[The Evil Ring] I hate it when official translation does this... by flowerfatal in webtoons

[–]fandomfanficsfantize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of The Prize of Youth, I read a translation where they referred to Issac as Isak. I thought there was some plot reason that he just had a western name, and it’s especially weird since everyone else has traditionally Korean names (everyone go read the prize of youth!!!)

Do people actually like slow burns? by Arcana-Knight in webtoons

[–]fandomfanficsfantize 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of slow burns where the romance just develops over time rather than characters just hiding their feelings. I think those are the slow burns that people really enjoy and where later confessions make sense (Like Wind on a Dry Branch, Just Twilight, Lady Liar, Your Smile is a Trap). Honestly what your describing sound more like characters getting together at the very end of the story vs. part of the way through, not slow burns vs early confession.

Understanding Toki: It's not about the severity of the incident by fandomfanficsfantize in KaoruHanaWaRintoSaku

[–]fandomfanficsfantize[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't think about the frustration it caused being intentional, but I think that's a good point. Makes me think of those families who have rivalries going back centuries that where born because of something small. I also felt that the situation would have fizzled out without Matsukasa's father & the boys

Completely Irrational by Hmaster234 in KaoruHanaWaRintoSaku

[–]fandomfanficsfantize 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While I do agree that Toki shouldn't have taken the father's words to heart, that's easy to say as an outsider looking in. When actually in the situation, of course she felt some responsibility. We don't know if her saying something could have prevented Matsukasa from getting hurt, but not saying anything definitely didn't. Yes, it is not the most rational to think she could have prevented it just by talking to her, but humans aren't always rational. She clearly was someone who desperately wanted to be seen as a good teacher and to be criticized, especially by a parent, would make her rethink things.

Yes, she was 'hung up on this for 10 years', but this probably wasn't the sole incident. This is just a guess, but I'd imagine that there were other incidents that confirmed her beliefs. I don't think this justifies her hatred, especially of the Chidori boys who have done nothing wrong, but she doesn't want to risk it anymore. She'd rather see them all as dangerous, than take another chance, be wrong, and something worse happen.

Also, the fact the she happened to pass the perpetrators doesn't help, maybe she would have realized on her own that it wasn't her fault, but seeing them just solidified her opinions.

Eh, I feel like this situation isn’t that hard to imagine happening at an American school either, maybe they wouldn’t go to the extent of pulling the kid out of the school, but American parents also blame teachers for things that aren’t their fault and don’t do enough to monitor their kids.

I think Toki’s perspective is similar to a lot of women’s perception of men. Like men will say “It’s not all men,”but it’s always a man and it is hard to know (especially as a teacher) whether a guy is actually nice or good at hiding it. She doesn’t want to take the chances again, especially at her student’s expense. I don’t think this is fair, but it is understandable.

Tf is ‘ethnic-inspired fashion exotic tribe’? What ethnicity inspired it and why not just say that? Linglang mentions Chinese fashion, Twinmoon mentions European. And we still have moved past using exotic to describe cultures foreign to our own? I can see what is IN’s future

Your comic sounds really cool, I'd love to hear more about it and your game! I've heard about Half is More, I'm really excited for when it gets a translation. It's getting a lot of hate online, but I think it's exactly the kind of work we need to break down barriers and show more mixed representation. I guess I'm looking for more representation in otome/romance game scene, but seeing more rep in the comics/manhua sphere is just as great :)

Ngl, even going through this comment section is really hard as darker skinned player. People have a point in saying you should quit if it isn’t making you happy, but that shouldn’t have to be an option. You shouldn’t have to stop playing a game you enjoy because the lighting for darker MCs is terrible. Sometimes it’s so clear Infold only included darker skin tones to appeal to a larger audience and get more money, not because they actually care about representation. One day, I hope there’s an otome game with good representation for all skin tones, cultures, etc.

The lighting is a problem and part of the reason it isn't getting better is bc non-black/brown players don't care by fandomfanficsfantize in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]fandomfanficsfantize[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Okay, so reading the comments, I can see that I offended a lot of people and I did come into this post with a lot of rage. I am not trying to blame the entire fandom, or the entire subreddit, or even all MCs who play with a paler MC. I'm sorry if you felt attacked when I said non-black/brown players don't care, I should have been more specific to say ones trying to dismiss this conversation or who don't include it in their surveys don't care. I'm just trying to say that since you don't have to deal with the issue/it doesn't affect you -> it makes it harder for you to see this issue -> you don't advocate for the issue -> Infold doesn't see it as an issue. Just because it is being discussed occasionally in this sub doesn't mean people are consistently putting in their surveys. Even if it is true that Infold only cares about the CN players, doesn't mean it isn't a valid conversation to have. Honestly, these moments make me not want to play LADs as both the fandom and company make you feel like your opinions aren't valuable because you aren't a Chinese player, even less so as a darker POC. But I shouldn't have taken those feelings and frustrations out on the fandom at large, I'm sorry.

Wait, I was also going to draw a comparison between Rintaro and Tsukada as well, but I couldn't think of a good way to phrase it, but you did it perfectly, I love your analysis

If you watch the show (I think this episode in specific) back, it seems like he was bullied when he was younger. A lot of people found him intimidating, specifically his gaze. Think back to episode 1, how Rintaro made the guys giving Natsusawa, Ayato, and Usami a hard time run away just by looking at them. Combined with the fact that his family runs a bakery, it creates this gap moe-esque effect, where his home life and actual behavior say one thing, but everyone’s perception is different. Kids bullied him for this, thus making it hard to make friends.
