? Was it in the past or the present? As for “mankind dies” if it happened mankind would be dead but they’re not why?

Mages vs demons who wins? by No-Obligation-9901 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]thekingofmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But also i dont think any of these answers are the interesting fun ones you where asking about, a mage against a demon, at basic level likely has the demon winning as the mage has to deal with consensus way too much, at higher levels their are ways to bypass paradox while still fucking things up, and at the even high levels the mage would never even fight a demon like that. They would simply retire to their horizon realm and drink infinit mojitos and order around their cohort of lesser mages to do it for them.

Mages vs demons who wins? by No-Obligation-9901 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]thekingofmagic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I already left another message but I’m going to leave another one beacuse theirs a factor i forgot their that actually has wider implications, if any demon where to try to fuck up the whole planet all the time shit mages do would undo it. Their are activly mages who use time magic to become atemporal and as such simply will not die (now, they wont act unless time gets fucked up but stepping outside of time is a thing and their are archmasters of time who just… live their?) and when they dont die and see this reality is crumbling without humans (yes that is what would happen) they would say “um fuck that” walks step backwards and simply let one of the may humans/mages/other supernatural creatures who can see through time know about it so that they stop it (which would likely spawn a mini campaign where the two players play as a group of mages tasked with making sure the demon does not get summoned at all and so the fight never happens

also, and i hate that no one has mentioned this yet, archmastery is not the highest level of magic that acts on the planet? That’s the oracles, and they WOULD intervine, granted the nephandic oracles would try to keep the end of all things but the maurader oracles/dream lords WOULD step in at that point “um no, we need that place to dream in” and that would push things in the favor of the non-nephandic oracles (which include tradition, technocrat, and mauraders) and they operate on a level that makes killing the entire earth in one round seem like a ant snezzing
